1.
Great day, but gutted to have missed the Bootsy Bass - whose was it? Too much nice gear to single out a favourite, but I must mention s_u_y_*'s vintage P. Finally a P that felt right, was not too big, balanced well, sounded great, and was not too heavy. Why was mine not like that! With all the talented playing going on, how about some kind of master-class thing, for next time? Thanks again to Nik, Merton, and Walman
Good idea - I was thinking that a masterclass (or two) would work really well next time.. Bernie Goodfellow said that he might be able to tempt Laurence Cottle down if we give him more notice next time...
 2. Enjoy that feeling Josh, it's something definitely worth maintaining if you can... Sounds to me like it coincided with the arrival of your MTD and if it did, then it's no surprise as that's an amazing bass! I had a Tobias Classic 5 for a few years in the early 90s and it was an amazing bass too.. As for me, I'm very happy with my present crop of basses.. My Roscoe Beck 5 is my main gigging bass and I love it, both tonally and how it feels to play... I have a USA Jazz 5 as my back up and that works really well for me as a pair of basses to gig with. They have the same string spacing and similar necks, so to swap from one to the other is so easy.. Otherwise, I have an 80s BC Rich Eagle that I use for one number in our set at the moment and it sounds great.. My Wal is on a 'sabbatical' from gigs at the moment whilst I figure out how I want to use it. I've also just acquired a Status Groove 5 too from Merton and I've wanted one of those for a couple of years, so I really am sorted out bass wise.. But there's a few nagging doubts I have about my rig at the moment which won't go away, especially after seeing what was there around at the SE Bash on Saturday! I am very happy with my SWR Triad but think I could do better than my Peavey T-Max in terms of it's weight, tonal flexibility and it's noise levels.. For the gigs I do, it's really good but I tried Coasterbass's Eden Navigator and it was fabulous, as was CK's Shuttle... Choices, choices.... Never ending stream of choices..
 3. Hi Folks Adrian Ashton from Bass Guitar Magazine did a briliant talk for us at the SE Bass Bash on Saturday and as well as doing that, he very kindly left us will a pile of back issues of the magazine that he said we could use to raise a bit more for the coffers! So we shifted some copies at The Bash on the day but there's still a load more that we have.... So, I thought that if anyone here on the Forum is interested in any of these back issues then perhaps they would like to make a donation for them of say £1.50 for each magazine, plus some money for P&P. That way we can help bump up the total figure of funds raised from the event. How does that sound?? The issues available are: 2007: May/June Bruce Foxton cover (7 copies available) July/Aug Stanley Clarke cover (3 copies available) Sep/Oct Lemmy cover (4 copies available) Nov/Dec Glenn Matlock cover (5 copies available) Nov/Dec John Paul Jones cover (4 copies available) 2008: May/June Peter Hook cover (7 copies available) July/Aug Charlotte Cooper cover (7 copies available) Let me know if you're interested at all and whether you think £1.50 is a fair price? If so, we can start to move them all on and that'll help raise another £30-£40 or so for the two good causes.. Thanks! Nik
 4.
Nik, can you PM the paypal details? Russ.
PM sent.. Thanks for the support Russ!
 5.
Unless someone just up the road buys one first, eh? Of course, the G&L or one of Alex's cabs might come first... Kidney anyone? - One careful owner...
You have plans then it would seem Mr Lager?? Sounds interesting....
 6.
What a great day! Sad I missed the other talks because I was too carried away seeing how my cabs worked with the multitude of amps there - yes, that rumble coming through the wall was probably my fault - but I had a fantastic time and am thrilled that my own ramblings were of use, it's bit different to talking to an audience than playing a load of BritSkunk(tm) at them! Everyone was so cool, but we are bass players, what do you expect? (Can you imagine it working as well with drummers, guitarists, or heaven forbid - singers!!?) Alex P.S. CK - am attempting to defeat my Shuttle GAS - fortunately have just listened to a new gig recording where my tone was pretty damn righteous - but it's soooo small and cute and loud and fat, etc etc etc...
Great talk Alex and thanks very much for doing that for everybody! Mind you, talking about your loud cabs, I think I learnt as much about speaker placement with the rumble coming through the wall from your cabs as I did from your talk! I share that Shuttle GAS with you and also for Coasterbass's Eden Navigator set-up.. Didn't get to hear Andy's Hartke either so I'll just have to wait until next time
 7.
Marvelous day - +1 thanks to SilverFox and everyone else who had hand in organising it. Shame I had to leave early! Personal highlights were the talks by Jon & Bass Guitar Magazine guy (forget his name?) & getting to play the ACGs on show. Great to meet everyone - and sign me up for the next one. I'll bring the upright and F-bass next time too. Did anyone pick up a double guitar stand? It got lost between the room & my car as I was coerced into playing a couple of celinders before I left by CrazyKiwi. For those who care, I'm the copper top in the 'okemo' top.
Hi Dougal, Glad you enjoyed it! Yep, I picked up the double guitar stand and have it here with me on the south coast.. Question is - how best to get it to you? Nik
 8.
nik bought my Boss FT2, great bloke to deal with, paid instantly, all good thanks very much
Cheers Steve, appreciate the feedback.. feelings reciprocated etc, etc! Nik
 9. Thanks for all the contributions so far!! As the guys did at the Yorkshire Bash in the summer, we've decided to let the Raffle for the Jazz Bass run for another week here on the Forum to see if we can get the raise just a little bit more..... So we'll keep it going until next Sunday evening and then draw the winner the following week... Hope that's OK with everybody and thanks for the support? Nik
 10. Just about awake now!! What a day that was... Got to say huge thanks to Mert & WalMan for helping to plan it and make it happen on the day!! A lot of people said to me they thought the venue was really good and that's all down to Merton for getting it sorted, so well done Mert! Really must thank the Holiday Inn as well because the two rooms were excellent and the hire fee was 'minimal' considering the quality of the rooms and that's because our event was for charity! Big, big thanks to Adrian Ashton, Joe White, Alex Claber, John East (with Michael on bass) and Bernie Goodfellow (with Russ & Deborah) for giving us their time and expertise - everybody was superb! Can't forget OBBM for helping to get John East & Adrian on board and also JohnnyLager for doing the same with Bernie and also for helping get the rooms set-up in the morning, so thanks guys! I didn't see anywhere near enough gear because of running around like a headless chicken most of the day but there was some really fantastic stuff in the room!!! Dougal's collection of basses were lovely, as was CK's pre Ernie Ball Stingray and Mert's Status and WalMan's Wal and G&L.. Best of all was everybody turning up and making it happen.. Nice photos by the way CK and thanks for appointing Sylas as honorary photographer on the day (he did a good job too). As the guys did at the Yorkshire Bash in summer, we decided on the day to run the Jazz Bass raffle here on the Forum for another week as we feel we could raise a bit more that way.. And when I've worked out all the maths, I'll let everyone know what has been raised. Thanks to everybody for their donation of prizes and for buying the raffle tickets.. See you at the next one! Nik
 11.
I just noted that you posted this on the Wal Yahoo site. Very nice! I wish you the best of luck?
Hi Mike Looks like a really nice one, doesn't it? We have our South East Bass Bash tomorrow in Surrey - shame you're not here in the UK as it would've been great to see you! Hope all's well with you...

 14.
Just checking, is the bash open to non BCers too, got a friend who plays a bit wanting to come along.
No problem as far as I'm concerned; a good opportunity to recruit more players to the Basschat cause.. Anyone else got any objections?
 15.
I'll bring one, if anyone would like to borrow it let me know.
Thanks CK!
 16.
I have the spotlights ready, plus the Pearl and Dean theme
Thanks for the offer of help guys.. Possible there I think.. But let's ask John when he arrives what he is happy to use.. Hopefully, Bernie will have come up trumps and it will not be an issue! The BFM vs Claber fight should be good.. Sorry to hear Clauster & G-77 can't make it..Hope everything works out with the card clone thing Nick (F****** B*******!). By the way, if anyone has a decent digital camera to take some photos with tomorrow, it'd be a real help.. I stupidly left mine in Shoreham this afternoon and haven't time to go collect it before tomorrow.. Thanks and see you all tomorrow. Nik
 17. Guys, John East needs to use a really transparent rig to demonstrate his pre-amps tomorrow and I have asked Bernie Goodfellow if he can bring an EBS combo for that, which he said was cool. But if for any reason Bernie can't make it, gets delayed or some other problem occurs, is there anyone coming who has a rig that John could use for his talk between 1pm and 2pm? I would offer my Peavey T-Max and SWR Triad to John but it just isn't transparent really... Any offers? Thanks.... Cheers Nik
 18. Hi Folks The donations or tickets bought for the Raffle currently stands at £80 for the jazz bass (which has a RRP of about £85), though not all of the pledged monies have been received as yet. We always had a reserve price in mind and we're a way off it as yet.. But I am hopeful that we will reach the reserve at The Bash tomorrow, especially if people could please :- 1) confirm their pledges if they haven't yet paid 2) help to get this figure over £100 by midnight tonight!! Come on guys; it's all in aid of 2 really good causes one of them being our very own favourite bass guitar forum of course!! The other good cause (which is the charity I work for) is called 'Enable Me' and it works in schools to challenge and change negative attitudes towards disability.. The reason this work is necessary is that there is so much stigma attached to disability! So much so that, on top of the disability itself, most disabled people suffer from the negativity and stigma that they encounter on an almost daily basis.. For anyone who's interested, read the tragic story in the news this week about the mother who killed her own 4 year old daughter who suffered from cerbral palsy, because she (the mother that is) couldn't cope with the stigma of her daughter's disability! So rather than live with that, she drowned her... http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/7632200.stm It's just shocking... Anyway, I'll get off my soap-box now... Many thanks for your support Nik
