1. I'm in Edinburgh until very early Wednesday morning. If anyone spots any unstoppable collection only bass bargains, please tell me
2.
Go a little further £450 and you are into Warwick (German) territory. I am very pleased with mine. At the other end of the scale my Warwick Rockbass corvette 5 string fretless was only £150 s/h. At that money you get an ebony fingerboard and superb build quality.
Ebony fingerboard? How does your bass sound? I have a Rockbass Streamer Standard (passive) and I find the pickups a bit weak. The Corvette is active isn't it? The OP might want to consider a Harley Benton fretless Jazz bass, as it's about the cheapest option if buying new. I'm considering one myself. But on here I've seen it said that people either love or hate the ebanol fretboard on the Squier VMJ, and after one try out, I definitely like it. £100 for a Vintage Icon fretless is a real bargain.
3.
Surely the trick with these is to wait for them to appear on ebay - £100 new = £30 second hand(??). You can justify that for a toy..
Harley Benton basses in general seem to retain a fair proportion of their new price. I've never seen one on ebay, but I wouldn't be surprised if a HB uke-bass sold for £70. A lot of sellers put HB basses up on ebay for their new price or more, but I haven't seen one sell at this. I"ve seen a Tanglewood Traveler bass sell for £100 on ebay, but I've also seen one sell for £150. They are quite a bit larger than the uke-basses, which might be an advantage. I've sort-of tried a Kala U-bass in a shop, and it made almost no sound at all. I'm not convinced that I want one, speaking personally.
4. Oops! I posted the same link twice. When I click on yours, it takes me to some RS series basses. Maybe the Ibanez is using cookies, or perhaps our respective computers have been possessed by the spirits of undead civil service administrators or something. EDIT: Now I get the front page of the catalogue too.
5. Thanks Jon. The thought of buying it did occur to me. But if it's of unknown provenance then it could be good, or it could be overpriced tat. BTW: The Ibanez catalogue link in your post is for the RS series. I hunted around and found the correct (previous) page here: http://www.ibanez.co.jp/anniversary/expansion.php?cat_id=75&now=1 http://www.ibanez.co.jp/anniversary/expansion.php?cat_id=75&now=1 The 924 may have more extensive electronics, but I don't like the look so much. The upper horn looks odd to me. If you're keen on me buying a classic era Japanese fretless, you may have made a strategic booboo by mentioning that you liked the Squier VMJ Fretless. I tried one and really liked the feel of the ebanol fretboard. That's what's stopping me buying the Harley Benton J Fretless, as I've been curious about the Harley Bentons for a while.
6.
'Course not - the bass is a Musician copy, someone's stripped the headstock face (no doubt to remove the original logo) & presumably stuck Letraset on it, or something. I'd guess the face would've originally been stained to match the body wings, in fact I think you can still see the remnants of the stain still in the grain. A real Musician would have had a veneer to match the body.
Is the bass in this video a real Musician then? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VnejLmQGYhg Edit: Now I've seen the video all the way through, the logo is too long for an Ibanez I think. It still looks 1970s/80s Japanese however, and now I want to know what it is. Damn me and my curiosity.
7.
Fretless Ibanez Musician copy! http://www.ebay.co.u...s-/131226139499 Now that's a weird one. No idea what it actually is, seller says it's MIJ but I'm not sure. Never seen pots like those before on anything, wiring looks tidy enough to be original. Still, £225 BIN if anyone fancies a pretty unusual lookey-likey. J.
Is that a real Ibanez logo on the headstock? It looks a bit hand made to me.
8. Interesting looking instrument. I wonder if the pentacle is original. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Rare-Semi-Acoustic-Vintage-Bass-Guitar-Hollow-Body-upgraded-Humbucker-p-ups-/380937623127?pt=UK_Musical_Instruments_Guitars_CV&hash=item58b1a6d657
9.
Seller is a BC member, same name.
It was at this point that my memory finally started functioning: http://basschat.co.uk/topic/237501-cheap-but-worn-mij-bass-collection
10. Shaftesbury Les Paul style bass. If I was less lazy I'd compare the shape to the Jedson posted a few posts further up, and therefore by implication to Jon's unbranded bass. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/VINTAGE-SHAFTESBURY-LES-PAUL-TYPE-BASS-MIJ-JAPAN-70s-WORKING-RIPE-TO-RESTORE-/321442695774?pt=UK_Musical_Instruments_Guitars_CV&hash=item4ad77a4a5e Said to be 'ripe' to restore. But it looks OK to me, just old. Reasonable starting bid and reasonable postage means that it'll make its true value.
11. This might be from the wrong decade, but IMHO this Bass Collection SB310 is very reasonably priced if shipping is included. If it was fretless, it would be mine. http://cgi.ebay.co.u...ME:B:SS:GB:3160
12. I still see it as the burl, though I can see how people would think chipboard. IMHO the similar looking fretless on the Shuker site looks even better.
13. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Shuker-Artist-6-string-chambered-light-weight-Delano-piezo-p-ups-Hardcase-/161345427373?pt=UK_Musical_Instruments_Guitars_CV&hash=item2590efd7ad IMHO this is gorgeous!
14. I thought this thread was going to be about bass-style MIDI controllers.
15. I presume this is the RBX250F rather than a defretted RBX250. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Yamaha-fretless-bass-guitar-/221469685583?pt=UK_Musical_Instruments_Guitars_CV&hash=item33909f374f I'm vaguely tempted by this. But, I think this is more of a budget model than the RBX260F, which I have played and enjoyed. And, Buxton is annoyingly a bit too far to go for pickup. I'd go there if there was something mega-bargainlicious, but it would take me all day to get there and back. This Westone fretless Thunder initially looks tempting, but it's a defret. The close up photo makes it look as if the defretting has been done quite well, but even so I must admit I'd prefer a factory fretless to a defret. I'm tempted to lowball around the starting bid price, but I'm just coming down on the side of 'no' on this one again. While, as stated, I don't think I'll go for either of these, I'll just post here in case anyone has some direct experience of basses like these and wishes to argue that I should change my mind. (Note: my budgeting strategy is that if I don't buy a fretless now, the budget I have for one will get bigger).
16. This is the kind of purchase that makes the ebay forum worthwhile. Enjoy!
17. I bought myself a houseboat. But when I walk out of the front door I get all wet. If I complain to the council do you think they will have to drain the canal?
18. This listing now seems to prominently say OLP, and has a £156 starting bid. So, in this case the seller has eventually improved their listing. I've seen OLPs going for less than £156 though. Delivery still high though.
19. C'mon. Spill the beans! And don't forget the photos!
20. Nothing particularly notable here. Like a few other modern basses, such as the natural Aria IGB-68, I look at these basses and think 'nice'. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Esp-ltd-D6-6-string-bass-/111384604061?pt=UK_Musical_Instruments_Guitars_CV&hash=item19ef0a2d9d
21. £246 brand new here: http://www.gak.co.uk/en/yamaha-bb414-orange-metallic/16370 EDIT: Discontinued, not available at that price. Only completed listing I could find on ebay was an auction where the bass sold at £123 including a hard case. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Yamaha-BB414-Bass-Guitar-including-Case-/331184596176?pt=UK_Musical_Instruments_Guitars_CV&hash=item4d1c23e4d0
22. Jedson LP bass with bolt-on neck. Quite detailed list of what's wrong with it, which doesn't seem to add up to all that much. Except, what's that bolt on the heel of the neck? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/jedson-bass-/171360230376?pt=UK_Musical_Instruments_Guitars_CV&hash=item27e5dd9be8
23. Well done Moos3h, that's an amazing bargain. After you collect it, can you tell us if the rumours that the sellers are 'interesting' (big dogs etc.) are true?
24. Good luck with the sale.
25. I googled, and there are different models of SR900. I found an ibby forum thread where someone mentioned all the SR900 variations that had been introduced and then discontinued. These apparently would have small differences, which could explain why the ebay one might look different from Flat Eric's base. One notable characteristic of the SR900 is the thru-neck, and while it's less obvious with the black finish, I can see stripeyness in the ebay bass's headstock. The bass here looks a bit similar: http://basschat.co.u...5-ibanez-sr900/ Did the £100 ebay bass have barts too? Surely those pickups alone would be worth £100. EDIT: "Best Offer Accepted"?!?!?!?!!?!?!?! Even more edits: According to goofbid, the seller accepted an offer of £85! EDIT: Not an SR900 for £100, but a Fujigen SR800 with a very low starting bid, http://www.ebay.co.u...=item19eee0cbcf and reasonable postage.
