  1. That looks great!!!!......
  2. Sometimes I prefer the closed look but each to their own, I suppose some people need all the help they can get!!!
  3. +1 I only started building my first one last October and now I’m working on my 3rd and 4th and starting planning my 5th (If I had the money I think I’d be on about my 10th by now) That’s half the fun of it each one you do (hopefully) gets better as your experience grows, also all mine are seriously on a budget I think my most expensive one to date is about £90 except my next one (Pine Streamer style) I think is going to a bit more than that once I’ve bought everything Enjoy doing the build and then sit back and bask in the glow of your finished custom bass.....
  4. I’m probably not going to have a pickguard so I think the contrast with the rosewood would look better......
  5. Bit Harsh!!!! Don’t look at the build I’ve just finished and my PBass build you might end up having a stroke!!
  6. I’m thinking of putting the MM pickups in this build instead of my p bass build so it will look a bit like this But after seeing @BrunoBass‘s Orange P Bass I think that’s the colour I’m gonna go for But I can’t decide whether to go for a Maple or Rosewood fretboard??.....
  7. I’m having a rethink at the mo I think I might just put the standard split coils in this one and save the MM pickups for the tele shaped bass build instead??🤔
  8. Thanks @Andyjr1515 and @ezbass The top ain’t bad for a bit of £5 Pine from my local builders merchant!!
  9. Thanks @Jabba_the_gut, @Pea Turgh and @BrunoBass I’m really happy with the way it’s turned out
  10. I don’t know if it’s a viable option for you but you could replace the covers with closed ones then the pole spacing wouldn’t be a problem?.....
  11. I’ve got it virtually finished just got to string it up and it’s all done I think it looks loads better than the white body In hindsight I probably should have spaced the knobs a bit further apart but hey ho it’s all part of a learning curve I kinda like the Chrome I might no bother changing to Black........
  12. You’ve done a proper tidy job of that looking really good!!....... But Bigwan is right them knobs have gotta be changed!!!
  13. Good luck!! I’m the same as Jez not my style bass but sounds like an interesting build, very intrested in watching it progress
  14. Oooohh new builds coming up I’m excited already
  15. Go for it!!! It’s such a cheap way of making a bass the way you want as you already have everything..... Hopefully next week I’ll be able to get back on my P Bass build (‘72 style pickguard with MM pickups)
  16. Got some more done over the weekend Belly carve, control cavity and headstock sanded all done now, sanded the whole body down to 240 grit ready from the poly finish which I’ll start tomorrow after I’ve drilled the controls out I was going to change all the hardware to black but with starting a new job funds are a bit tight so I’m going to reuse the chrome but I might change it a later date......
  17. All three look stunning mate!!!! I thought my Jazz bass was light at just under 7 1/4lb it must feel like you playing air being that light.......
  18. @BrunoBass after seeing your P bass!!! I can’t get out of my head how cool this build would look in Bright Orange but I’m now tempted to not have a pickguard
  19. I prefer a satin finish when having a painted finish but when I did one with a gloss finish I used meguiars ultimate compound polish as I found it not as harsh as t-cut
  20. Yeah I’ve got some scrap so I’ll give a coat to see how it looks, I’m hoping that the difference in colour between the sap and heartwood shows a bit more when I clear coat it......
  21. Well that’s quite lucky that I can solder (Also I can Arc/Spot, TIG, MIG and braze weld) and have a decent soldering iron so it shouldn’t really be a problem
  22. I completely agree with you, I always use car paints aswell I find them a lot more forgiving than Nitro
  23. Looking good!!!! I’m really liking the Orange
  24. Thanks I was really happy when I found that board in the shed as it was really clear of knots and the fact it’s got a slight difference in colour between the sap and heartwood was very appealing to me I’m not sure whether to leave it completely natural or stain it down slightly to a maybe a light honey colour??......
  25. I don’t see why it won’t be a nice playable bass that you can gig if you take the time to set it up properly
