1. I've never seen a Warwick (Rockbass) like this before. I presumed that it would have been discussed here, but a quick search didn't find a previous thread. This sells for the equivalent of £202 brand new in New Zealand. That compares to what appears to be a no-name PJ copy selling for £167, or a Squier Affinity selling for the same price as the Rockbass. Rockbasses seem cheaper over there.
2. Kasuga precision with £80 start bid. £120 BIN, but I don't know how much these go for. Cream single jazz pickup = DiMarzio? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Kasuga-Bass-Guitar-Vintage-Precision-/321416146449?pt=UK_Musical_Instruments_Guitars_CV&hash=item4ad5e52e11
3. This is an interesting and (as far as I know) original looking bass. I've never heard of anyone using brass or another metal for fret markers. Is that common? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Electric-bass-guitar-/271505544818?pt=UK_Musical_Instruments_Guitars_CV&hash=item3f36fdd672
4. @Green Alsatian - if the bass had been fretless and you'd put it on for £120 posted, then there is a fair chance you wouldn't own it now Those offers are just ridiculous. Though, I put lowball bids like that on ebay listings all the time, so maybe I shouldn't complain. But I think it's a bit different when you actually make an offer, rather than just bid low.
5. I avoid using the term myself. I do know that Japanese people themselves don't like the term "Jap", and that is enough for me to not use it, or "JapCrap" personally. (if anyone searches, I've probably used it at least once.) I don't interpret the usage on this forum to be intended to offend, but that it is ironic usage as Jon says, and I'd agree it's a term of endearment. However, I feel that it wouldn't be a bad thing or over the top PC if we found a new phrase to use, such as "classic MIJ era" for the instruments. Or, we could canvas the opinions of some Japanese people on the matter, and see what they say.
6. I wonder if the general market impression of Bass Collection basses has suffered a bit as there are so many low end PJ copies of them. Like the Stagg BC300.
7. I'm thinking of the other thread where you were saying that your BC SB310 compared quite well to your very high level other basses. And it's on for £120 posted! OK, so it's got a few chips or wear marks. But everything that's actually important to playing seems to be in good nick. That's beginner bass money for something that compares to much higher level stuff.
8. Given that £120 includes shipping, this is as cheap as chips. Bit worn and with minor damage however. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Bass-Collection-SB310-SGC-Nanyo-Bass-Guitar-Made-in-Japan-free-shipping-/111359996469?pt=UK_Musical_Instruments_Guitars_CV&hash=item19ed92b235
9.
That's impressive - where is it?
It's the Croft car boot sale. But it's on the corner of the B4114 and Broughton Road, so not very near Croft. Or, using modern technology, it's about here: https://maps.google....ingdom&t=m&z=15
10.
More on Ishibashi: Riverhead headless bass Interesting take on the Thunderbird design from Navigator
The lower horn pointing the "wrong" way on the Riverhead bass took me a few tens of seconds to get used to. But, now I think it's one of the best looking headless basses I've seen.
11. MyHermes completely depends on the local person doing the delivery. At the moment, we have a person who is reasonable. However, many people have had nightmare interactions with MyHermes. Personally I'd be prepared to tip our delivery person £1 each time (which isn't much, but quite a bit more than they get from MyHermes) if they would text or email us when we have a package so that we can tell them when they're available.
12. How long would it take you to record the bassline? I can get you free recording time in a quality studio in Leicester, but you'll have me engineering. I've used a M-Audio Fasttrack Pro interface for some years, and it very much seems to do what it says on the tin. There are quite a few bits of free software available. Pretty much anything will record and allow you to do simple mixes. The differences between them are going to be in more advanced functionality. E.g. if VST plugin effects are supported. If you're on Mac, you might want to consider Ardour. It has a bigger learning curve than simpler software, but can be used for very sophisticated recording. Hence the time spent learning it might be worthwhile. Unless this is going to be a one-off thing.
13. Junk bass advice may be quite important soon. The other week I was going swimming and was going through the countryside. There was a utterly huge field full of cars. When we got closer, it was an utterly massive car boot fair. This photo from google images doesn't do it justice IMHO. 44803951.jpg Can I phone you at 6am on a Sunday if I find a misshapen lump of wood with "Made in Japan" on the neck plate?
14. Brilliant! I"ve been looking forward to learning this song, but found tabs of it a bit difficult to follow. I'll be studying your video with full attention once domestic duties are complete.
15. Good point, Davebass. It's nice that over time we learn which brands and basses are the hidden gems that might be real bargains. But I fear that my middle aged memory is such that as I learn of one bargain, I forget another brand or model.
16. Excellent1 Happy NBD!
17. I agree with Kodiakbear concerning the Tune & Washburn bass. The Tune looks really nice, but the Washburn looks a bit silly. @HowieBass - maybe the pickup cover can be removed, returning the bass to stock.
18. We keep seeing ebay listings claiming that old firewood is now highly sought after by collectors. Just in case any of those collectors do exist, here's a Jedson bass for £75. http://www.gumtree.c...970s/1062183122
19. For some reason, the pickup cover being the same colour as the body ruins the visual effect for me. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Cort-Curbow-Active-4-String-Fretless-Bass-/231232695016?pt=UK_Musical_Instruments_Guitars_CV&hash=item35d68aeae8
20. I know that the USA Peaveys are worth more than the far east built versions, but are they really worth this much? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/PEAVEY-CIRRUS-4-TIGER-EYE-QUILT-TOP-MAPLE-FRETBOARD-BASS-GUITAR-USA-/191178000831?pt=UK_Musical_Instruments_Guitars_CV&hash=item2c8318c9bf
21. As well as making it do the basic looper stuff, I really want to add some fancy stuff to this looper. I've now seen this demonstration of infinite verb: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qv9QWoHCFhQ And oh yes, do I want to add some sort of infinite reverb to my looper. I hope that modifying freeverb or another reverb methodology (I've forgotten the name) to make an infinite 'verb will sound like that. The sounds here sound not just verby, but chorused. That might be a natural result of the delays used to create the reverb. Otherwise, it's easy to write chorus effects in software. Though, I hope I don't have to write a full real time convolution reverb to make this work, as that's very far from easy.
22.
Did you get your feet wet?
As I'm a member of the River and Lake Swimming Association, I would be more concerned about the bass getting wet than I.
23. Jon: When I saw that you had posted in this thread again, I presumed it was to tell us that you had gone and bought it
24. It's not often that I see a bass guitar on ebay, and the first thought in my mind is "I've played that bass". http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Manton-Customs-Sirius-4-String-32-Scale-Bass-Guitar-Custom-Luthier-Hand-Built-/271489112955?pt=UK_Musical_Instruments_Guitars_CV&hash=item3f36031b7b Manton Custom bass, as seen recently at the Midlands Bass Bash!
