  1. You could drop a G&L pickup in it, although that is probably covering the same ground.
  2. Just read about this on the BBC. Another really influential bass player gone within a week. People tend to mostly associate The Smiths with Morrissey & Marr, but AR was such a big part of the sound too.
  3. Two gigs in the space of a week for me! Tonight was Rich Hall in Birnam. He was both very, very funny and very clever. The second half was musical fun, with C&W as the basis; highly recommended.
  4. Games Without Frontiers - Peter Gabriel
  5. Belfast Polka - Richard Thompson
  6. You May Be Right - Billy Joel
  7. My Generation - The Who
  8. Bruce Thomas gets an awful lot of love, quite rightly, here and is always associated with the P bass. However, I just found this image, whilst searching for info on another player. Good on yer, Bruce.
  9. Ooh, er, Mrs!
  10. Novel, but I understand, from those in the know, that the strap over the front of the upper, rear bout, alleviates the problem somewhat.
  11. Hungry Like The Wolf - DD
  12. As a stand alone song Chris Cornell wins for me. I remember seeing Casino Royale at the cinema and being blown away by the title song and realising it was CC. My other votes (I had 3) went to the 2 OHMSS options because of the marvellous JB strings.
  13. Today I shall play along to Babooshka as a tribute.
  14. OHMSS and YOLT are very similar.
  15. It’s John Barry at his stylistic best. I like the way David Arnold used certain JB motifs, when he took the musical reins. You Know My Name is full of JB type horn arrangements and lines.
  16. I so want this to be wrong .
  17. Quoting myself, I know, very déclassé. Just spoke with the man, down to just 2 these days.
  18. Nice to hear that neck pickup and judicious EQ being used, thus negating that nasal tone often associated with fretless.
  19. Nice to see a CAR as opposed to Fiesta Red for a change. Me like. GLWTS
  20. I always preferred Ted’s playing.
  21. On the upside, I saw Ashbone-U-Wish many times and they were always great. Full disclosure, the members of AUW were/are good mates of mine, but that didn’t influence my opinion. The bass player, an occasional BCer, actually depped for Bob Skeat on one of the WA tours; he is a man of many T’birds.
  22. I never saw them with the original line up, or with Laurie. However, I have seen the 2 versions of WA probably more than any other band. Unfortunately, I’ve always been underwhelmed.
