  1. Hi All.

This is for sale up the road from me and hopefully going to have a look at it today.  The only info they give is they think it was made in 1988.    Apparently it was owned by the sellers dad who worked for Status at the time and it's virtually unplayed.

Anyone know anything about them?  Any idea on value?

    Thanks!  Matt

Well, now I'm about 50/50 relieved that it was a single button fix and bloody annoyed at myself for not spotting it last night!

    Thanks!

Ha.  Had exactly the same thing happen when I took mine out on a gig the first time - confused the hell out of me for about half hour!

  3. Downsizing the pedalboard plus clearing out some I hoarded over lock, so have a few for sale!!  This one hurts a bit though - I always wanted one of these, but none of my current projects need it so it's been nudged off the board and I could really use the cash due to gassing for a fender road worn jazz!

Pretty much as new, boxed and with PSU.

Handbuilt in the UK, retail on these is £299 at the moment - so absolute bargain for someone.  Price includes UK postage.

Tube drive and wah can be engaged separately or together and in either order, so loads of options.

    Any questions let me know.

EBS Wah and Volume pedal, boxed and in excellent condition.  Was velcro'd to the board but that has been removed.  I could only find one of the original rubber feet, but is included.

    The Blurb:

The EBS WahOne is a truly versatile wah-wah pedal designed specifically to enhance your bass groove. This unique pedal is based on the classic wah-wah concept but with extended features. With an easy dial-in design the choice is yours - use it as a wah-wah filter or volume pedal.

Also the WahOne offers several cool options like the built-in tube simulator circuit, reversed action of the footboard let you choose between 'whooa' or 'aoowh' type of effect, Low-pass filter, and Hi-Q setting that narrows the midrange span that the effect work within. All these features are activated by switches on the front panel. There's also a Range control that decides wherein the frequency range the pedal will create the effect.

These seem incredibly cheap?! £287 for a a RM-800 EVO II?!

I assume that included delivery and any tax/import duty?

    A

Seems to fluctuate a bit, must be a currency thing - I paid £290 last week! Arrived on Monday - no extra charges. Only thing is that it comes with an EU kettle lead - but they included a free adapter!!

My combo turned up this morning, didn’t really know what to expect. It is a Gen 1 Evolution. I think I’m right in saying that there isn’t a 1x12 Evo II. It has the mirror faceplate and It doesn’t have a control for the tweeter.

Unfortunately, I’m going to send it right back - if that is actually feesable with MP.
The tone is fantastic, the build quality is impressive and it’s a very neat box.
But, I think the volume pot may have an issue.
At first I couldn’t believe how loud it was at about 8 o’clock on the dial. But then found ‘Click’ 1 on the volume dial is too quiet for home use and click 2 is almost too loud. There’s no middle ground. From click 2 onwards the volume barely, and I mean barely, changes. So, it is too quiet OR too loud for home use but too quiet to gig.

The comp and input gain don’t seem to change this effect too much at all, so I’m not convinced that all is well.

I’ve initially asked MP if I can swap it for the 2x10 combo as the tone and build are great, but I’d a little more at max volume than this may offer. Which, was always likely but something I wanted to test.

The low B sounds great, it’s much cleaner and punchier than I was expecting. The plastic window to the VU meter is poorly cut and fitted on this one but otherwise it’s a really cool combo.

Dunno how much it’s going to cost to get it back to Germany, but hopefully we can sort something as despite the above, there’s definitely something cool in there.
Shouldn’t have waited this long to try Ashdown! The core tone is spot on, I didn’t even need to switch the EQ in.

Have you considered going direct to Ashdown to get it checked out before returning it?    They are really good with that sort of thing!

No I know. Makes it quite difficult to price. Pain in the donkey. But then it’s hardly massive and taking up loads of room…

Yep, I looked at second hand before I ordered mine - but most advertised weren't much less than the MP prices but without warranty, box, postage etc so it didn't make sense.

Worth keeping as the perfect back-up amp surely?  I never gig without having a spare with me.

I use the High and Low Cut block, cutting all lows below 50hz and all highs above 7khz.  Just gets rid of the unnecessary rumble/sparkle.  I find with the Low Cut especially that speakers don't have to work as hard, and therefore it seems like my amp has more power!

Cheers, will give that a go!

I use my Helix in front of my amps all the time and just use it as an effects box really. Each one of my patches include a High and Low Cut EQ block, a compressor block and a Zeroamp block with varying degrees of intensity depending on the gig. Tone for days!

Sorry to hijack the thread, but which EQ do you use, and do you mind sharing your settings?  Have been considering doing something similar on my HX Effects patches, but haven't got round to trying the EQ's out yet.  Would give me a starting point at least.  Cheers!

Not sure what sense it made me calling the 210 'dark'.  More a sax term I think.  What I meant was the PJ are I think uncoloured and reflect your bass and how you play it, the BF 10s (110 and 210) are advertsied as coloured - kind of warmer, and 'smokier'.  I would and did choose the BF 210 for my blues band, where the bass is more a melodic drum. I also used the PJ for that with suitable EQ adjustment, but the PJ's more inclined towards using the bass as a melodic instrument.  Christ I type some pompous b*llocks at times, lol.

Ha 😀. Made sense to me.  I use a Big Twin II for big gigs which is less supposed tonally coloured (more FRFR) than the 10 inch BF models.  Guess the PJB's would have similar characteristics in that regard, which is a good thing in my book!

Top choices both.  My PJ cabs (cab 27 and 47) were the mutts, as was my BF210.  Wish I hadn't sold the 210... Not sure if they're not fairly different though. The PJs are very clean, whereas the BF is quite 'dark'. YMMV, just MHO.

That's interesting - thanks - makes sense of a few other things I've read.  Good to have some input from someone who has used both!

I think the footprint of the BT is a red herring. It's barely bigger than any other 12" cab, only maybe 3'' wider than a 210 with a shelf port sat on its end.

You really just want something semi disposable to use on this gig.

There is a GK212 500w combo for 540 quid in the classifieds.

Yep certainly to an extent, although even a few inches width and a few kg's lighter makes all the difference to how easy it is to get through narrow doorways etc, so would like smaller if possible, but that might be the compromise.

There's a nice Hartke HD500w combo for £365 on eBay, or a small stack with 2 X 112 and a 500w head for £550 which would also do the job.

You and @Merton may have convinced me to relook at Barefaced though, but maybe only one rather than a stack.  If I could find a single BF 210S second hand and pair it with a second hand RM500/800, then whilst it would be slightly over budget it would absolutely fit the bill in every other department.

    Thanks guys!
