1. I always think a boost of around 400hz give a well defined bass sound without getting boomy,
2. not a farewell tour then, for the best possible reason http://www.bbc.co.uk...t-arts-29727632
3. anything by the Ramones. Does the Beatles 'She's a Woman' have one of the worst rhymes in Rock and Roll history? My love don't give me presents I know that she's no peasant. Where's was Lennon's sardonic wit when the cack handed one wrote that little gem
4. probably the best Green bass in the world
5.
Now you mention it, I have to admit that after plugging in the USB stick (and, folks, this is not a standard off-the-shelf USB memory stick chucked in as an afterthought, but a properly customised design piece in its own right - I've not seen anything like it before but it's very cool indeed!), I did sit back and read through the gatefold sleeve plus insert while listening to the music, so yes, a bit more ritualistic than my usual practice of playing a new CD while doing something else. I really hope he idea catches on!
so what we need is a tiny little memory stick in a bloody great 12" x 12" gatefold sleeve, with insert, job done, maybe if they's made CD's 12" we wouldn't be having this discussion now
6. must admit I get very bored just sitting and listening, like to be doing something else as well even if it's just reading the paper, listening while driving is quite pleasant, as is cycling with my mp3 player on, though a tad more dangerous, but I like to live life in the fast lane or in this case on the cycle track
7. well I must admit I do prefer putting vinyl on a turntable to inserting a CD but I thought it was just a nostalgia thing, perhaps not, the artwork on a CD is pretty sh*tty and none existent on downloads
8. just read this, http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2796510/return-record-vinyl-set-sales-1996-sales-expected-past-one-million-mark.html although I've got a turntable I've not bought vinyl in years, is it nostalgia or is there something in it? I can't really comment on the sound quality, although CD's do sound better these days now I've got a 3-4K Hz drop off in my hearing
9. pretentious crap, mind you I could only listen to the first minute, does it get any better?
10.
Have a go at Saw Her Standing There by Beatles - great fun walking bass line!
and bloody difficult to do properly, for me anyway
11. of course you enjoyed playing it, it's one of the great rock and roll songs, don't assume there's loads more like that out there, to paraphrase Bill Clinton, "it's all about the song stupid" I'm not calling you stupid btw just trying to make the point that truly ground breaking great songs don't come around that often, as Chuck himself proved by using the same formula on dozens of his own songs
12.
That's interesting - I always thought it was very loud high frequencies that did for you.
I was surprised as well
13. trouble is 99% of musicians don't use them till the damage is done, I've a big hole around 3-4K Hz, as well as tinnitus in one ear, the audiologist reckoned it was the lower frequencies that do the damage I use the music safe ones, I've told our younger than me guitarist and singer to wear ear plugs before the damage occurs, do they listen, do they f**k
14. I do 1 or 2 open mics a week, but I take along my acoustic guitar and sing, I very rarely see a bass player, but there again I don't do Jam nights (which are totally different from open mics, IMO) they always seem to degenerate into an orgy of blues guitar playing, with the bass player doing endless 12 bar turnarounds, not my cup of tea at all.
15.
They are fabulous little things aren,t they. 6 squid off fleabag-bargain and a DI box as well
£6? somebody better tell this bloke, http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/BEHRINGER-BDI21-Bass-Amp-Modeler-Preamp-DI-Box-/181183164721?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&hash=item2a2f5bb131
16.
Not only did the singer come in early for the second verse in the recording studio, they left it in the finished version, which is still class
works thought doesn't it? I've always thought he meant to do it, In the band I play in we had a similar thing on a track we did, we did a long outro with the intention on fading it out, so we didn't know when to stop, after about 2 minutes the drummer decided to finish it by doing a out of time roll and crashes on the cymbals, sounded like a drum kit falling down the stairs it sound so good we left it in!
17. you do know you'll probably change your mind in a few months don't you?
18. just bought an acoustic guitar of ebay, UPS picked it up from the sellers place (Whitley Bay) on Monday at 12.15 it was delivered to me near Nottingham at 10am the next day and it was still in tune! So it's not all bad news on delivery companies
19. intonation on basses is well overated, or I could just be tone deaf :-)
20. does a right handed (I'm cack handed) encore I found leaning against a dustbin count?
21. sounds like you've been a bit of a pain in the arse to me, perhaps you're taking being Sting a bit too far, a well oiled crowd normally means a good gig, if song selection is right, most gigs are where drink is involved so occasionally a drunk goes over the top, learn to deal with it, it comes with the territory
22.
i know he uses a Shuker
he does now, back then he used, the now famous, hand painted green P bass that he broke in half and never quite managed to get 'that' tone again
23.
Gotta be most of the Bass lines by JJ Burnel on Rattus Norvegicus. Just how did he get that growl from his P bass and still retain the bottom end?
not so sure there was much bottom end, but it's certainly one of the most distinctive bass tones ever, just love it when it comes in on hanging around
24. first time we played a Sunday teatime gig about 5 years ago we'd never heard of them and we thought who's going to be there? but it went well and then it dawned on us, "what else is there to do on a Sunday teatime?". They have become a lot more popular in this area since then, it's got to be better than being dragged round the shops by the other half, any excuse to get out of that.
25. don't think it would be that difficult if you learnt like that, it's not like you're playing chords, once saw a Rolling Stones covers band and both guitarist were playing left handed with right handed guitars and they hadn't changed the strings round, they said they'd learnt like that and some chords were easier
