  1. Yes he did, EVRI's prime directive is f*** THE f***ING CUSTOMER AT EVRI f***ING OPPORTUNITY (it's how they got their name in the rebranding of what was at the time the World's worst ever courier......)
  2. EVRI's problem isn't it's individual members of staff, it's systemic DGAF attitude endemic at every level of the culture, from leadership to IT to customer service to drivers. Nice that the guy helped in this case, but he shouldn't have to, if anyone in that f***ing useless business gave a f*** about ensuring their systems actually work you wouldn't have had to dick about in the first place
  3. How do you avoid bleed from the PA into the mics, is it just careful positioning?
  4. So I'm assuming Pete doesn't want this, it's available if anyone else does, or it'll stay here I suspect
  5. Even those that aren't pillocks now probably were on their way up and at the top of their curve....
  6. ....but I'd also welcome alternative solutions, although in-ear isn't an option for us 👍
  7. Show me a band in which the singer isn't a pillock, and I'll show you an unsuccessful band
  8. Decent point, but IMO we do Jack, we gigged without monitors last time out and both drummer and keyboard player struggled to hear the vocals and guitar (although to be clear, although they were probably the only two people in the venue if not the entire postcode who couldn't hear the guitar..... . If the set were more straight forward I think we'd get away with it, but we're doing Odelay by Beck in which a lot of changes in rhythm that also involve keyboard shenanigans and samples are cued by specific lyrics, and even in the rehearsal room - in which the sound is way easier to work with than the venue in question - the drummer is struggling to hear the vocals well.
  9. Jamiroquai had a magical swagger about them at that time, both musically and visually. Zender was a massive part of it 👍
  10. That's a nice story, we were thinking along the same lines 'We've got two PAs, two's gotta be better than one, but how do we do it'
  11. So funny, Adam and the Ants very well observed, especially the stick work and the B&W aisle walk on the security camera, but I think it was - I assume - Sigue Sigue Sputnik walking around the corner with a shopping trolley that took the biscuit.....
  12. Thanks Bill, if it’s good enough for you it’s certainly good enough for us 👍
  13. Probably a non starter but wondering if a) there are any potential issues and b) if anyone's tried it I have a relatively small and lightweight Maui column PA that while pretty loud and decent is probably not quite big enough for the band/venue in question. The singer has a much larger old school Peavey PA that we're probably going to use instead. However neither system currently has any stage monitors and money's a little tight at present. Would it be madness to use the smaller PA facing the band as on-stage monitors, albeit with bass cut? There are only three mics on stage - vox, backing vox, and kick - all facing the back of the stage (no need for more on drums as it's a small venue and the drummer's solid). Thanks in advance 👍
  14. Hi @pete.young, I rehearsed it last night, it could use some fettling to get it closer to 100%, but it was rather nice, the P-PUP especially was really cutting through in the way I love maple neck Precisions can (J-PUP needs to be raised I imagine). It's not light at around 5kgs but it wasn't noticeably heavy to play for a 3-hour rehearsal. The neck, being lightly oiled, was actually rather nice to play and felt not too dissimilar to my Warmoth oiled maple neck that came in at a far higher price! Overall I think at £450 for the bass it's good value and is a bass that not only sounds good but really stands out as slightly different form the norm, which I always quite like. Could you buy a better fretless bass for £450? Quite possibly yes, especially if you were looking through Sire's catalogue! Anyway, no pressure at all because I'll be really happy to keep it if it doesn't sell, it's probably the instrument I'll take to gigs as back-up.
  15. ...which I think I sold because someone on Basschat told me it wasn't a very good cab 🤣
  16. Strings? Luxury, when I were a lad.......
  17. ....and while we're at it, given the thread title, it took me quite a long time to find a cab that sounded as good to my ear as my 1990's Peavey 15
  18. 22/05/2007 here And likewise the most expensive decision I've ever made (and in part your fault Nik) I think I've spent less on houses
  19. Do it @Dood, there's something I always liked Larry Hartke's approach to business, despite the fact I never played any of his gear
  20. When I first joined BassWorld about 20 years back (way before it became Basschat), Hartke were everywhere, but they seem to have fallen by the wayside hugely, one of the few amplification brands I've never used
  21. Always been my experience, there's nothing wrong with modern lightweight gear at all, but likewise there's nothing wrong with old heavy gear, they just have different qualities 👍
  22. Careful, someone will be along in a minute to tell you that on the basis of the technical specifications of newer and lighter cabs you're wrong, an old 18" speaker can NEVER sound good 😃
  23. On request some shots of the black neck, even nicer in the flesh 👍
