I had one. I sold it because I mostly use 5 string now (a BB735). The 734 is an amazing bass.

That silverburst looks pretty cool. I love mine (which is in gold, seen everywhere, but I still love it). I had mine with rounds for a long time. Then I switched to flats. I'm not so fan of the flats, but it gives me that vintage sound that sounds really good in the studio.

Post your pedal board - Basschat style!!
javi_bassist replied to dudewheresmybass's topic in Effects
I keep on with my small pedalboard. I'm thinking about adding a MXR footswitch because to change Presets. The JHS is first in the chain. The good thing is that it has an XLR out that I can use to get just a clean sound. Then the HX stomp. The Ashdown OriginAL is in the effects loop. From the Ashdown I can get a dry signal (not affected by the preamp, but affected by the blocks of the HX) that goes to an amp (99% of the time, a backline amp). The last two blocks of the HX are the Ashdown Preamp (FX Loop) and a cab simulation (so far, the 2x15 Brute). The whole signal goes to FOH via a jack-XLR adapter. Really happy so far (and the sound guy too, in the few gigs I had at least). I am still experimenting with the cab simulations because I'm not 100% convinced. -
Wow, great deal!! I agree about the ABM pre. It's punchier than my ABM EVO II. I actually bought mine because I love the preamp of my RM EVO. I have bought a 12AT7 valve and I will try to swap the stock valve.

Which valve are you using now?

I have the Stomp as well and I use my own preamp with the loop. But I thought exactly as you: I've always been DI'ed instead of mic'ed. And it sounded good. -
Ashdown Amps - what are the differences between models?
javi_bassist replied to PeteJ's topic in Amps and Cabs
I thought about that, but I'm trying to reduce space and that's why I thought about 2 1x12. To take one for small venues (my main giggs lately) and both to bigger ones. The ABM NEO 1x12 is relatively big compared to what I was considering. I have also gigged with an old Vintage 12 (an low volume pop band I was in) and it sounded pretty good. I wonder how that would compare to the RM500 with the RM112. -
I heard they had to change the name when it first came out, but I don't remember its previous name. This review by Merton is gold. I love mine (I sold the Tone Hammer and I kept this). The EQ is really powerful. If the Valve Drive could be more subtle it would be awesome. I think it's too aggressive and you have to play with the input and get used to it. But IMO, it's one of the best preamp pedals out there. And at that price...

Ashdown Amps - what are the differences between models?
javi_bassist replied to PeteJ's topic in Amps and Cabs
First of all, that's a really sexy bass. I love jazz basses and I love that colour. Thanks for sharing your story about the cabs. I've been thinking about the RM cabs. I used to play an ABM EVO II with an ABM 410 cab for years, and I loved the tone. But weight and size were problems. So I moved to the RM EVO head and a MAG RM210 (the first RM cabs). But I'm not 100% happy with the cab. My options are 2 1x12 RM cab or 2 1x12 Hartke HD cabs. I liked the idea of having everything from Ashdown, but I'm not sure about the cab. Still thinking... -

Do you guys use any cab simulation or IR when going FOH? -
I my case, I satrted using one because in 90% of all the venues I play have a backline amp (that they preferred to use). So I create my main tone from my pedalboard to FOH (I am always DI'ed anyways). Then I got a regular gig that didn't allow me to use an amp (even my small 75W combo) so my preamp became a must in my sound. I use it instead of my amp. If I use my amp, I leave it at home. I started using the Aguilar Tone hammer. Then, I started gigging with an Ashdown RM that I love, so I bought the closest preamp: an Ashdown OriginAL. I play with it and IEM.

Ashdown Amps - what are the differences between models?
javi_bassist replied to PeteJ's topic in Amps and Cabs
That's a sexy awesome sounding amp. Is the cab a RM? -
I think that having a preamp pedal is always a great option. To me it was hard to jump into these because I'm an amp geek and I love my amps. But I have to admit that it was the best decision. I can play in any pub always knowing how I sound, getting my favourite preamp similar to the amp that I like without having to take my amp with me. I go to the studio and I just take my preamp. I can play using IEMs with just the preamp. It is not like the real thing, but it's portable and sounds awesome. And the Subway+ is an amazing preamp pedal. You won't regret it

Ashdown Amps - what are the differences between models?
javi_bassist replied to PeteJ's topic in Amps and Cabs
This new one looks impressive. I am a RM EVO user and I was an ABM EVO II user in the past, and I don't think they sound similar. I have gigged an ABM EVO II for some years and I love it. It's my favourite amp and I will get an EVO IV as soon as I can. I've been gigging the RM for a couple of years now and it has a unique sound. It's the best class D I've tried, kind of an old sound than modern. The EQ is its best feature, and with a little bit of drive and compression, it's a great amp. Especially for the price. I wonder how the RM compared to the OriginAL heads. The ABM and RM both are great options. IMO, the RM has more punch than my ABM EVO II, a little bit more modern (but classic sound anyway). -
I'm looking for a five string jazz bass. I am consider the Fender Player and the Ashdown. The black with maple fretboard is tempting

I'm thinking about getting a Markbass NY151. Which cabs do you use?

I've always experienced it without the jhs. Just the hx. Not complaining, most of the simulations are pretty good imo -

Very useful advice. Thanks! I've been following this thread even before buying the HX (but with that idea in mind). My setup now is the JHS comp before the HX Stomp and the Ashdown pre in the loop, to use Cab simulation. I'm still deciding if I like the cab simulation or not. I've been thinking about it a lot lately. Actually, when I use my real amp on stage, 99% of the time it's the DI coming from the amp, so the cab is just a monitor. And I've liked that sound. I'm considering putting the preamp at the end of the chain and forget about cab simulation. If I use a real amp, I will create two signal outs: one for the amp and one for FOH. And I have been also using the Ampeg SVT4 and playing with it and I'm liking it even more. I think most of the amps come very distorted in stock mode. But with the Drive low, I can achieve great clean tones. Still experimenting. -

Hello guys I am kinda new in the HX Stomp. So far, I have some virtual boards and patches for different songs for my band. I have also a couple of simple virtual pedalboards for my projects that do not require any effects. I've been trying different settings for compressors and nothing beats my JHS compressor. There are a couple of compressors in the HX that could replace it (when I only want to use the HX stomp instead of my pedalboard). I've been also experimenting with different amp modelers. So far, I really like the Ampeg SVT4. However, nothing beats the tone of my Ashdown ABM and I wish Line 6 would try to model it in the future (which I doubt actually). So, for now, when using the HX alone, I'll use the SVT4, but I plan to have my OriginAL preamp. And how do you like the cab simulation? I hated it at first. Now I kinda like the 215 Brute. But it's the only one. I want to look for some Mesa PH cab IR. -
I got my RM two years ago and I've been gigging it hard with it. Never let me down. I read here to add a little bit of drive and comp and it really adds something good to the tone. The Drive as an overdrive is pretty useless (imo).
-
I'm curious about the cab model (I know thew head and it just absolutely amazing). I saw two very similar cabs of the Ampeg PF, one being around 100 bucks cheaper. Which one is yours? I was going to ask if you like it, but I'm pretty sure you do

Sorry for the crappy picture. So these are the pedals I am currently using. I have to put them on my Nano+ pedalboard. Coming from a kinda big pedalboard, I must say I love it so far. I'm coming and going from the Ashdown Preamp. I am a huge Ashdown fan, but the Ampeg SVT4 simulation on the HX sounds pretty awesome and it saves me from carrying another pedal. I have also a Deluxe Comp set wehn I don't have the JHS, but to me ear, the JHS sounds a little bit better. The JHS is on the loop because I have an HPF first in chain. The drawback is that if I use the Ashdown, I cannot have it in the loop and use a cab simulation. However, not a big fan of the cab simulation nor the IRs I have downloaded. But still experimenting. -
The RM500 is my main amp right now and I've been using it for a couple of years now. I'm still surprised of how good it sounds every time I use it.

Hi guys I am looking for a new cab to pair with my Ashdown RM500. My first option is an Orange OBC112. Lightweight and cool looking. Being an Ashdown fan, the RM cab seems like a great option too. How do they compare? What do you guys recommend?

Great review and it looks amazing. I love mine. I also compared to higher end basses (american fenders) and I didn't think there was that huge difference that you see in the price tag. I'm not saying one is better than the other, but my 735 really feels like home. And everyone who tries one they get surprised.
