1. I bought a Squier Vintage Modified Jaguar (P/J), changed the PUPs, bridge and tuners, and I now have a bass that plays and sounds like a £750 bass but which in total cost me under £450. To my mind it also has the best of both Precision and Jazz basses tone-wise but on a very lightweight and small-bodied bass. In short, it's a bass that suits me perfectly but which I'd not be able to buy off the peg. I'd say that if you have an instrument that is half decent to start with - which is VERY important - and you know both what you want from a bass and what you're doing in terms of equipment selection, modding a cheap bass can be a very economic route to getting a decent bespoke instrument. Good luck, and enjoy it!
2. Hiya mate, does it need an external transformer/power supply? If not, I'll take it. Cheers C

4. Sorry, but how is this still here????????? I've seen MIJ Jazzes go for more than this recently? I'm no great fan of Jazzes for sure, but these are bloody good basses, and this is an extremely good looking example of one as well. The price is ridiculously low; someone should jump on it before the seller changes his mind
5. Police book here for £10 http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=64339&hl=
6. Nice work Bilbo. You're right, DB is just so right for that type of track.
7. Ben popped over to collect an amp today. What a top bloke! I could have talked basses with him for hours but have a nasty work deadline today so couldn't. Anyway, nice easy transaction, and I hope next time we hook up Ben, I'm able to be a little more hospitable! Chris
8.
This chap comes up in Hythe - http://www.chrismcneilly.co.uk/

Can personally recommend Chris. He's done my upright for me in the past & it will be going back there soon for an overhaul. Does great work & is pretty reasonable but can be a bit slow at times. Nice guy too!!
Took my old and beaten up DB to Chris and he very quickly and very effectively turned it into something much better. He was also very reasonable on price (I'll be taking my other DB to see him soon also). Thanks for the recommendation guys Chris
9. Somewhat amazingly, I have another one of these for sale I started playing DB last summer and thought back to how close my old EKO B4 had sounded to a DB, so picked another up for £150 on eBay earlier this year. I've used it for acoustic rehearsals and for working out DB parts on the sofa without getting the big guy downstairs! Having just picked up two fretlesses in a trade however, I think keeping this is a bit excessive, so once again, there's a B4 for sale for £100 collected This one's apparently from 1984; it's in near perfect condition and has the original tapewound strings. 10. CTS pots, PIO cap, nice retro black knobs etc (can be seen in link in first post here http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=128925&hl=) C
11. What is says above Slots cut pretty much dead centre of each saddle. Pics can be seen in link in first post here http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=128925&hl=. Not a direct replacement for Fenders, and not for the feint-hearted
12.
If I wasn't getting the Bass Terror I probably would have had it.
You probably still will one day mate, best wait until I've spent a few quid on it though!
13. I'm going to keep this I think and get on with some modifications as planned. I'll post pics of two pimped Jags - one very contemporary, one very retro - in a couple of weeks Then I'll probably sell them both
14. Wizard PUPs and Jazz body/pickguard gone to good homes, anyone fancy a Badass 1 or loaded jazz control plate?
15.
... that both plays, sounds, and records beautifully ...
I appear to have Spanish Inquisitioned again! "NOBODY expects the Spanish Inquisition! Our chief weapon is surprise...surprise and fear...fear and surprise.... Our two weapons are fear and surprise...and ruthless efficiency.... Our *three* weapons are fear, surprise, and ruthless efficiency...and an almost fanatical devotion to the Pope.... Our *four*...no... *Amongst* our weapons.... Amongst our weaponry...are such elements as fear, surprise.... I'll come in again."
16. A truly lovely bass. If you want a special fretless, that both plays, sounds, and records beautifully, look no further. Clarky, like many before him, will miss it when it's gone! C
17. I bought this for the neck and PUPs, the neck is stunning and probably worth the money on its own, stunning maple/ebony combination. Anyway, if anyone's interested in the body - and possibly the PUPs as I seem to have been a little enthusiastic with my ebaying of late - give me a shout? C
18.
Make a stereo cable. It'll still work. Interestingly I've never done it myself despite having owned 12 Rics over 30 years!
Yep, in fact, I might have one here Mr Valdemar...... Like 4000, I've never used mine either. C
