  1. Yes Chuck. The John East pre , as you may know, is as powerful or subtle as you want , going way beyond any treble or high end mids for me so there’s something there for anyone’s taste. I know what you mean about the first few frets on some jazzers but this isnt like , say, a Lakland skyline 44-64 PJ. Silly slim. Necks vary don’t they? I know it’s a J-1004 but this one feels deep to me and I have big skinny hands. I just measured with my digital calipers. Nut width 38.8mm, 3rd fret 44mm , 5th 47.5mm, 7th 50.5mm, 12th 57mm which is interesting because the string spacing at the saddles is 19mm, so 57mm from E to G centres. Why not compare the girth of the fret board to one of your basses? At 5th fret this neck is 12.5cm ( piece of non stretch string used ) 7th 13mm and at 12th 14cm, wrapping string tightly around the neck. Thanks for the bump 👍 Quent
  2. Thanks Bigsmoke. It’s a real beauty as well as producing all kinds of wonderful tones with the John East Pre and those Hot Rod dual coil pickups with a 3 way switch each. I’ve had it 4 years and love it but it’s time for someone else to enjoy it ! I see your pic with a Yamma there. I’ll be putting more basses up soon as needs must. Cheers.
  3. Hi everybody. GO ON THEN - Yours for ** £370 ** or £350 without the new Tourtech gig bag or £340 without both gig bag and D Tuner. Last few days of October to snap up this beauty before I move it on to a shop. UK mainland delivery included. New Tourtech padded gigbag and D Tuner. Frets polished and fretboard cleaned this week, not that it really needed it. I bought this 2002 (ESP) LTD DLX J-1004 in June 2020 from Basschatter “Bass Wielder “. He had upgrading modifications done professionally about 5 years ago and it gives a superb variety of tones. It’s exactly 5kg , 11lbs using my accurate scales but is very well balanced and is therefore fine with a wide grippy shoulder strap and when you’re seated it’s reassuringly plonked and stable on your thigh compared to some light weights. A recommendation here by Basschatter Harlequin74 ( July 15 ) who played the bass at The Gallery. ” Just a quick recommend for this bass. Tested it at Bass Gallery when there to pick up another bass. Lovely bass, with fantastic build quality and amazing tonal variation with John East preamp. Looks lovely too. “ Upgraded with 2 pairs of switchable Hot-Rod coils and a John East Uni-Pre. It has a lovely dark rosewood neck with abalone markers and side dots. Ash body with golden Quilted maple top and gorgeous binding containing abalone shards ( looks like that). So a hell of a lot of bass features and top electronics on offer here. Notice the great top edge contouring (photo) with rear scoop and front curve for arm rest comfort. The photos capturing the more golden shades of the body are the nearest to it’s actual shade. See further below for the Eternal Guitars and Hot-Rods detail on the windings and 3 way switches for each pair of coils. Centre position for both coils in series, then left or right for each single coil. Notes by maker Dave Walsh a few paragraphs below. The Modifications. *East UK Uni pre - Active /Passive bass pre-amp that simply is world class. *East UK BLI - battery low indicator tells you when 9v is almost out of power. Easiest to look at the Uni Pre using the John East link below. See 5 knob version. No noticeable change in Vol when pulling / push Passive tone knob ( sits above the line of 4 knobs on my bass). Line of 4 goes Vol Blend Mids/sweep Treb/Bass with pull for extra sizzle. The Treb knob is slightly scratchy when turning it but fine once in position. The passive tone works in active mode too but for me best turned full on for best clarity from the active EQ. *Hot-Rods custom made pickups - Specially made for this bass. It is like having four Jazz style pickups in a two shell package (3 way switchable between each pair of coils). The combination of this and the East UK has turned this instrument into a very versatile beast. From Marcus Miller slap to Jaco jazz to Pino P-bass if you have the skills ! 22 year old bass but only has a few small marks on the thick gloss coated body so they look no worse than a bit of dust on the bass. See arrows on photos. 1/2 inch crack in the gloss only, under the neck pocket, see photo looking under the neck joint. It’s stable so is not an issue. Some pick playing lines on body under strings at playing area. It’s quite a vintage golden colour on the body top. One or two minor scratch marks if you peer very closely and an edge gloss chip on the headstock (tuner-side ) so minor cosmetics only considering the age. Frets look like they’ve had a proper levelling because it plays superbly, no buzz and actually sings when not plugged in. Minimal neck relief, I tightened the truss rod slightly recently and the strings run from 2.0mm to 1.8mm E to G at 12th when fretted at 1st. Room for the saddles to go lower. The saddles are adjustable laterally for string spacing adjustment. Selling to fund other basses purchased. I’ve had my fun with this (ESP)LTD J1004 experimenting for hours with the brilliant John East Uni-Pre, Two 3 way switches and some blending of the pups. It’s endless what you can create. I need to start replacing some basses if I’m to experiment further. A Note copied below on the bass’s modifications , from Dave at Eternal Guitars and (Hot Rod) Pickups. UK to Bass Wielder ( Hope that’s ok BW. All technical ) Unit 8A Littlemead Business Centre, Tangmere Rd, Chichester PO20 2EU, United Kingdom "Hi. Glad that you like the pickups so far! Okay, wiring: they are wound and wired in a similar fashion to a normal humbucking pickup but of course with the exception that each coil is a true Jazz bass pickup. To wire them in series you will need to join the red and green wires together and cover the join with tape or shrink tubing. If you plan to coil split, then the joined red/green will go to your switch. White is live and black is earth. Some details on the pickups: the neck pickup is two Jazz bass pickups wound to vintage specs and placed side by side - both pickups use forbon flatwork and eight magnetised poles. Either could be used individually if desired for a 'true' singlecoil sound or in series (as supplied). The bridge pickup is slightly different - it uses a vintage spec wound Jazz bass pickup nearest to the neck but the coil nearest to the bridge uses identical flatwork and magnets but with a 'hotter' coil wind. When selected on its own this coil will have a thicker and warmer single coil tone than a traditional Jazz bass. I hope this helps and please let me know if you need any help wiring them up... : ) Cheers for now, Dave Walsh Eternal Guitars & Pickups . Chichester. UK “ 34" scale Ash body w/quilted maple top and gorgeous binding with abalone shards. ** Maple neck w/dual graphite reinforcement rods** V advanced for 2002. Rosewood fingerboard 38mm nut width Abalone dot inlays w/model name at 12th fret Hipshot Gold Ultralite tuners, satin. Separate Gotoh gold D Tuner , polished. Has 45-105 Elixir Nickel plated steel strings ( Nanoweb Coating ) and they still a lot of life in them. New padded Tourtech gig bag and D Tuner which fits but does not match. Truss rod moves fine, allen key provided in bag top pocket with D Tuner. I’ll insure the delivery and pack and pad well. UK mainland only ( it’s £20 extra to NI I’ve discovered but happy to send if you add the £20 👍) I use FedEx nowadays. Thanks for looking and , as I said, last few days in October for this before I move it on. Cheers Quent
  4. Keith ( aka BlueMoon ) was a pleasure to deal with when he bought my Lakland LH3 preamp recently. Great comms and fast response, quick payment, easy and relaxed to deal with and a good Basschat style social exchange via messages ! Cheers. Quent ( aka quent on Basschat )
  5. I just bought Laurie’s Cort A5 Plus FMMH and it’s a beauty at a great price. Quick dispatch and very well packed. Very easy and efficient messaging so I recommend Dan Dare very highly indeed and will be happy to buy again. Thanks Laurie. Quent
  6. I hardly ever comment on basses for sale but I have one of these and think this is an absolute steal for the quality of bass and tonal variety from the Bartolini pups and pre. Very comfortable bass and this is even lighter than mine. Stunning finish and overall look. GLWTS 👍
  7. Hi iubitu’. I’ve tried 3 times to message you but the Basschat system shows a message “ iubitu’ can not receive messages “. Can you contact a Basschat administrator and try to receive message. We can only sort payment by Personal Message on here. Cheers. Quent
  8. Many thanks to Doctor J who just bought my pair of G&L bass Humbuckers. Great comms and lots of patience as I updated him on delivery to Ireland from UK with Customs fees involved. Friendly throughout the deal so I can recommend Doctor J very highly. Quent
  9. Hi everybody and I hope all’s well where you are. Got misenn a nice Lakland Skyline 44-02 ( 2011 ). For variety ( got a 55-02) and to have a tone control when in passive mode I’ve had the pre swapped out by Steve at guitarlodge.co.uk ( for a 3 band Glock) so he’s checked over the LH3 and replaced the old dodgy 3 Way toggle switch with a new one for the humbucker coils ( Either or Both). Tested by Steve, this is good to go. Labelled up. The jack socket is fine and didn’t need replacing. Push Pull Vol for active/passive, pickup blend, Bass Mids Treb. He adjusted the small Gain screw ( see photo) on the Pre board to match active and passive volumes. The board’s mid frequency adjustment dip switches are set to 550 Hz but suit yourself with the options , see photo below. Really useful adjustment this. ( I nicked the photo highlighting the Gain screw so that shows the dips set at 500Hz ) Pot shafts are 6mm split and the soft touch rubbery ( with plastic inserts ) Lakland knobs are included and look hardly used. Thanks for looking. Quent
  10. Hi everyone. This is Revision 1.1 Pre Amp + Pots and switches - Still available for £40 ( Pickups now sold - hence £150 Originally) I got a G&L USA L2000 (2002 ) recently and have had it refreshed with a new preamp and pickups by local excellent bass and guitar technician Steve Barratt at guitarlodge.co.uk in Felixstowe. He’s prepared the old preamp for me to resell, replaced one faulty switch and bought a new jack socket and made all connections good. Then Tested by himself. Steve labelled the parts ( Blend is the neck/both/bridge switch ). The board is Rev 1.1 as you’ll see in the photos along with Paul Gagon’s ( Ex G&L electronics top guy) low down on the Revisions 1997 and 2011 ? but see what I extracted from Basstalk site. Very minor revisions ,he writes, and the latest (2011) Rev 1.3 has some filter to cut out possible radio interference which some players’s set ups or location can occasionally pick up. Must be rare that, because the Rev was only introduced after donkeys years from first edition preamp. £40 includes UK delivery. No knobs ( on my bass ) but Armstrong sell beauties to fit ( see photo ) aluminium, super shiny chrome finish and knurled nicely rather than pointy-style like some. Thanks for looking. Quent
  11. Meanwhile, ahead in the future by 14+ years ! WD40 just work fine this afternoon ( Put yer Marigolds on!) for meon a 3 ply plastic Tort Fender Jazz pickguard. Bought a used bass but the film had been on this guard for years I think. Wrinkled and a fiddle to pull off the film in several pieces. The whole guard had seemingly most of the adhesive left all over it. A clean cotton rag I used. Sprayed plenty WD40 on one half and rotated the rag after wiping off towards one end. Then a new rag to do the other half , working towards the other end. 2nd spray to finish it all off. Then paper kitchen towel rub down followed by warm water and washing up liquid front and back. Rinse. Looks nice n shiny. No damage to the shiny surface at all. So, +1 WD40 in Jan 2024. From total mess to shiny with 5 mins of work ( Once I got the chuffin film off - 45 really ! ) Cheers all. Quent.
  12. I just bought Gerry’s Squier Mini P and I can’t recommend him high enough to do a deal with. Great communication, packaging, price and loads of patience when the collection from him was delayed by the courier. Friendly and helpful with advice too. Thanks Gerry!
  13. Hi, I replaced the black tuners on my Spector Pulse II with a Gold Gotoh GB707 set. The Gold are a drop in replacement. See dimensions diagram which happens to be for Wilkinson Open gear tuners but I checked dims with my Digital Calipers so the diagram is accurate. Spector Logos are painted/printed , not a sticker. £45 includes UK postage and these were only my bass for a few days. Weigh 240g, see photo. Also selling exactly same dimension set from an older Spector NT4 but they are in excellent condition too ( £40 ). Cheers. Quent
  14. Thanks for the GLWTS you guys. Yes, we’re talking Twangtastic here! Please read my Feedback. I wouldn’t say Mint of it wasn’t and without fret wear you’re really saving your money on a new one here. 3k ? Quent
  15. Hi everyone. My Stingray is in perfect condition having first been owned 2012-16 by a collector in Scotland who didn’t play. I bought it from Tom Mulraney of Hoffnine Custom Cabinets in Aidrie in April 2016. It’s had home play only with me since then and my own collection means it hasn’t been played much by me so there is no visible wear of the frets and the the body is swirl and damage free. Strung with a set of Elixir nanoweb coated nickel plated strings with plenty of life in them still. The original pick guard had minimal swirls so I’ve bought an identical 3 ply BWB guard. The original case is Mint too so opening this up you’ll see what the original purchaser saw back in 2012. The bass is currently at The Gallery , Camden, London and has been Bass of the Week there from 18th Dec until 8th Jan. I can call it back from there any time I need to and post on to you UK insured (£2000) delivery or within Europe if you pay the extra postage. (The Gallery won’t entertain anyone trying it there then buying from me.) Weight 4.2kg , 9lbs 4oz Swamp Ash Body 34 inch Scale, 41.3mm nut, Neck Radius 11 inch. Matching Headstock Neck finish Gunstock Oil and Hand-rubbed wax blend Super clean of course and I gave the dark rosewood fretboard an oil clean and fret polish recently. I took the photos in a low sun so a few reflections that look like grubby marks and a little dust looks like slight swirling but there are in fact none. Others phots at thebassgallery.com. White guard is included and the truss rod bar tool and saddles allen key. I’m lucky to have owned this beauty and it’s wonderful to play but after a few years my curiosity to try other basses needs funding. Cheers and please ask if you need more information. Quent
