  1. I’m wondering if Labella flatwounds are as good as everyone says 🤔 ...

I havent used Chromes in ages as I really dislike their tone so I couldn't really make a comparison but I initially tried the FL set which was really stiff before moving onto the Extra light FX set which was much more manageable

  3. Bass meant to be arriving tomorrow, paid for premium delivery, not arriving until Tuesday. Disappointing, DPD (disappointing premium delivery).

That sucks, speak to the people you brought it from, they should be able to give you at least a partial reimbursement on the shipping

  4. Oh man another bass with issues😡 .  Frets are tarnished, I gave them a vigorous wiping with a damp cloth to see if it would come off and no joy, I am reluctant to order the 1200 grit and start working on the frets on a new bass in case I bodge it

Ok so I have tried the polish on 1 of the frets as a test and it has removed the tarnish but the fret that I have polished is a silvery colour whilst the other frets seem to be naturally a kind of slight brass colour, is this something I should be worried about?  I am guessing not since abrasives would be used during a fret dressing that would have a similar effect ?

Thanks, I have some silver polish I'm going to give a try, I figure with how soft silver is it should be fine for polishing up some frets, fingers crossed that it works

Thanks guys,  T-Cut sounds interesting but not sure how available it will be in my local area, whats the consensus on Brasso and/or Silvo ? Are these ok for frets or is it too abrasive? thanks

thanks, is pretty bad tarnish (frets are kind of browny black colour on the tarnished ones) do you think it would work for that?

  9. Wow, Prosteels may well be the worst strings I have tried, its like having the mids on -15 with a boost in the bass just to further emphasize those missing mids

perfect for being drowned out in the mix, I kept the Daddario on for all of about 2 hours, I know some people say you should let strings break in and if these were flats I would agree but I like a bright bass tone and rounds to me always sound there best when they are fresh on.  Newtone strings on the other hand I cant say enough good things about, its just that 2 week wait for strings that sucks

TBH I think they've been dreadful since Peter Hook left, restless was a good song, the rest have crap

Trust me I won't be complaining if/when it snows, you can always put more layers on if it's cold but if it's 30 + degrees there's not much you can do about that

  12. Just started a new course of antidepressants...

I couldn't function with the previous ones - these supposedly have fewer side effects but the list is far from short...including a deterioration for the first 5 days!! Minimum course is 6 months.

The thought of this is making me depressed.

Been on several different ones myself, many with horrific side effects, finally on one that I am ok on, makes me put on a tonne of weight and eat loads  but I can deal with that, good luck

  13. My band is learning "It's my life" by Talk Talk, so I've re-learnt it some 36 years after I originally learned to play it :)

Am learning this one at the moment, have played it before but am learning it "properly" now and its amazing how much ive been playing wrong, when learning a song the mind has a tendency to fill in the blanks with the most conventionally pleasing notes but when you go to actually learn something properly you find that the original bassist does things like dropping a note a semitone where you wouldn't expect it to create a bit of discord.

I owned a Fender Musicmaster bass years ago and got rid of it after about 3 years, I got it for £75 which admittedly was a bargain but the bass itself was dreadful, it must have weighed about 14ibs, had one of those dreadful two saddle bridges, the cheapest pickguard and the only way i can think of describing the tone is "murky" it had very little high end and strangely not much low end but it seemed to have a lot of the muddier mid frequencies, the tone control did almost nothing.  Now on Ebay there are Musicmasters going for nearly 1.5k !!! Insane amount of money when you can get a Mexican Mustang bass which is a much better bass for under £600
