1. they had been mentioned before as they had appeared on the Sam Ash website before the official launch... now they are officially available... some lucky bods in USA will have been getting them delivered today... I have now got a horrible GAS attack... but don't know which to spring for, the 50's P or 60's P... I had been thinking about getting a real Fender 51 RI, but hated the colour choice... my problem is unloading my excess basses... I have seven... will be down to six tomorrow... (the Peavey is going) but I still have three cheapo ones to get rid of... I'd be lucky if I got £20 each in cash converters as I've seen Encore P-Basses in there for only £50...
 2.
Hi, Could anybody please advise where I can get hold of just the end pins for Schaller type design straplocks? Only need a few straps for amount of basses I have, & would like to avoid forking out for the whole assembly if necessary. Thanks
http://www.allparts.uk.com/schaller-strap-....html?p=product
 3. the '78 white P Bass I sold back in 85 when we needed the money to kit the nursery out and buy baby clothes for my daughter... I sold my 400-4 motorbike as well to buy a car... I effectively gave up playing bass back then... family got in the way and I never had spare dosh to buy a bass with...

extra tasty... there's an oly white 60's jazz with tort pickuard in that range as well although for some stupid reason they're calling it a Precision bass...????? 7.
This is very probably a stupid question but why have the thumbrest below the stings like that ? (presuming that is a thumbrest that is )
because that's where Leo originally thought it should go... you used the rest as an anchor for your fingers to pull with while plucking downwards with your thumb. In that position, it's not a thumb rest but a "tug-bar".
 8.
Another thing, I've organised my plan of action. I'm going up to Denmark Street on June 15th to try each one out. Then I'll order my preferred one from GAK. The parents know there's a GAK shop (if a little far away) to go back to if there's any problem which none of you helpful people couldn't help me out on... Hmm...
why don't you give the shop in Denmark Street a chance to match price with GAK??? (the real GAK price ie inclusive of P&P, what you would actually be paying) You could walk out the door with it in your hands and have the confidence that it feels and plays right rather than taking your chances with internet ordering... cos nothing annoys me more than people trying things in a meatspace shop and then ordering it from a website-fronted warehouse based outfit. There are precious few high street music shops as it is...
 9.
Thank you ashgeezer, but at the moment I know that all I really need is a practice amp with headphone support. I go to boarding school and the whole boarding house will go crazy if I jack it up too loud! -H
Peavey Max 126 http://www.guitarampkeyboard.com/en/peavey...#33;!/66691 or Peavey Max 158 http://www.guitarampkeyboard.com/en/peavey...158-combo/68346 both have headphone support and also auxiliary inputs so you can silently jam along to your MP3 or CD player... well almost silently... the bass itself will make sounds... and they can be highly annoying for others in the same room... if your budget can stretch just a little further, you could try the Marshall MB-30 http://www.guitarampkeyboard.com/en/marshall-b-25-mkii/328 also has CD input and headphone out... but has 30 watts into a 10 inch speaker and onboard compressor
 10. http://www.myspace.com/tribu2e sound like quite a good tribute act as well... the demos are very good... pity you're too far away for me... I wish you luck in your quest... (and I'm probably getting too old for this gigging lark... my back & knees hurt and my fingers aren't as fast anymore...) and a lot of toons for me to learn... my memory's a bit like Homer Simpson... stuff falls out when I try and push new stuff in... 11. I've been investigating a weird crackling in my V950B... I took the cover off the controls section and found the pickups had been disconnected sometime by cutting the wires and then reconnecting them by wrapping the exposed ends together and using insulation tape to hold the joins together... no solder at all... I think the pickups had been replaced sometime without taking advantage of the proper connectors on the PCB... No photos yet... I'll take them when I strip it back to do a proper fix (soldering the twists and then using insulation tape...)
 12. somehow don't think it'll go with a BIN of £600... he's hopelessly optimistic... there's a used one going here: http://www.hartnollguitars.co.uk/products.asp?id=3898 only £350 and new here: http://www.guitarampkeyboard.com/en/76326 GAK doing a special for £679 ps, is there anything "special" about the combo in the first place? it does seem a very high price for just 50 watts... oh... Guitar watts... and apparently they're right up there in ridiculous price zone when new...
 13.
You could always try the Stevie Ray Vaughan method, which is to superglue your fingers to the opposite forearm, leave to dry and then rip off – leaving a bloody forearm but an extra layer of skin and a layer of superglue on your fingertips!
knowing the state of my fingertips... I'd end up leaving the pads stuck to my forearm...
 14.
It was a moment of madness about 5 years ago but the other neck is good to play in fact i have 2 other necks to choose from, both fretted
either of them a Fender Jazz neck?
 15. Well I'd have snapped it off you if you hadn't defretted the Fender neck...
 16.
The Wizards make the Squier very responsive to control changes and picking positions and are quite powerful for passive single coils IMO. The Wizard 84s are more powerful and darker apparently.
I'm considering the Wizard 84's for mine... but not just yet... Currently, I'm very happy with the stock pickups with a set of nylon tape-wound LaBella flats...

 18. Peavey Max 126 less likely to annoy the neighbours with... only 10 watts... has headphone out and CD/MP3 in

 21.
What gets me is the unnecessary name dropping that goes on. For (hypothetical) example we don't get 'I carry my lead and strings in my gig bag', instead we get 'I carry my lead and strings in my Shuker/Alembic/Wal (delete/add as appropriate) gig bag'. Sure there are discussions where the details of the kit are required, but so often it's not yet we are given it anyway. Similarly great lists of the basses and kit you have attached to your posts is surely not required. We only need to know that your a bass player, and everything else can be revealed as and when appropriate? OK, Rant over. I'm ducking already.
my list shows that I'm not afraid of owning up to owning a Squier... and followers of my "list" may have noted the slow increase in quality basses... I tend to snap up bargains when I see them... however, I will not be getting rid of my Squier VMJ... it's just so nice to play and sounds great... and as for carrying leads and strings... I carry mine in a Tesco bag-for-life... my definition of a Bass Snob would be someone who when the chips are down and he's broken his bass and hasn't got a spare would refuse my offer of a Squier VMJ... or would insist on putting masking tape over the logo...
