A good friend of mine lent me his TE combo and I think he wanted to sell it (he might have given it to me tbh as he is really generous) but the weight of it was unbelievable. I need to be able to move it round often up and down stairs - I’m strong having worked in manual jobs and sports and I nearly caused myself permanent damage moving it!

It also came with an extension cab……

if it wasn’t  for the weight and lack of a headphone socket I would have it in my house now.

Aye, I rarely have the need for an amp - 99% of my gigs are IEM's - I'm a big lad so I don't mind moving my TE about every so often, but weight is a definite consideration if it's something you will be carting about every week!

I think we'd really need to know you budget to give you better advice. The extension amp for your gk is £350-£400, so if that's out of your budget, I think you'll struggle to find a good quality, lightweight but loud set up for less than that, that's much better than your existing GK.

  2. You could always wait until an old trace Elliot 1x15 combo appears on marketplace. I've just purchased one for just over 100 quid and it's unbelievably loud and sounds incredible. It's maybe not a sexy choice but for price vs quality don't think there's a better option.

  3. If you like it

GK used to do combos with what appeared to be powered slave cabs.  Might be compatible with your model?  That would give you the same sound but more of it.

    edit:  here it is…

If you like the sound of your current set up, then this is exactly what I'd do! If you're needing more than that at a gig, then you're likely going to have a PA which you'll be running through anyway! That would be an outstanding rig.

  4. You've probably seen this kicking about the classifieds for a wee while for not alot of money. Over the weekend I decided just to take a punt on it.

Got it delivered today. First impression is that its HEAVY. I don't think I've ever owned a combo this heavy.

But.. it sounds tremendous. Had it in a rehearsal this evening with 2 guitarists playing rock covers and it more than easily handled it. Clear, defined, punchy but has incredible bottom end available with just a tweak of the EQ.

The size and weight will probably mean this will only get whipped out when it's really necessary.. but for just over 100 quid, I highly doubt you could get a better giggable amp.

Very happy with It.. so much so I'm tempted to hunt down a matching  extension cab to get that wall of TE.. for this special occasions.

  5. I've always wondered about this. I would find an eq quite handy on the output, as I know my speaker set up is not particularly accurate! I know I could get a hardware eq, but having it inbuilt would be very handy!

The Roland rubix range does not have this.

    No worries.

And if you use your phone/tablet in landscape mode, the buttons should take up more space maybe?

You're on fire! ha! It's better, but not ideal. Ideally the control buttons would take up the majority of the screen. Any app we've tried likes to allocate the majority of the screen for artwork, which is ashame, even on landscape. But it's definitely better than how we've currently been working it!

  7. Hello! My band have introduced some backing tracks to our setup. It's the usual set up,  click to the left into the drummers IEMs, track to the right to FOH. This is controlled off of either an android phone, or an android tablet. The music player we use works fine (music player plus) apart from two things. The control buttons take up a tiny bit of the screen, and it doesn't seem to allow us to stop autoplay - it just goes onto the next track unless we stop it manually. I've tried VLC and a few others, all seem to have the same issues

So, anyone know of any apps that do these two things: Allows us to play 1 track without it going onto the next track automatically, and has a GUI that has  play/stop/rewind buttons which take up a bit more of the screen to make it a bit easier to control on the fly?

    Cheers

  8. Synth.

Good entry level synth. Functions perfectly other than a couple of broken keys and a button that needs some attention but I believe these are easily replaced and fixed. It's old, so is a bit manky but a good wee project for someone.

Works well as a midi controller (as how I've used it even with the broken keys) but also has lots of 90's presets. I've never delved into the synth side of things. I bought it 2nd hand around 2002, so it's weird to be actually getting rid of this!

Priced as 'faulty' due to the keys. Surplus to requirements so grab a bargain!

Not willing to post, so collection or meet up within the scotland central belt for a few quid petrol money.

  9. I have the pedaltrain Nano+. think i paid 25 quid second hand. rock solid construction, and with wee feet extenders, I can put a DI box and power supply underneath. I honestly can't see how it could be improved on!

  10. Loved this! Guy Pratt is an absolute legend, that octave sound he has is outstanding.

Regarding who id like to see next.. definitely pino or flee..or Norman Watt-Roy.  But even guys like Paul Turner could be interesting, he's played with alot of people and would be good to get a good close look at his playing.

  11. For me the key is use eq sparingly. Toovmuch of any frequency does more harm than good.  Mids are key but that doesn't necessarily mean automatically boosting them. You might find your amp and bass  provide sufficient mids with the eq flat.. that's what I do most of the time!
