1. I've seen these go for as low as £40. Once upon a time I was considering one of these, and an owner on here (can't remember who - sorry) characterised these as being better than Squier Affinity basses, though not as good as the Vintage Modified/Classic Vibe basses. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Aria-STB-series-Bass-guitar-and-stagg-bag-/331075370321?hash=item4d15a13d51
2. This is near to me, such that I could pick it up. It looks interesting, but I don't think I need another four string fretted bass. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Azumi-bass-MIJ-/321258624580?pt=UK_Musical_Instruments_Guitars_CV&hash=item4acc819644
3.
I'm sure that the salesman in my local Ferrari dealership can see my frustration when i look at those gleaming cars in the showroom at what i see as unrealistic prices but guess what? He won't reduce those prices.
I was specifically talking about unrealistic prices that the market won't bear. If your local Ferrari dealer is priced his/her cars at normal prices (for Ferrari cars) and selling them at this price, then this is an entirely different situation from someone who is listing a Harley Benton bass for £150, when the exact same model is £100 new from Thomann. E.g. Jon Shuker sells his custom basses at prices that are more than I feel I can justify paying for a bass right now. But, I still think his prices are entirely reasonable for what he sells, and clearly he's able to sell them. Nobody's criticising basses being sold for what they are worth, they are talking about rolling their eyes when basses are listed at entirely unrealistic prices.
I just 'advise' them to place a bid - if they're right, nobody else will bid and they'll get a bargain.
That doesn't really apply if your starting bid is £150 for a bass that costs £100 new.
4. Surely we could use 'stereo bass' as a code-word. I thought we weren't meant to link to actual sales. £325 seems very high for a bolt on. That's a lot more than a neck through stereo bass that I own cost.
5. I have never sent such a message, and don't plan to. However, there are auctions where the price is significantly out of whack. E.g. second hand items being sold for more than the new price. Items listed for double what they normally go for, or more. I just roll my eyes and move on, but I can imagine some potential buyers being frustrated that an item they would be prepared to pay a fair price for is 'available', but at an unrealistic price.
6. Low start price, very low postage. I hope this goes to someone with the skills and time to give it the TLC that it needs. http://www.ebay.co.u...=item1c39275aef
7. I've wanted to have a go using the GPIO pins on the Pi for a long while now, so this will be my excuse. Once I work out which MIDI library to use (portMidi seems to have problems according to some people but alsamidi won't run on my mac forcing all development to be on the Pi), then I hope to use a 'learn' function such that MIDI controls can be used instead of buttons. That would allow me to use my Korg micropad (or whatever it's called - drum pad thing) as a controller.
8. These are el-cheapo basses. But, I do like the look of these Jazzes. I prefer the natural ones a bit more, but the solid colour ones are a bit less like those already easily available elsewhere. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/J-D-JB-Vintage-1975-Bass-Guitar-Surf-Green-Reference-201561-/251382796640?pt=UK_Musical_Instruments_Guitars_CV&hash=item3a87951160
9.
They're thinking exactly the same as you are with your £100 bids.
The £100 bids usually stay winning a bit longer though I enjoy looking to see what I'm currently 'winning', and feel disappointed if it's currently nothing.
In the past I've used really low bids instead of "watching" the item. The reminders and notifications you get for eBay are different (and harder to miss) for an item you've actually bid on.
That's a good point. I have found the emails I get when I'm no longer winning that Shuker fretless 6-string for £100 a bit strident. They seem to be written to encourage, erm, panic re-bidding and 'I MUST BEAT THEM' attitudes. OMG! I'M NO LONGER THE HIGHEST BIDDER!!!! HURRY!!!! BID BID BID!!!!
10.
How're you getting on with this? I picked up the same bass but in black today, did a quick shim which made it much, much easier to play. I must admit I prefer the sound acoustically more than I do through my amp but I'm still learning what I can get out of it. Not a bad bass for £65
I haven't progressed at all since my last posting. I use the bass as-is with the cardboard pickguard held in place by friction. At present I'm so busy that I'm unlikely to do anything more with this bass until December. What spare time I have I'm spending on my DIY looper project. I'd need to use equipment at work for the pickguard, and at the moment when I get to work I'm submerged in work. But, it will happen sometime.
11.
Are you sure you aren't bidding on one of those Wal post cards?
If so, I'll do my best Judge Judy impersonation. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iNrwd8X3jeA
12. Time for this is short, but it now handles stereo input or mono input. And, it can import mono or stereo samples into individual tracks. One thing I forgot was to have any way of capturing live performances. So, I've added that. A stream to disk can be opened, and then anything playing (unfortunately including the metronome - harder to fix than it sounds) is streamed to a .wav file, for ... whatever purpose. The main problem is that saving loops doesn't work. There's a really nasty bug in there somewhere that I can't fix, and the file saved which should contain all of the loop is corrupted. I think I'm going to end up writing that function again from scratch. I can see the data being corrupted, but for the life of me can't see what's causing it. This 'thing' however has been used for a lot of looping today. Problem it, it's exposed how clumsy my timing is when playing. Got to work on that. But I've just had fun building a major key solo around 'twinkle twinkle little star'
13. Damn, I would like a cheap fretless. But this is a bit too far for me to go. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=380773417623&fromMakeTrack=true&ssPageName=VIP:watchlink:top:en (And of course, the sale price might not be cheap. But it's a HB which don't seem to actually sell for much and it's a 99p start).
14. I've seen Wishbass youtube videos. But on threads like this I like hearing the sounds made by forum members. No particular reason why, I just do. Nice looking refin. on this one. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Np8_Etibv9Q
15. Do you have any youtube videos or online recordings using your Wishbass?
16.
Hi Rick, Im not dumb but I wouldn't know the first thing about fender necks. How about sharing your knowledge so its more 'common' and I can feel less dumb. thanks.
After a previous thread, I googled how to tell a fake Fender. The conclusion I made is that it's very difficult in some cases. A separate neck is easier as you can see things such as the truss rod which are indicative. Similar for the neck pocket. But I found threads on the Fender forum discussing how difficult it was to tell in some situations.
17. Another Aria Pro II Cardinal Series bass. 99p start, so it'll sell for the correct market price as of this time. Anyone who is after a CSB at the moment seems to be spoiled for choice. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/ARIA-PRO-II-BASS-GUITAR-CSB-380-RED-FULL-SIZE-22-FRET-USED-/171175246554?pt=UK_Musical_Instruments_Guitars_CV&hash=item27dad6fada
18. Maybe one day my £100 WAL will come. But I'm pretty sure that no-one is going to win a WAL or similar for 99p within my lifetime.
19.
It's cheap entertainment ...
That's why I do it. But I find it more entertaining if there's a bit of money on the table. I couldn't be very interested in a 99p bid.
20. I put stupidly low bids on a whole lot of stuff. E.g. I've just bid a bit over £100 for a WAL. I've never actually won with one of these bids. However, there are people who bid lower, much, lower. E.g. for the WAL I'm beating out two other bidders even though the bid has only risen to £26. What are people thinking when they bid £0.99p (as one of them did) on a WAL or similar expensive item?
21. J&D basses are sold by companies such as DV247, and some headstocks etc. look suspiciously like some Harley Benton basses. I've seen the basses that seem to be inspired by Aria Pro II basses online, but never in real life. DV247 doesn't sell the J&D bass as in the listing above. Perhaps it's an old model. If I see one in real life, I'll give it a go. A shop local to me had a Toby Pro bass, which also looked quite Aria Pro II inspired. (And is probably upmarket compared to the J&D bass).
22. SB700, surely. I appreciated the seller's courtesy in telling me it was gone. For quite a few gumtree ads, I send off a query and hear nothing in return.
23. http://www.gumtree.com/p/for-sale/aria-pro-sb-series-bass-guitar-hard-case/1038747406 I replied instantly I saw this, but I was already too late. I have to revise my SB700/800/1000s to check exactly which model it is, but I would have bought it regardless.
24.
According to the annoying eBay popup, seven have been sold in the last 24 hours. Perhaps we should just wait a month or so and see if they pop up second hand? If none of them do, then either they are gorgeous or they are killing their owners... (Is that legally actionable? I do not speak for BassChat, nor is BassChat responsible for my opinions... )
After a number of them have been sold, there should be reviews appearing somewhere on the net. I'm not sure that the following review should be taken at face value. http://polar-bearric...-IGN-RockSchool
Hello everybody. 25.
How is this guy still in business!?
Second hand wood, not much finishing, and he sells loads of them. Did you see the one made from an old piano where you could still see the marks from the internal struts? I thought that looked pretty funky and interesting.
