2.
This maybe old news as ive been away for 3 weeks... http://www.gbguitars.co.uk/
Looks a lot better than the old site, even though it's not complete yet. The 5 string Spitfire is gorgeous....
 3.
Now I have reached a place of enlightment (and poverty) so I now know what I want.
Is that it then; you only get the enlightenment with the accompanying poverty??
 4. What's the stereo power amp - any more info on that please?
 5.
Cheers. That was when I could play Scared the bajeezus out of me!!! Recipe 1) Take your master tape on metal spools 2) Place in oven & cook on very low heat for approx 3 hours 3) Leave to cool completely 4) Put on tape machine & press play 5) garnish with EQ compression & serve with a light white wine But it worked & 22 year old tapes that were a swine to transfer first time around seem to have come out all shiny & new
Does it work for very old bass players as well??
 6.
When the Roscoe Beck V arrived I was just in awe! it instantly felt like I was being re-united with an old friend, it was great. To be honest I am so so happy with it and glad I have found a bass for me, even thought the last bass I thought I would click with would be a fender V.
Exactly the same for me when I got my RBV last October.. only ever had that before with my Wal!
 7.
Resurrecting this thread briefly as I have recently found a load of multitracks from years back and having had them baked managed to get them converted to digital so I can re mix them - in the case of a couple of tapes for the first time properly as we had a major change of style shortly after ther were recorded when the keyboard player left. Anyway, getting to the point, I seem to recall someone asking what the passive Wal Pro's sounded like. The tapes I am working on at the moment were recorded in 1986 so I had the Wal Pro1 but am 99.99% certain had done nothing to it as yet - certainly the actives did not get put in until 1996. Attached is a short bass & drums only clip of my Pro 1 in its original single pup / passive glory. If I remember rightly it was recorded DI'd with no amp, and all I have done now is add a touch of compression and a very light mid cut. Strings would probably have been Ropewounds or Elites (if they were produced that long ago) and played with a plectrum (as I only started using fingers years later)
Sounds great; nice tight playing too! That baking technique works really well, obviously....
 8.
Bump from a terminally skint GAS ridden fat bastard for a great looking bass!
That deserves a place in the Basschat famous quotes section... Great bass too
 9.
Sorry if this is incredibly off-topic, but you have the bigger brother of my lil leopard! Nice to see I'm not the only leopard printed fiend on here haha
Sorry for more off-topic stuff but noirpunk, that's a great photo! (good MySpace too..) Good luck with the sale, Owen!
 10.
It had to be done. Excellent deal & Tony, the guy selling it, was a really nice guy!!
Glad it worked out for you Joe! Tony was very pleased with the deal and was equally complimentary about you...
 11.
Sadly until I pay off credit card I can't start working on my end of the bargain! Plus added some positive "complications" which I'll explain in Sept when I see ya...
Very cryptic... Have sent you a PM as we're heading rapidly off-topic!
 12. Recently bought a case from Russ for my RBV and as well as the case, he threw in a free gig for me and my kids at the Bognor Rox festival!! Unbelievable generosity... Really good band too!
 13. That's a very nice looking bass! Is it me, or did JD 'borrow' some design ideas from Pangborn?
 14.
I regret selling my MIM Jazz 5. Well, no I don't, I regret not taking out the J-Retro when I sold it. Fool! Hopefully I won't regret selling anything ever again but at some point I suspect a bass or two, plus a rig will have to go (Actually, one bass will definitely go depending on when I can afford the Streamline 5er and when Nik can persuade Mrs Silver Fox to allow a Groove into the home!)
I'm working on it Mert..
 15. Excellent basses these; I had an '82 model myself a while back and the quality was as good as any 'Fender' I've played.. Good luck with the sale!
 16. SOLD - thanks for all the interest folks
 17.
ok, I kinda get what's being said about EQing bass to the kickdrum (I understand that they're there to compliment each other) but does that mean trying to make your bass sound like the kick drum (e.g. kinda boomy/wooly in the case of my regular drummer) or to compliment it, like the way the snare and a tom sound when hit together?
No, it's not about making the kick drum and the bass sound the same, it's about making sure that they work well together. In simple terms, if the kick drum is tuned really tight and punchy then it's better to e.q. the bass guitar frequencies lower to provide the warmth and low end.. And vice-versa of course.. Obviously, there's more too it than that but it's about these important elements in the rhythm section working together in a complimentary way.
 18.
F*** off. We're the People's Front of Judea..... Great Bass. Have a bump on me.
Cheers Still available!!
 19.
There is a lovely story dating back to when Van Halen were supporting Ted Nugent in the early days and TN wanted to know the secret of Eddie Van Halen's sound. So he tried his gear out and sounded like ..... Ted Nugent!!! Ref: eqing the bass vd bass drum. That may apply in rock etc but, in jazz, you are better off eqing against the ride cymbal as it can kill your sound if you don't get it right.
Good story! Doesn't matter what type of music you play, there is always a sonic relationship between the different instruments in a band setting which can be ruined by poor use of e.q. or improved by sensitive use of e.q.
 20. Just bought some strings from Pete; second time I've dealt with him and just as before, a perfect transaction! Look forward to the next one.. Cheers Pete..
 21.
Oi - stop trying to form a splinter group - you've got a bass bash to organise!
"Excuse me. Are you the Judean People's Front?"
 22. All PM's replied to! There's certainly quite a few Basschatters down here in West Sussex and quite a few over in Brighton so maybe we should organise a get together sometime...
 23.
i think even with shipping and duties this might be worth a punt for someone. Seller doesn't indicate that they'll ship to the UK though. Chris(?) Nightingale used to work with Bernie Goodfellow I think, hence the similarity with Goodfellow basses. Here's the ebay link
You don't see them very often, that's for sure. Weren't they made out of a workshop in Denmark Street at one time?
 24.
have a look, might be good for someone local - big rig! http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Bass-Amplification_W...id=p3286.c0.m14 ben
I like the way the guy says "..to be uplifted from Edinburgh" The sale must be to pay for some back surgery.....
 25.
The Bass Cellar are, in my opinion, everything what's wrong, vile and odious about music shops. As someone said, if the place were on fire, I wouldn't drop my trousers! So to speak. Incidentally, I know a lot of people here are aware of this, but new members may not be. On the counter, there is an A4 sign, stood up in portrait. On this sign, it says: Want a bass? Short on Cash? THEN DON'T WASTE OUR TIME. Those disgusting cretins!
That sums it up perfectly! The sad bit is that there are so many shops like the Bass Cellar out there that it makes the fun of trying & buying an instrument that much harder to experience. Fortunately there are some good places, The Gallery in Camden is an example of how well it can be done. Local to me, the bass department in GAK is pretty good too. It's because of these awful shops that we should be grateful for the For Sale section here because it is a much, much nicer way to buy and sell basses!
