Oh, also, it looks like this "Chic" might have a more accurate bridge pickup placement!

So, that means that they at least do exist. 🙂Some factories seem to have cottoned onto this, now. Plus, that one looks like it has standard-length heel, instead of those really long ones.

Any indication of why a £4k 10 string mandolin being sold on gumtree would be of interest to rickenbacker or chris Squier fans?

Only if you tell me how to play last train to London 😁
I find it difficult to play with a plec. I must have another go at it.

Those rounded pup covers look like something seen on '70s Jap copies. Paging @Bassassin

I don't remember that with Maggie, but I do remember this!

£11k with a refinished neck? Does that mean the logo is also a replica?
I'm no expert, but the burst colour doesn't look right to me either, but could be down to lighting potentially.Si
That neck refin looks like a bad shellac finish.

I don’t know much about that sort of thing but does that mean the pickup would need to be rewound
Yes. Woodinblack is correct as well, but if they've looked at the electrics and they tested ok, the only answer is a broken coil.

Its symptomatic of a shorted tone capacitor
As the value of an older fender bass is more in its age and originality rather than it being an instrument, I would say that this would be the right thing to do.
I had it on a Mustang bass. It was definitely a broken coil. I swapped out everything and it didn't solve the problem. Dialling the tone back saw a considerable volume drop and thin, weedy tone.
-
And: 'Tone control pot may need attention as it currently works as a volume pot..' - isn't that a symptom of a broken coil?

Oh the lustre was back last night, in absolute spades. It was the best I've seen them in years.
For anyone who's interested, the set was:
Almost There
To Be With You Again
Running In The Family
Micro Kid
The Sun Goes Down
Children Say
Heathrow
Love Meeting Love
Kansas City Milkman
World Machine
Love Games
Starchild
Something About You
Lessons In Love
encores:
Heaven In My Hands
The Chinese Way
Hot Water
I'm off to make a playlist of it
KCM is one of my fav tracks. I could never get the hang of the count before the bass came in.

They're one of those bands I saw back in their heyday. I have good memories of those times and that's they I want them to stay. Like old girlfriends I don't really want to see them as they are now.
Same here, even though I love MK's playing. I was daft on them from The Early Tapes/Level 42 and saw them several times back then. They lost me with World Machine, though I did go to see them touring it. The lustre was gone, and I didn't like the commercial direction they seemed to be taking. That was it, door closed.
That said, pleased to hear they're still being enjoyed by many,

I bloody love Level 42, however my one and only live experience, many years ago, wasn’t a good one. Probably down to the terrible Blackburn King Georges Hall more than anything, but also the band didn’t seem to be firing on all cylinders either.
I’m embarrassed to say that I left halfway through and went home.
I’d love to give them another go…. but missed out this time
That's an horrendous venue.

I can’t recall seeing a Ric with a zero fret….was it special to this model?
Yes. A Macca mod that he wanted.

I thought that about the zero fret, too, but there seem to be loads of them out there when you search for 4001c64shttps://guitarchimp.com/products/2009-rickenbacker-4001c64s-mg-satin-mapleglo-bass-guitar-2
https://guitarchimp.com/products/2005-rickenbacker-4001c64-jetglo-bass-guitar
The C64 and C64S are based on Macca's Rick 4001. It was he who got he zero fret added, therefore they are included in these models.

Look at those cute, non-JB single coils!
Paging @Bassassin I've never heard of this brand before! -
Looks like a 4001 C64S carcass. Or one made by HW

The RickResource crowd would pop veins over that.

On one occasion a Landlady got quite upset with us as someone from another band had posted something on Facebook about the way the venue treated bands and she thought it was us, despite our lead singers protestations. Thankfully it was sorted out and we have been rebooked.
Completely un-associated with the thread, but your avatar GIF has just reminded me of what an ex-GF did to my new, early Fender Custom Shop Fretless jazz bass. Exactly that same move. The crack in the heel finish thankfully never went through to the wood.

No chance. It's the demand that keeps them selling.
Why don't you look to Japan for copies like Greco? Some of these are as good, if not better, than the real thing.
