Vaseline will deaden the string, I’ve done it and it definitely works, a Sean Hurley tip
There was a time, back in the early Noughties, when RS66 were dead out of the packet!

Do you mean Martin Turner? Ted was one of the guitarists.
EDIT: Sorry, that sounds very pedantic! Wasn't meant to be.
God, yes!! 🙂 Edited.

To widen my bass vocabulary I started learning some jamerson songs a few years ago, it wasn’t until I started breaking them down that I realised just how great he really was, and to play them with one finger is remarkable
It's taken that Insta vid for me to note that he rested his second and third fingers on the pup cover as an anchor.

Strings direct will probably sell you a single one.
Then do the hand cream thing to age it down to sound like the old ones.
Martin Turner of Wishbone Ash said he used tomato ketchup on Roto RS66 to deaden them. To this day, I'm not sure if was being cheeky or not.

I've seen a few of those, usually on Gumtree. Expensive guitars in remote locations. I once spotted a Martin D-45, location was somewhere down London way. The price was stupid low - £800. I asked if I could come over and try it. Seller replies, saying it's a bit unfortunate as the guitar was currently in Shetland!! I then told him I was in Edinburgh, and I could get a cheap flight up and have a look at it. No further contact. 🙂

Rickenbacker 4003s Fireglo 2023 upgraded, similar to a V63 spec with Rickenbacker 00031 Bass toaster pickup and Rickenbacker Horseshoe pickup which alter the tone quite significantly from stock pickups, vintage scratch plate and plexi truss rod cover. mono output, vintage tone circuit, superb playing and sounding instrument with low action, this model features the single truss rod and new tailpiece, the skunk stripe is also on this model.
the neck profile is a flat D and very thin for a Rickenbacker, this bass sounds huge with the Horseshoe, the toaster is just such a creamy sounding bass tone , I could play this bass all day with that pickup alone. included is the Rickenbacker hard case and case candy, weight is 4.4kg, stunning Fireglo finish , pictures don't do it justice. pick up preferred but if you wish to organise a courier pickup no problem with that. I have the original shipping carton. £2750
my BC.
Did you buy that bass, earlier this year, from Andy Baxter, perchance?

I don't really see an issue with that. Anyone can take the risk of buying from the original supplier, waiting for the delivery and chasing up any problems that they want. Or they could buy from this guy and if something goes wrong send it back (and yes, I know he says he wont accept returns, but that is his opnion, not a statement of fact!).
I have often bought something in the UK from a seller when I know there is the original in aliexpress, but I just don't have a few weeks to waste,
He's having to wait, as well. He's doing the ordering, and hanging c£220 onto the the pleasure of doing so! 😄

Yeh, nothing 'wrong' with it, of course. But at £450 for a Chickenbacker, caveat emptor, indeed.
His shop advertises a wheen of AliE gear.
-
Obvs taking orders, buying them, then making a lift. Nice work if your can get it.
The same bass is for sale on AliE for £233, free shipping.

Indeed, the piece stands or falls on the end harmonics. Such a shame to ruin it that way.
Does it really?
My post was merely an observation, not a criticism.

Pretty goo, apart from missing the end harmonics, totally. It's a tenth position finger-on with the index finger, and the harmonics over the thirteenth with the pinkie.

That's a youngster, there!
Never been able to nail all of that track!

Mesas are notoriously expensive to repair. Sick Amps in Harlow are a Mesa Authorised repairer and they charge £180 just to look at a Mesa amp, they'll repair it within that cost if it's easy enough but if it requires parts then it'll be more, and parts are difficult to come by from Mesa. Not sure it's worth the return.
I can confirm this, from knowing a guy that had a Mk IV that was constantly playing up on gigs. He eventually retired it.

There's a Jazz Bass rout? Is that it behind the swimming pool?

Hi, Clarky. Do you have the original wavy Grovers?

1. My old Steiny XL2A. Flogged it once, bought it back 7 years later, and sold it again 12 years later. Mug.
2. Both my late '90s Warwick Thumb NT basses: a fretted and a UF.

Yes but then they wouldn't be able to keep up with the demand (I expect).
Even if they could, they wouldn't; they like to control supply. And I'm pretty sure every Rick that leaves the factory is already paid for.
La Bella Deep Talkin E string casualty!

Mainly the E string, but there were reports of most being dead. Jason Howe acknowledged this. The internet is full of examples. Happened to me twice back then, and I sent the whole lot back to Roto. That's when I switched over to Warwick Reds, which I now find difficult to get ahold of.
