We were all set to do a video when the Coronavirus kicked in so I put this together using live footage and quite a lot of post production so it's not exactly a lockdown video but the lockdown affected how we made it. Yes I had foam cut to fit the bass and it's removable so I can add another insert if I'm taking something else.

I've had a bass safe and it was pretty good but I saw it launch like a missile out of baggage carousel which was a bit nerve racking. I just use proper flighcases now but they are very heavy.

I’ve been upping my hitherto non existent practice regime on bass and double bass. For the upright I’m using a smaller bass, a little smaller than a half, it’s at home and very convenient. It’s maybe a moot point because I’m only striving for adequacy but is there a potential that it might hamstring me when I get back to the 3/4 or is all practice good?

Well it looks like I’m still in the market for a bass and The MIJ Bass Collection 5 is in poll position. The one offered was great but just not what I was after. Fretless or fretted if anyone has one or sees one please send them my way much appreciated!

I’ve never heard of them really ludicrously cheap.

I’ m not completely into the way it looks but you can’t fault the price. I’ve had a couple of Yamahas in the past and they were great.

The Sandberg looks great but a bit pricey and I saw a second hand Spectorcore for less but around £800 is probably my max. I’m unlikely to gig with it but I’d like something comfortable to play.

All this working from home has made my eyes wander towards a new bass I don’t need. I’m currently thinking about a lightweight and not too expensive 5. Does anyone have any recommendations? Not hugely keen on the ibbies with the tiny headstocks but don’t mind modern looking, quite like the look of the Spectorcore but I’d probably want fretted and haven’t seen any reviews of the fretted version and I’m a wee bit concerned it might be a bit semi acoustic and old school.

Hi Anon, thanks for the reply, great to hear you had a good experience. I think the inventor, Alun Jones died quite suddenly and the company stopped trading. He invented the Ashbory bass (I’ve spent the night googling). I bought two unused twin transducer versions so looking forward to trying them out.

Hi Has anyone got info for or experienced of an Ashworth Electronics AJ301P Double Bass Transducer. Just picked one up. I know they went out of commission a while back but very little info available.. All the best S

The rubber ripped almost immediately but Thomann gave me a few quid off which was good. But otherwise it's really great.

I ended up buying this and apart from the rubber being a bit thin it’s excellent.
