1. I change the batteries in the Status basses anually. They're not dead by that point by any means, but it makes sure I never go distorted or dead on a gig! People have said that the Yamaha TRB's use a lot of power, but I use mine a lot for shows & jazz jobs. Again, the batteries seem to last for a very long time. On the plus side (geddit?!), I'm doing a week of "Anything Goes" this week & the engineer gave me a whole box of part used 9v batteries. (They use them for one night only in the radio mics! So they're only slightly used.) Rich.
2. There's a second hand Yamaha TRB-6 II on the for sale pages on here. I wouldn't be without mine!
3. Hey funkyfreddie, thanks for that Seems I'm going to definitely need to try a Sadowsky. I know I love the sound of them overall, so I'll try and do a trip in the next few weeks. What free time???
4. Everytime a thread like this comes up I always say the same thing... Yamaha BB614. You're getting a great jazz sound, a great precision sound & 3-band active preamp into the bargain. I've got one knocking around at the moment & it's fab! Rich.
5. Hey Steve, I have thought about it, but I want a wooden necked bass. I'm after that Tal Wilkenfeld jazz tone. It's going to have to be a Sadowsky, methinks!
6. Sounds fine to me. I'm sure Rob could retrofit them as well, although I've never had a bass with LED's yet. Best of luck with the heavy savings reigeme!
7.
Cause it's a Status, that's why.
Do you need any other reason, Steve?? I know what you mean - I'm looking at a high-end jazz of some sort at the moment & I know I'll be questioning myself when the time comes to hand over another serious amount of money, "Why aren't you spending this money on a Status??!" Rich.
8. As the Steve-ster said, it's 50% up front, then the rest on completion. I'm sure Dawn would take a £1000 deposit, though. Give them a call Rich.
9. Thanks Steve - That's very interesting. It's good to hear as many opinions on jazzes as you can, because anything non-Status isn't my area & there are so many jazzes around! The Fender Am.Std is basically my fall-back position for if I don't find anything I like, but I really will get out in the next couple of months and try loads of jazzes. I guess the true extent of the mission is to find the jazz-bass equivalent of my Status S2's! I actually played a couple of the Sandbergs the other day & found the JM Cali a little thin for my tastes, but the Panther 5 with the angled soapbars was excellent. But these sounded too close to what I already had. Excellent bass though. I'll plan a day to Geordie Land and see what I can see May even come back with a Sadowsky! Thanks, guys! Rich.
10. Hey Chris, I was wondering when you'd show up I think I'm going to have to try the Metros at GG in Newcastle to see if I like them, really.
11. Hi Mike, I played a JO Lakland with through-body stringing on Sunday at Electro. Nice bass, but not as substantial feeling as the Fender. Wicked sound, though. I think that being as the Metro doesn't have through-body stringing (a pre-requisite as far as I'm concerned, as I like the thicker sound you get!), I'm going to end up getting a Fender. I'll ask Dave to order two in, same as he did with my 08 Precision so I can choose the best one So the final spec I think will be Fender 08 Am.Std Jazz in 3TS with maple board, running on DR fat beams (40-100) through my Sadowsky pre. That'll sound pretty awesome Rich.
12. Best of luck with that, Marcus I hope you get the finances there soon! Can anyone tell me & save me a call to the Bass-Bishop of Colchester... How easy is it to get front LED's retrofitted into a through-neck Status? Rich.
13. I've got a project just starting with guaranteed serious amounts of work for serious amounts of money. I've decided I need a serious jazz for this as well. Sadowsky's going to be the obvious choice - I love the Metro UV-70 in natural & also like the look of the RV-4 in black, both with maple boards. I've already got the Sadowsky preamp pedal, so my other option is to get a new American Standard jazz with the lovely noiseless pickups, through-body stringing & glossed board for a lot less money. So the questions... Do the Metros have glossed maple boards? Do they have through-body stringing? Are they really that much better than a carefully chosen and sought out Fender? Rich.
14.
(strokes imaginary beard). How would yours look?
Imaginary beard? Looks real on your avatar, Steve - Is it removable? I'm going to buck the trend here & not order one. I'm going to be needing a serious jazz in the next few months, so I'm looking at Sadowsky, etc. Also very into my 6-string at the moment (playing a week of "Anything Goes" this week & the six-stringer makes easy work of some seriously nasty keys!) and seriously thinking about ordering an S2 6-er. Rich.
15. If you fancy a trip across the M62 I'm just on the south side of the Humber Bridge. I've got an S2-Classic through neck, S2-Classic 5-string bolt-on, KingBass Artist & an older Series II. They're all headless, but the neck feel on the headed ones isn't really any different. The weight difference is negligable as well. Rich.
16. Lovely looking bass! Congrats
17. That's a nice one. Someone should snap this up in no time
18. That's stunning! Congrats - That's the one Nick & I were pictured playing the other day (earlier on in this thread). *Sniff* I wanted that one You really have snared a beautiful bass there... Dare we ask how much? Rich.
19. Ah, S1! I see! There is something similar on the stock pages at the moment. A "2008" Energy, but I think that's just made of leftover SmartBass components. Lovely looking thing, though. Have a look on the website.
20. Yes they're still in production, Andy. The original & best Status Rich.
21. I've got the most stunning S2 5-string bolt-on, but no, I don't want to offload it at all... My preccciousss, all miiiine... *Cackles*! Seriously, they are a bargain. I always thought the bolt-ons would be low rent compared to the glossed neck-thru models I'd always had, but I love my 5-stringer.
22. Would you be able to reinstall the tone control for the next owner?
23.
What a piece of junk!!!!
LOL Jay! I didn't say I wanted one... Just that it's kinda cool in a Scrapheap Challenge sorta way
24. Now I'm a big fan of new & shiny, but there's something about that transparent wine Highway One Jazz. Looks fantastic! Rich.
25. A second hand Sadowsky Metro? New I'd have a serious look at the 08 Fender American Standard. Great sounding instrument & well below budget as well. The Lakland's sound great but they feel just a tad insubstantial to me. +1 on the Sandbergs. The California JM is a mighty beast.
