1.
Thanks for the replies, especially Prosebass for the detail which may prove useful to other Basschatters as well. Oh & Soulfinger wins the "Spot the delibrate mistake" with the Sellers other listing (which EBay have now suspended 29hrs after I raised this! Sadly I share Warwickhunts doubts as to how simple this will be to go away. I'll phone EBay in the morning as the free bass & money option didn't seem right. Watch this space as I'm sure I'll be posting again on this thread.
I think the key thing about keeping the goods is whether the seller is willing to negotiate. eBay prefer it if you try to sort it out between yourselves and I've found that most people are willing to come to an agreement provided the buyer covers return carriage. In my case, the seller refused to cooperate at all, so eBay provided the refund & I also kept the bass. I think this scenario is a last resort for eBay & so isn't the potential win/win situation it probably sounds like - most sellers have been reasonable in my experience. I guess it must be more cost effective to eBay to let you keep disputed items rather than having to set up a warehouse to process dodgy stuff that they didn't sell in the first place!
2. Had a look at the Mo Clifton site - those basses look tasty, but a bit over my price range at the mo! Been wondering about a Danelectro, but can't seem to find any short scale ones to try out. Longhorn basses always look a bit uncomfortable when I've seen people playing them - how do you find it lozbass? Also, what's the string spacing like on them? Cheers - B.
3.
/insert tongue in cheek/ Still not sure what a 'piccolo bass' is. Surely 'bass' derives from the range of the instrument, so isn't a piccolo bass a contradiction in terms. Have you considered of a ukelele? - available with the right number of strings and in the right register. /remove tongue from cheek/
Yeah - the term piccolo bass is total nonsense, isn't it!?! Like the idea of it though, as it would mean little adjustment in terms of fingering etc. compared to other instruments and the longer scale (compared to guitar) seems to give it a subtly different tone. There are a few things on You Tube where bass players are using them to basically play guitar solos, but I found this guy - he's getting an amazing set of tones from one: - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5NNwmwWX4LM...feature=channel Think I'll pass on the ukelele idea, thanks - too George Formby for my tastes B.
4. Know what you mean about playing above the 12th fret & have done a few things with two tracks of low/high bass in the past. The big problem I've found is when you play a chordal bass part with open strings over the top of another bassline & you overlap the same octave range - can make it a bit undefined when you mix it down. Will have to take the plunge & give it a try, I guess... B.
5. Hi - bass was the first instrument I picked up and I've always found it difficult to make the transisiton to guitar - too many strings & not enough space for my fat fingers! However, I'd like an instrument to put over bass when I'm recording (not in a band at the mo). I had the idea of buying a cheap short scale bass & stringing it with piccolo bass strings to basically turn it into a big 4 string guitar. I was thinking that something semi-acoustic with a pretty close string spacing at the bridge might do the job - possibly a cheap violin bass copy or something like a Danelectro Longhorn. Is this a bad idea? Cheers, B.
6. Hi - I've been through the eBay dispute resolution scheme and it does work, but it takes ages. Bought a bass a couple of years ago that was advertised as having a 'low' action - when it arrived it turned out that you couldn't actually play a clear note past the 12th fret due to it bowing! In the end, a local bass guru wrote a letter for me backing up everything I said & eBay eventually refunded my money (they let me keep the bass too, but that went to the bass guru for parts). The letter made all the difference - if you can supply supporting evidence (e.g. a scan of a letter on headed notepaper, or an e-mail with a business address/phone number that allows them to make independent contact) it will do wonders for your case. Good luck - you'll sort it out if you are persistent... B.

2X18 feedback

Just bought a Yamaha BEX4 from Will. He's a pleasure to deal with - great instrument, really smooth sale & thanks again for dropping it off. Cheers! B.
8. No problem - thanks for letting me know. Cheers, B.
9. Bump - there's no hard case, but would consider working out a postal delivery if possible
10. Hi, Replied to your PM. I'd prefer collection as I only have a Warwick gig bag for it & no hard case. I'm in Newcastle upon Tyne. Cheers, B.
11. Bump - looking for £170 for the bass with gigbag
12. Hi - having a bit of a clearout so my Tony Levin bass is up for grabs. It's the maple-necked version with the flamed maple top & a 3 band active EQ. Currently strung with Thomastik flatwounds to give it a lovely warm tone, it was recently set up by Howard Satterley who used to run Howard's Bass Place in Newcastle upon Tyne - he's given it a really nice low action & a much more expensive feel than you'd expect for a Chinese MusicMan copy. I'd like to find it a good home & am after £150 - it cost me £275 new + strings, set up & Warwick gig bag - I've only ever used it in the house. There are a couple of dings on the back of the body (see pics), but it looks pretty much as new from the front. I'm based in the north east & would prefer a collection if possible as there's no hard case. Let me know if you want any more info. Cheers, B. P.S. If there's anyone in the north who needs any bass work doing, I can put you in touch with Howard - he's still doing stuff from home & he usually does a great job! P.P.S. Edited for typos. 13. Hi - can you post some pics of the headstock damage & those pics/vids please? Also, would you be able to post it within the UK? They're a bit of a unique shape... B.
