Yeah your right! I've kind of gone with option 2, I've stripped the fretboard off it as thats still in good condition and I've started making a replacement oak neck that I'm going to use on another build with any other parts I can salvage The body is in half decent knick so I'm probably just going to sell it on....... 👍🏻

I took the neck and tuners off and layed it flat on the table the neck is properly twisted, if you look down the neck (from the heel) it twists about 5mm clockwise! According to quite a few videos on youtube thats the best way for it to twist as you can still have a playable guitar? I think the first job will be restring it and try and get the action as low as possible then check all the notes down the neck to see if it buzzes or chokes any notes? If it doesn't then I can just leave it but if t does then it looks like I've got 2 choices? 1. Take the fretboard off plane the neck flat to take the twist out and refit the fretboard? 2. Throw the neck away! Does anyone else have any other ideas?........ 👍🏻

I did take the pickguard off and had a look but it's all black but I'm going to strip it apart tomorrow so I'll have a better look but because of the weight of it, it feels too heavy to be basswood or just any basswood bodies I've ever had anyway.....👍🏻

I got given a 2000 Indonesian Squier P bass today thats definitely seen better days One of the problems with it is you can feel one side of the skunk stripe on the neck from the heel to about the 12th fret I've checked it and it doesn't look warped or twisted so I was thinking of just sanding it back smooth and refinish the neck or would it be best to try and glue it back? Also it's probably got the most convincing Fender logos I've ever seen Another thing is I couldn't get over how heavy it is (its easily the heaviest bass I've got!) I've tried to find out what the body is made out of but I couldn't find anything, I looked in the cavity and it doesn't look like its ply don't suppose anyone knows what it might be??

My gut is saying black but as this is for my little boy I thought I'd better give him the choice? and he chose natural just with a bit of danish oil on it.......... 👍🏻

The body is all contoured and stained I decided to do a pine cap on the headstock so it matched the body and all the or tuner holes are filled so I'll be drilling them out tomorrow.... I can't decide on whether to leave the pickguard natural and just danish oil it or do it black? Opinions please........... 👍🏻

I think this build is coming together nicely..... I decided to darken down the top and back then keep the pickguard natural....... 👍🏻

Pickguard cut, just got to chamfer the edges now and stain it, Making sure everything is going to line up which it all looks good........ Next job start contouring the body and fill the existing tuner holes ready to re-drill them when the new nut arrives....👍🏻

I've done a size comparison this thing is tiny it feels like a uke........ 👍🏻

Yeah thats right but I'm going to fill them then get some maple veneer and cap the front and back.....👍🏻

My little boy really wants a bass so I've decided to try and build him one! Being only 7yrs old he struggles with a standard short scale so I got given a crappy Burswood 3/4 sized guitar that in going to convert into a 24" scale bass So I started off with a template of a standard sized P bass then scaled it down till it looked right also making sure the neck pocket size is correct and the scale length will work out right too..... It did come out quite a bit smaller...... Here's the donor guitar And here's what it will hopefully look like? The body blank is gluing up at the moment so hopefully I'll get started cutting the body tomorrow........ 👍🏻

Just purchased joblot of tuners, knobs etc from Pat Very helpful, the stuff was well packaged, fast delivery, very smooth transaction would happily buy from him again!!....... 👍🏻

I got the top cut today which I'll use as my template, and cut the pickguard I still need to fine tune it and thin it down but I couldn't resist doing a mock up......... 👍🏻

This build is now going to be a 5er instead with a single soapbar pickup with chrome hardware I'm gluing up the blank now its Pine back with Oak top, the pine is going to be stained a bit darker I've got some tinted Danish oil that is a medium brown so hopefully it will look quite nice the pickguard is going to be ply again more than likely stained black....... But who knows...... 👍🏻

There's a change of plan with this build its going to be a 4 string with the MM pickup and chrome hardware The 5 string neck and soapbar pickup are now going to be used on the P-Rick build because I think the neck dive was going to be awful with this being a 5er Im going to do a mockup in the next few days..... 👍🏻

So do I! I'm thinking of doing one with MM pickup aswell but I really need to start selling them and not keeping everyone I make........ 🥺 Hopefully now I've goty bandsaw, thicknesser etc it should make my life a bit easier...... 👍🏻

I think this looks better? I'm going to darken the top down so it kinda halfway between what it is now and the pickguard colour as I think its a little bit too light? 👍🏻 Oh yeah and I've made and mocked up my firecaster build I would put it on guitarchat but there never seems to be anyone on there!!
