  1. "If you're a female player you need a short scale bass." If you can get past the sexism on display here, you just have to look at the evidence. I guess no-one told Suzi Quattro that did they? She's only 5 foot nothing and seemed fine with a full scale P bass. "All bass players do is go Thump Thump Thump" - Said to me by someone who doesn't play ANY instruments at all.
  2. I guess you could splurge and get the Geddy Lee and the Player and swap necks! Then sell the Geddy (or give it to me of course ). It would still be cheaper than the custom shop route.
  3. The cheapest (according to Fender's website) is the Squier CV 70s Jazz Bass followed by Geddy Lee model but it's only black body or three colour sunburst. Next is the American Ultra range, but you are starting to get into silly money now. I do appreciate that none of them have the tidepool finish. But I'm sure you could paint the natural Squier CV couldn't you?
  4. Hello from a litte further afield (Exeter!) Good to have you here.
  5. Bore Da Judi Congrats on being Roger Waters!
  6. Sorry about that. Try this one and clicking the Classic Vibe box on the left.
  7. Hi All Very excited by Fender's announcement that they are releasing the Classic Vibe Squier Basses. I now can't decide between a '60s P or a '60s J! I guess at that price both is an option...
  8. I am also a huge organ fan (although my absolute favourite is the Farfisa Compact) the B3 is surely one of the most versatile instruments. I am lucky enough to be taking organ lessons soon, from an actual organist rather than a piano teacher thinking they are the same and I'll be learning on a pipe organ! Anyway I digress, one of my favourite Hammond tones has to be:
  9. Hi Rob and welcome from Exeter! It's good to see the South West being even better represented here. Wise choice on getting into bass
  10. Welcome Strawbz I hope you continue to come back and chip in. I too am a Hants (Portsmouth) person, who is currently in self imposed exile in Exeter!
  11. I have just got in to the Swiss Garage band The Jackets: and also getting in to Black Rebel Motorcycle Club. I konw they're not new per se, but great non the less:
  12. Hi Hugh Welcome to the family! I hope you manage to find another band that you gel with.
  13. Hi Tapwater And welcome to the forum from South Devon (I'm in Exeter). It's always good to have new members here. One thing you will be asked for is pictures of your bass! It's the currency in these parts.
  14. I know I am new to this bassing malarkey, but I did play an Aria FEB Fretless acoustic and loved it. It felt comfortable to play and sounded really nice (in my opinion) plus I'm a bit of a sucker for F Holes (grew up as a Gretsch fan!). I do realise that they could be the worst basses on earth, but I liked it.

Hello Waldo Have a great Christmas yourself. I am new here myself (first post this morning) so welcome on board.
  16. I have only just started with the bass and already I am feeling it a lot more than I have any other instrument. I have just got a Squier Affinity P Bass starter pack from GAK for a price that was too good to refuse (£199). It is a 2018 bass in 3 colour burst and I just love playing it. I am currently trying to get some good right hand technique by learning White Rabbit by Jefferson Airplane. The triplet in the intro is causing me a bit of grief! I am into garage/psychedelic/classic/glam rock and my first musical hero was (and still is) Steve Priest from Sweet, but I have quite a few others (JJ Burnell, Sammi Yaffa, John Paul Jones, Jack Casady, Stu Cook to name a few). I would love t get a band together and get gigging but one step at a time. I've got to learn to play first. Luckily in Exeter I have the bonus of Having Manson's Guitars, and although their bass section isn't the biggest (whose is?) I had the pleasure of talking to one of their bass guys yesterday, who just happened to be John Paul Jones' guitar tech! The very man who built the JPJ signature bass. Anyway, I know forum rules dictate that unless there's a photo, it didn't happen, so here's my new baby:
