1. Given the sorry state of the £ at the moment can anybody suggest a good (i.e. cheap) place to source D'Addario tapered B strings - specifically XLB135Ts? Cheers.
 2. Sold Myke a rack case recently, all went smoothly.
 3. Planet Waves instrument and insert cables added.
 4.
do you know of any players that use fretless basses for heavier styles?i can only think of les claypool and steve di gorgio from the metal band death.
There's a few guys out there such as Jeroen Paul Thesseling on the new Obscura record, but the one to check out is definitely Sean Malone - and in particular anything from Focus by Cynic. I myself played fretless in a tech metal/fusion band called Linear Sphere. Sonically, given the softer attack of a fretless you'll need a clear sound with prominent mids in order to 'cut through' heavy distorted guitars.

 7. No, but I'll take some and post them up in the next couple of days.
 8. Which one? They did three as far as I'm aware - The Light Beyond being my favourite. Check out Gambale's Concert With Class DVD if you get the chance as he plays a few of the GHS tunes on there, I actually prefer these versions as Ric Fierabracci is on bass.
 9. Hi Nik, I have an LS-2 I'm thinking of selling. Excellent condition, only gigged once, complete with box and instructions. Let me know if you'd be interested in it.
 10. Yep, I'll be there tomorrow night.
 11.
I think it's a nice idea in principle, but surely it wouldn't really be anything like plucking a real, full-scale bass string?
Of course it would feel different, but what we are looking at is a compromise for where it is not possible to practice with your full-scale bass. I gave the situation of being on a tour bus - I have been known to get some practice in by visuallising a fretboard on my seatbelt!
His little finger's almost over the fixed point at the end of the string, so it's going to be virtually impossible to make the string move with that finger. He's just going to lose skin trying.
I can't speak for the intentions of the designers of this particular practice tool but for my own ends I would not be looking to make the string move, after all I'd not be trying to elicit any sound from the device but merely work on the coordination of my fingers with string skipping exercises etc.
On the Pocket Picker, your two fingers are spaced apart by about 10% of the string's total length. The string will feel very different at those two points. If you use the Pocket Picker to achieve evenness of touch, you'll have re-trained your fingers to cope with the miniature scale, so you're going to be boned when you pick up your bass.
I know what you are saying and I would want the string as taut as possible to try and minimse the difference in tension along its length. However, I don't think this would be the right tool to use to work on evenness of touch as you can only do that by listening to and comparing the tone that you are producing with each finger - that is only something you can acheive with the real instrument.
 12. Actually I've thought on numerous occasions about making something like this; would be useful when you're out on tour to get some practice time in on the bus.

 17. Shame I missed this.
 18.
Additional fun; Lars from 'Spiral Architect' used a GWB-2 on their debut,
Not true I'm afraid, he used a Steinberger Q4:
There has been some confusion about the bass, whether I use fretless on the album or not. To end the confusion – I use a Steinberger Q4 on that record all the way through, and it’s definitely fretted. This is the story: That bass has actually a very ‘hard’ sound to it. That’s great for certain things, but can also be limiting. Anyway – in order to create more variations to my lines, I started to experiment with different approaches to simulate fretless bass. My goal at the time was to create a ‘hybrid style’, thus getting the best from both worlds. I used no effects in order to “accomplish” the illusion of a fretless bass. Basically I just tried to play more legato. For instance, one thing I did was to play a lot of parallel octaves in order both to get that richer ‘fretless-sounding’ sound and the desired glissando feel: Listen to the first half of Moving Spirit for extended use of this ‘technique’. It’s reminiscent to using an octaver. Since then I’ve bought myself a fretless bass, a Gary Willis signature. I use that one in the new project with Steinar. I also have the fretted version of the same bass. As of now I’m not sure which bass I’ll use on the new SA. Perhaps a combination? Time will show.
Anyway, back to your original question, I own both a GWB1 & 2 and can confirm that the specs are the same except for the finish and of course the frets.
 19. Hi Ritch, Sorry for the late reply but I only saw your post today. A damaged JamMan, with the memory upgrade but missing the pedals and manual, sold on eBay.com 10 days ago with a 'Buy It Now' for the equivalent of £228 so I'm going to stay at £200 thanks.
