1.
I've been thinking of trying these as I like a deep smooth tone without too much treble. They say they are for 32" scale, so they may be too long for a 30" scale bass. Please report back on how you find them.
Will post results of 32" flatwound strings on 30" scale bass type experiment soon
 2. Thomastik JF324 String Set, Short Scale, Nickel flatwound Roundcore, Gauges 043-056-070-106. Just ordered these from Thomann for my EB 0
 3.
PM'd
PM'd back
 4.
If they're anything like the BMFL series, then yes they should be reversible. Might be worth checking the dimensions of your current tuners match though. You can get a technical drawing here: http://bass-machine-heads.com:80/upload/CY...ik_BMSeries.pdf
Those technical drawings have been really useful - thanks! They match the machine heads on the EB0 (except they will work much better). Happy bunny.
 5.
think i have a set of these somewhere, bought them for my VMJ but they're not long enough to fit without drilling new holes... i'll have a look and let you know ----edit---- found 'em, pictures here
Are they reversible? Your VMJ would have 4 in a row whereas the EBs are 2x2. If they are suitable for a 2x2 machine head arrangement how much are you asking?
 6. Can anyone suggest some decent replacement machine heads compatable with the Epiphone EB0. The stock ones are a bit rubbish (not suprising as the whole bass cost £130 new). I would like to put Gibson ones on but can't find them on the net.
 7. There is a MAG 810 on ebay. Mine is an ABM - it has had plenty of use and is a bit battered (though works perfectly well). I might just keep it and build my Celestion loaded cabs anyway. It's great for festivals (where the stages have ramps!)
 8. I usually dial in a bit of sub from my Ashdown head. Works reaaly well with the warm tones of Celestion green lables. Yum yum bass.
 9.
Everyone else seems to have one of these but me! Not sold much here, but bought some. Let people know how I got on here
Had what I wanted and delivered with loveliness Thanks
 10. Now I feel much better - thanks I have indeed decided to sell the 810 and make some smaller cabs (of the correct volume, ports etc) which will house 1x12 and 1x15 8 ohm 300w green label Celestions (already have one and love the tone). My amp will drive 2 sets of 4ohms -
 11.
You don't know anything about the speakers or how to put them together so you'll probably blow up your amp when you plug in the new cabs!!! You currently have a cab that's worth something. Sell it. Split it up and you'll have a lot of worthless junk. IMO.
I wouldn't go to all the trouble of building anything without making sure the figures added, up so no blowing up of amps here!
 12.
In another thread I did a bunch of maths and ended up pretty sure the speakers in my ABM 8x10 are 8ohm. Pretty sure its the same if it has Bluelines in. If it hasn't got blueliness in, totally give it to me and I will send you a lot of ebay links for 2x10s. In fact, if you want to whip out all the speakers, I'd be interested in the empty cab, pending some measuring and maths to make a 2x15 that matches my 8x10.
Got a link to that thread?
 13. Weight, space, transport.... I am considering building some smaller cabs and use the speakers from the 810. I reckon four 2x10s would do it. Can anyone help me out. I don't know what the speakers are rated at or what would be the best configuration. Or I could sell it and build from scratch. I really like the Celestion green series speakers (already have one) so could get some more of those . Thanks, Jamie
 14.
I am looking forward to seeing this...

 15.
Bad news I'm afraid, with the Seymour Duncan the devaluing is immense. I'll give you £20 for the bass and take the original pup off your hands for a fiver. Can't be fairer than that. In seriousness. I'd say over 2K, definately, and pics would be nice.
Great! £25 all in should keep the insurance costs down. (I'll post up some pics sooooon..)
 16. I bought my Ric for £275 in 1984. I will NEVER sell it but need some idea of how much I should insure it for as I have no idea. Its pretty much 100% original apart from the Seymour Duncan bridge p/up - though I still have the original. Thanks.
 17. Ashdown VU gets the thumbs up from me. It works just fine and is an excellent visual marker for input gain. Works with the mute button on, so if anything goes wrong on stage, like you need to change bass or whatever, you can check input gain is ok without making a sound.
 18.
No scale drawings I'm afraid but there's some good info available from guys called Fly guitars in the States - just Google it - the pictures have been useful for my project. Try not to get too bogged down with scale detail because the more you study the different styles of the EB3 range the more you will realise Gibson themselves were pretty approximate with things like scratchplate shapes, pickup positions and control spacings. If I can be of use in any way concerning the sort of advice that comes from my 'trial and error' experience I would be glad to help (maybe by P M if we think we might bore the backside off forum members)
I found that site too. It's where I found info on Mike Watt's basses. Will PM if the need arises, cheers.
 19.
55 litres will work, but I'd prefer to tune the box to 45 Hz rather than 60Hz to improve power handling. Use 2 x 70mm ports, each 125mm long. Or to tune to 60Hz use 35mm long ports.
I was going to ask about ports. Do I just cut some holes out and stick in a couple of 70mm x 125mm tubes? Or is there more to it?
 20.
I didn't realise you were 'router experienced' - in that case go right ahead and maybe publish the progress on here. I'm in the process of converting a 'dog' of a 1965 EBO to EB3 specs - the scratchplate and backplate are easily made if you have a scroll saw. Good luck!
Interesting - I dont suppose you have any scale drawings I could use as patterns for cutting / routing / positioning of controls etc? I'm an art teacher and also teach a bit of DT so fortunately have access to some decent gear. We have scroll saws. A tip when cutting plastics with a scroll saw - use masking tape over the join, this dissipates the heat and prevents the hot plastic "welding" itself back together again. Then again, I could use the lazer cutter! Cheers
 21. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l5zFsy9VIdM I prefer this track - really early on
 22. True - but I have been using power tools for donkeys years including routers - I know what I'm doing with regard to health and safety. My experience maybe less refined than is required thats all.
 23. I really like home set up ingenuity! Its good to experiment with different ways of doing things. That's where fresh ideas and sounds can be generated. I have an 8 track desk with allsorts of stuff patched in (stylophone! and an oscillator thing with knobs on - very Silver Apples).
 24. I now have the donor Epiphone EBO for my Mike Watt-a-like EB3 project. I've sourced most of the parts now, but will need to get the router out (or get someone else to do it). I need to: route the pick up cavity for the new pick up(s) enlarge the control cavity and drill holes for the new control spindles and switches get someone to make a control cavity cover and EB3 pick guard If I do it myself how should I go about it. If I get someone else to do it - who? Ta.
 25.
No hi-fi nut would ever build a loudspeaker with 2 internal dimensions the same. So no cubes. Try (external) width the same as a rack-case, with internals at 52cm high x 24cm deep. That will give a slight excess over 55litres and allow for bracing etc. Good luck. Balcro
Very useful thanks
