  1. Here it is. Pickups and action could do with a little adjusting, but plays well "out of the box". Don't know how they can afford to make these and sell them at such a low cost. I have an oil city overkill J size pickup I am thinking of putting in the bridge, and putting a Wilkinson set off a Vintage p bass in the p slot. So far so good with this little thing though.

  2. You could buy a Squier Affinity PJ bass and mod it. I'm thinking of doing it, as I have a j neck, pickups etc. Not sure if it's so light it might neck dive though...

  3. Had a good rattle off it earlier. It has that Ric clackity sound on the bridge with a bit of drive. Sounds massive. My p bass sounds puny beside it. If this is what a Ric sounds like, I want one!

Not sure why more companies haven’t used the Mosrite style pickups for bass...

  4. It’s not a faker but the body is a wee nod to a Ric. It’s on Reverb and by a guy call Martyn Scott. I’m new to this forum so apologies if he is on here and I’m retreading old ground. Has a mudbucker and that’s it. Would love to hear it !

  5. Got this delivered today. Needs some TLC and I'd say the strings are as old as the bass. There's a lot of dust gathered on the bridge. I got it on reverb from Asia, so God only knows the stories this guitar could tell. I haven't had an old intrument for a long time.

Bridge and neck sound really good on their own. I was looking for something a little different to a P or J configuration. But both pickups on together seems a lot quieter. Jack input is flakey so will need fixing. I may have to replace or upgrade the volume knob as well.

I had been tempted to get it refinished to get rid of all the knocks and dings on it, but I'll see. I suppose it adds to the character. Any suggestions on strings? Flatwound or roundwound. The ones on it are roundwound I think and are bloody old. The neck feels great. I have it beside a P bass at the moment, and it doesn't look *that* much shorter on the guitar rack, but it's far easier to play obviously than a P Bass.

Lots of aggressive riffs to come once this is playable. Here's a link to all the pics: https://imgur.com/gallery/YvYmZFA

  6. Has Rick also trademarked the positioning of its pickups? While companies can't copy the look, is it also the case they can't copy the type of pickup, or pickup placement?

Thoman tip their hat to the Ric with their bass but I haven't come across any other brands with a similar neck and bridge type pickup placement as a Ric, apart from the Fakers that is.

Surely, one can't trademark a 33.5 inch scale length, or placement of a pickup...?
