Absolute talentless tool. Him and his enabling sidekick. I came in about halfway (I’ll try and catch the first part on catchup if it’s there) and I was underwhelmed. Having read some hilarious anecdotes about Rockfield in the Deke Leonard books, I was hoping for better.

Back in 2014 my band was booked to play a wedding in Brittany. The crossings and gig were organised by the singer and our keyboard player borrowed a large school transit bus and drove us there and back. The drummer was on holiday in France at the time and would meet us at the gig on his way back, we took his kit with us. Driving down the A303 towards Devon and the Plymouth ferry and the singer announces that she hasn’t brought a microphone! It’s not always the drummer.

I find this for all outdoor gigs on the whole. Ones I’ve done in the past all seem a bit removed from the audience and them from you I guess. Still, if it gets you out playing, it’s all good.

Ah, so it is, damn that inversion! 😂 Not dumped the VTDI per se (I still have it, at least for the time being), but since I've added a compressor, there's no room for it on my Nano+ board. Also, as I'm playing fretless way more, I don't need the grit I was using it for.

Did an outdoor, stripped back gig in the drummer's garden that we live-streamed. It was a bit weird not having an audience other than the local inhabitants (do they count as an audience given that we foisted ourselves on them, rather than them coming to see us?) and felt a bit like a rehearsal. However, it was just nice to play with people in 'meatspace' rather than collaborations online. I'd do it again.

How do you find the Mooer Micro DI? I'm thinking of adding one since my VTDI was removed from my board.

Well it is Basschat, it’s what we do.

I think the only talking you out of this would involve a hard backed chair, some gaffa tape and a rubber hose. You’ve made a good case and it’s not like you’re going for a full one, US made expense fest.

This is a conundrum, especially in our band where certain members are pro, some are semi pro and others are technically amateurs. My band had a rehearsal and then live-streamed a gig from the drummer's garden at the weekend. He consulted with neighbours and put flyers round locally. It was a stripped back, acoustic (but amplified) type affair. I was very conscious of the volume, but it seemed to go OK in terms of not annoying the residents (at least not too much, there are always those who will not like it, but it was mid-afternoon and only for a couple of hours, so nothing for environmental officers to get involved in).
