  1. Seems like a vote for the MXR @admiralchew - checked the Providence listing but it just got me more interested in hearing the MXR with flanger. GLWS but I think I'm on the hunt for an MXR, used so I don't lose much if/when I sell it on.
  2. Definitely shortlisting the MXR, seems to be highly regarded. Have to say what SL is doing here is some way off my patch with bright rounds on a fretted 6!! There are a few reviews on yt, always positive even allowing for its higher price. The flange gets some positive comments too... said the 'minimalist'.😂
  3. I'll look for that - bit of an investment but I think a good chorus is a key fretless voice so worth considering. Want to hear the EH Bass Clone too and maybe I need to revisit the BEC3.
  4. Yes, totally forgot about comp - sold my Darkglass to fund something a while ago... mistake. I'm going to investigate the TC stuff @hubrad, and most of the pedals recommended. Not sure about KMA as it appears to be a down only? Think I can find some of these used and treat it like the library... buy then sell on at minimal loss if not a keeper. And I definitely need to add in comp. Very good to get a fretless gang together for this, thanks to all. Next topics: strings, or even where the side dots belong on a fretless?!🤩
  5. A tidy board, nice. I'll definitely look at the EH Bass Clone. Been happy with the Hall of Fame but there's always a 'better'! I do have a Zoom B1 that I use to try things out - lot of toy for no money but not what I'd call user-friendly. So I'll check the OC5, EH clone and the Mooer. Got a Polytune at least, so it's a start
  6. I do agree! Most of the time I play dry, straight into the PJB set flat everything. But there are times when I want to add a bit of colour, expression whatever. Minimalist is relative to some of the boards I see on the boards thread, and I also tend to use small amounts of effect.
  7. Been round the block a bit on this. Scrapped an earlier board some time ago and sold some of the pedals so a fresh start. Wishlist is delay/reverb; chorus; octave **; subtle drive/dirt. I think that's it, suggestions welcome. Questions: - chorus - had a BEC3 (OK not blown away, sold), loved the TC toneprint but sold the amp, interested in the MXR. Is it better then the Boss at almost twice the price? - octave** - want octave UP - what is around, recommended - delay / reverb - have a TC Hall of Fame that works very well with my basses so could nick that from my other board - drive - suggestions please. Anyone got the FKT fretless box? - pricey and no flexibility but just wondering. Also maybe a phaser - any recommendations? Appreciate input 👍
  8. I was surprised we got that far without a mention of PJB. IMO about the cleanest head anywhere - provided clean means totally uncoloured so the sound of your bass (it's native sound the way you play it) - nothing added or taken away. That's my own take on 'clean'. Worth a look on the secondhand market too as they are not to everyone's taste so good deals to be got.
  9. Is that Liz Frazer formerly of Cocteau Twins / Mortal Coil ?
  10. What a very good songwriter. Wouldn't recognise him if he fell on my head from a high roof. Still got it... but playing one of those guitars that dentists and doctors buy to hang on walls.
  11. @Bassman68 - what do you think of that Behringer Ultra Chorus? I've been through a few chorus pedals including the widely used Boss (CEB3 I believe). Never settled on one, liked the TC Toneprint chorus but sold the toneprint amp. Just wondering as I have found that some cheaper pedals can be good. Maybe I should try a TC Corona, but interested in the Behringer.
  12. Keir just bought my Mayones fretless. Absolutely excellent to deal with - and a couple of good bass-chats on the phone, along the way. Sure knows his basses, great to talk fretless with a fellow-fan of them. Deal with 100% confidence - one of the very top BC members.
  13. IMO it's absolutely crazy this is still here. The 90s/millenium Fenders were among the very best builds, and this variant is a seriously versatile. I have one and it's a keeper.
  14. I recall using a Burman 4 x 12 as part of my bass rig when I was very little 😃 - back in the stack days - 2 4 x 12s and a Hiwatt 100 head, and that was a proper 100 loud bar-steward watts. Hadn't realised the name still lives - excellent. I see Laney, Hiwatt etc around but I think they're just the name passed forward. I'm still totally convinced there's no clever substitute for size and mass in bass systems. Very nice rig, way beyond my budget.
  15. OK- I'll try that, thanks. Downloaded the Tonelib Zoom UI but my Mac won't let me load it as it doesn't trust the source...😂 If I can do what I want on the actual pedal that'll be good, I'm not after anything complicated.
  16. Good question, on the fret positions where they should be !
  17. 4.2Kg / 9.2lb. Should be accurate within +/- 0.1kg. Width at nut: 42mm width at 12: 56mm
  18. Had this around 5 years, very impressed and fond but a Sandberg arrived and monogamy dictates this goes. Started life as a Fame (the Mayones rebadged by MusicStore Cologne for reasons only Mayones really know). A few years ago I had a guitar repair guy I know (mainly does vintage hollow bodies etc) re-dress fingerboard, he replaced the Mayones logo and resealed the head. If there was any doubt, this bass is absolutely a Mayones BE4 in all respects - build quality is outstanding: neck pocket fit super precise, ebony fingerboard is dense black and almost unmarked (very feint marks from some rounds long before I had it - very hard to see). Even the cavity cover on rear is carved from a solid piece of Amazique (I believe that is what was used). Condition - excellent, unmarked. Some slightly shiny areas on body and back of neck from playing. The original finish is (I believe) a hard oil, like Warwicks used on the Thumb etc). Not a big fan of current Mayones aesthetics but this is plain, understated and very tasty. Extremely hand-built - the neck and body pocket are hand numbered to match (I have a pic somewhere). Active 9v, MECs, volume (pull > passive); pan; stacked T&B. Currently strung LaBella nylon tapes which suit well. For a slightly punchier sound I rated the EB Cobalt flats highly (lots of good mids to work with). Complete with excellent bag - it's actually a Sire from an M series - fit is bang on and padding on those bags is really good. Can probably ship UK, Europe is possible (UPS) but pricey (just cost me £80 to get a bass from Italy fully insured). Not after trades... just maybe an Ampeg PF50t head. If local-ish, come and have a closer look.
  19. Thanks @tauzero - I'll start with the Zoom editor as I'm not too keen loading an emulator (bad experience some years ago, they've probably sorted it now). I looked at Tonelib but all I want for starters is access to the raw effects so I can make my own soup. On Zoom doc 'FX list' I grabbed this as an example - several chorus's, same with comps, delay/reverbs etc. Is there actually a way of accessing that list on the pedal? If not (and I can't find it) that seems a bit 'sweary'.
  20. Sounds like editing on laptop is maybe the way. I'm running Macs but I'm sure that would be OK - where do I find said editor - I looked on zoom site and found firmware but can't see an editor anywhere? And thanks for all help everyone!! 👍
  21. Got one of these as a basic (cheap) effects sketchpad - just to get rough ideas before putting a board together for fretless. But I'm finding it hard to see my way around it. I have downloaded the manual and the effects list - and read them! It seems the B1 comes with 50 pre-built patches which I can get inside and alter parameters or switch certain effects in or out, but I can't find any way of just going to the list of single effects (e.g. chorus + delay say) and building my own custom patch. It seems possible by copying an effect across from one of their patches to a new blank - BUT - is that really it, because there are some FX I can't even find in the pre-set patches - some chorus FX like the Boss which is listed for example. And I'm finding most of their pre-set FX a bit full-on to bonkers for my taste. So, anyone advise how to build my own new patches - what am I missing?
  22. Tasty. Built proper and bet it sounds fab. Too far away for me, shame. Also there's a rumour it weighs around 42Kg?... but I grew up on Trace Elliot so wtf don't care 😂. Think this combo wants to go travelling.
  23. Shame they don't seem to do flats. Found their site and a few eBay sellers seem to have them, plus Thomann - maybe a bit Europe-crntric distribution? http://www.blacksmithstrings.com/products/index.jsp?shospital_fk=2
  24. Verdine White with Earth, Wind and Fire on 'September'. I never took to EW&F bc I always felt they were way too 'shiny' - big in every direction and way over arranged and produced... a product of the time. But this song is well worth revisiting: the chord sequences are a bit out of the ordinary, and the way Verdine White weaves his way through and around them is tasty.
  25. Me too. Never heard of it til now. Just ordered some. They do 2 types, Montypresso and instrument food. Think I'm up for trying the Montypresso on my '98 P. I'll test on some bits of dark hardwoods first (have some rosewood knocking about). He does p'ups too - the artist list is quite an impressive list. Sounds like a pretty cool place - coffee features quite a bit 👍 https://www.montysguitars.com/collections/department-of-component
