  1. I've got just past the first "call 999" bit of Maxwell Murder. I'm not quite up to speed and obviously dreading the solo , especially since I've not been learning long and I'm playing with fingers instead of a pick but I'm enjoying trying it (so far).
  2. I remember seeing an interview with CJ Ramone and he said that when he joined The Ramones he had to sit with his arm in ice as it swelled up every night from playing. Johnny told him that DeeDee played with the bass slung low so that his wrist did all the work instead of his arm. He said it took some work till change his playing style but made it much easier. Last night I did a play along with Blitzkrieg Bop then straight into R.A.M.O.N.E.S. It'd be fun trying to keep that up for 2 hours+. Good luck with it. Great genre of music.
  3. Brilliant.. thank you. I've never seen that site before. I'll be having a big tour through it.
  4. I'm just learning R.A.M.O.N.E.S by Motorhead/ Ramones/ Wednesday 13. Nothing for you guys on here but I'm just beginning to actually have a go at songs. One id love to learn is Blood Makes Noise by Suzanne Vega but I can't find tabs for it anywhere and I'm nowhere near good enough to do it by ear.
  5. Wife just told me she's booked tickets for us to go see Blitzkid. One of my favourite bands and really friendly blokes, happy to hang out with you after the gig. Thing is, the gig is in "The Knitting Factory" in Brooklyn NY, we live in Stoke, UK.
  6. I'm going to see "The Macc Lads" in Buckley next Friday. I've been going to see them since 1987. Great night. Laughs, funny songs, mates around me and it all washes off when you get back home.
  7. Cheers. I'm gonna have a word with my bass teacher on Thursday, see if he knows someone. Tbh it's not too bad as the volume is set and in the house I can't crank it up to much do it'll probably sit where it is.
  8. I've just hit an old Watson XB50 amp. It sounds sho much better than my tiny 10w practice amp but when I touch any of the controls it crackles quite loudly. Is this normal or should I get it looked at? It only cost me 40 quid so i don't mind a few quid spend on getting it sorted. It's not for giving or anything, just practicing/ learning in the house. Cheers folks.
  9. I've already started learning songs I wouldn't listen to.... Love Cats etc... I don't want to only be able to play punk stuff/ faster basic stuff. I'm really enjoying learning so far, I just wish I had more time. I manage around half an hour practice every night, sometimes a bit longer and get a couple of hours both days over the weekend.
  10. Yeah, it went well. I was a bit off with my timing a couple of times in the faster ones and got a bit lost with Pumpkin Patch Murders but he seemed happy enough. I'm off work next week (first days off this year) so I'll be able to perfect them hopefully and get stuck into something else.
  11. Haha, I need a cheat sheet up my arm. Cheers, I will do. Go have a listen on YouTube... I'm sure you'll love them 😅😅😅
  12. Well I'm still very much a beginner but last week after my lesson my instructor/teacher asked me to learn 3 songs ready for this week. The music I'm into it was never going to be anything technical but the 3i decided on (before actually beginning to learn them) were... "Bullet" by The Misfits "Kryptonite" by 3 Doors Down and "Pumpkin Patch Murders" by Blitzkid. Lesson is tonight so I'll see how good I've done later.
  13. I saw them live a couple of times. The bass was amazing. Ian is a fantastic frontman. I need to listen to them again now.
  14. I find the old cartoon themes are great for meeting about. I'm still very new and basic at bass but I learned Pink Panther, Inspector Gadget and Roobarb and Custard. Great fun.
  15. I've just started cooking tea ready for when Wife gets in and stuck the "Scream Dracula Scream" cd on by Rocket From The Crypt.
  16. Much better on my old peepers. Many thanks.
  17. Thank you. I thought it was, it was the only bit that measured 34"when I measured.
  18. Sorry to ask a stupid question but when a description says for example Scale Length 34" where am I measuring to see what I'm using now?
  19. I'm in Stoke so thinking of heading to Manchester next weekend. There's gotta be some decent guitar shops (and possibly whisky shops) there.
  20. I'm looking at getting my first bass. So far I've been using a mates Tanglewood Warrior II and I absolutely love it. I've been messing about on it for a about 6 months or so but 4 weeks ago had my first lesson. Had one every week and decided it's time I got my own instrument. I want a decent one and mate doesn't want to sell the Warrior so I'm looking around online. The Ibanez has caught my eye so I'm wondering what the thoughts on it are on here. I can't find a warrior 11 for sale otherwise I'd probably go for that. Would the sr300e be a good first bass that will last and still be good enough when (if) I improve my playing? Is there anything else to look at in shops for around the £300 area? Thanks in advance. Just a random overview of the model. I don't really care what shop it's from but I want to actually need about with one before I buy.... https://www.gear4music.com/Guitar-and-Bass/Ibanez-SR300E-Sky-Veil-Matte/3N7R
  21. I'm listening to loads of these just lately... https://youtu.be/e0OfpKF0IHM
  22. Yes, of definitely want someone to go with me.
  23. I'm not on Facebook but yes, it's an option I had considered. I was nervous however if the potential of risk.
  24. They sell seem a little out of my price range tbh ... I'll be keeping my eyes open though. What are Thunderbirds like to play?
  25. Ooh, I forgot to update this on Thursday. I had an hour lesson and we started on timing. Apparently I have very good timing so soon after we moved on to learning the minor pentatonic scale. Stretching from 2-5 was a bit harder than I expected but I've been practicing for about an hour a day plus every now and again just grabbing the bass and running through everything we've done so far. The teacher seems happy with progress so far and now I actually have something solid to practice instead of just noodling or watching tabs on YouTube I think I'm actually improving and so enjoying it more. Now I just need a bass of my own... I'm loving the one I'm using (it's a mates that he likes to lend out to people to get them started, no chance of him selling it)... It's a Tanglewood Warrior II. I'm hoping for a bit of advise on what to buy tbh...I want full scale, not TOO heavy with a budget of around £200. Is this a realistic budget to get something decent?
