New editor

Does anyone know how to do this, so you can see the actual tags, rather than in preview mode????????? Maybe it isn't possible at all? (Unlikely, I would think as that would make it the dumbest forum software in the known universe! )
  2. Ped, how do you put the editor into raw mode? This would be really helpful for things like this.

    PM's

Pending deal info..... I don't remember anyone saying that every PM was going to be lost with the migration!

    PM's

I don't know what to say.... other than while I appreciate your efforts, if you are going to migrate to another platform, it is really helpful to migrate to something where a FULL migration is possible.

    PM's

Can you not just make the old site available via a separate URL, with no new content posting allowed, for a transitional period, please? I understood that the only potential hickups in this migration were going to be with images and some tag changes. It would be useful for me to be able to back-up locally the things that haven't been migrated like PM's.

    PM's

Guys, PM's haven't been migrated. If it isn't possible to do this, can I please have access to the old site so I can get some of the messages. I have someones contact details, someone I need to contact in a PM.

    New editor

How when I make a post with the new editor, do I put it into "raw" mode so I can see the tags or type them directly. ie. without it being in preview mode? I can't seem to find a way to do it.
  8. The intro post mentions something about seeing how long you have left if you've bought a £20 for-sale..... Manage purchases shows nothing for me.... Is this not carried over from the old site?
  9. Also seems that other stuff has been lost in the migration.... Profile picture/avatar.... Location..... I've just added mine back.
  10. How do I get my followed content back..... It seems to have been lost with the migration to the new site.
  11. While I really like the RD "shape", I've heard stories about the weight of the originals. And this re-issue, with the maple body.... I'm smelling a 12lb bass!!!! We'll find out as soon as sweetwater get 'em in stock and weigh one, I 'spose.
  12. As with everything, you need to take it all with a large pinch of salt. Is he 100% correct about everything.... Nope. Is he entertaining.... Hell, YES! Yes, his having a "dig" in the direction of Rics, pressed a few peoples buttons. But here's the thing..... I'm willing to listen to his thought on Rics.... Why? Because he spent his own money on one. Took it on the road, toured it. Therefore to me, his opinion is valid and has weight. YMMV. Whilst his approach to things setup and repair related, maybe at times, slightly "unconventional", I'm sure a lot of people who knew nothing about setting-up a guitar or bass, having watched some of his videos, know a great deal more about it than they did before, and have learned a few basics from him. And anyone who was doing what he was doing back in the day, gets my respect. Poodle perm, sprayed-on trousers and black P bass. LOL. If Dave's pressing your buttons, just watch a couple of mins of the VT mime-along to the song "Fortune Teller", Diamond "The Hardest Rock On Earth". After which, you won't care about all the "verbal" stones he's lobbing at your precious Ric! And for me. it's kinda cool that he still gets out and plays, when he's not in the basement "gooching" guitars and doing his special effects day job, most recently on the second season of The Expanse, IIRC. (Albeit, minus the dodgy hair and slinky strides. ) I think the most recent video of him playing was back in 2014 when he was gigging with Luke and The Apostles, Luke & The Apostles-Tika.
  13. Best of Dave's World of Fun Stuff (Funny Moments), also worth a watch if you've not seen it.... LOL
  14.
This man is an absolute idiot! It is a real worry that people would watch his output and take him seriously... Opinions?
I'm not sure I'd go as far as calling him an absolute idiot! He can BBQ a steak, that's for sure! Is he 100% accurate with everything he says and does.... No.... Does he normally end up with a good result... Yes! I watch the "Pretend-o-caster" video at least once a week. It's probably my favourite Dave video. Has me in stitches every time I watch it. Fender Pretendocaster Setup DISCLAIMER: I'm wearing a "Dave's World of Fun Stuff" T-shirt whilst typing this. LOL.
  15. Oh and another thing purchased this year, which deserves a special mention, because I still can't figure out how such a great sound comes from something so small and light...... Barefaced One10 cab, which I now have paired with an Ashdown LB30 head, and use as my front-room practise amp.
  16. Bass: Gibson 2017 EB IV (that I wasn't expecting to be sooooo playable) Head: Ampeg V4B. Wasn't expecting too much from the Gibbo EB IV, but it's become my "go-to" bass. And the Ampeg V4B re-issue head..... It's the tone that does it for me..... Specifically, the 6L6 tone. (KT88/6550 amps sound too "hi-fi" and EL34... too soft...)
  17.
I have a big nose. Would you entitle a video of me playing some heavy dub bass ' Big nose, Big sound', and if so, why not?
You have a big nose.... But if I point out that you have a big nose..... What, I'll be "casually objectifying" your big nose? If I think you have a big nose, I'm just as likely to comment that you have a big nose...... Suggest you post a sound-clip rather than a video, if you want to avoid comments on your appearance.
  18.
The fact that you clearly don't see the problem, and don't actually make a real point, other than to express incredulity, speaks volumes.
There isn't a problem! You guys are making one where there isn't one! The OP complimented someone on their appearance, their playing, their instrument and their composition! That's it! Nothing more, nothing less!
  19.
This kind of casual objectification of an individual is unacceptable and needs calling out.
Seriously???????? In the opinion of the OP, the physical appearance of the person featured in the video he posted is stunning...... And, you guys see this as "casual objectification". From someone who lists his interests as "fags and pies and that...", no less. Is this for real?
  20.
You're assuming that the male who you spoke to is straight, and has the same visual preferences in women as you do. Your use of 'cute' is unlikely to help him if, privately, he finds both receptionists 'cute'.
Yes, I was assuming he was straight. Bad me! And yes, I was also assuming he wasn't completely blind, because "cute" sure as hell wouldn't have been referring to the other receptionist, who looked like she lived on a diet of creme cakes, weighing at least 100kg, a hairstyle that was last fashionable in 1962 and a face that could curdle milk. Straight, gay, bi-sexual, metrosexual...... His orientation wouldn't have mattered! There is no way anyone else on this planet would have used the word "cute" to describe the "other" receptionist. And no way, that anyone hearing the word "cute" used to describe one of the two receptionists, could mistake the other as being "cute"!
I'm suggesting that calling someone cute in a situation where their appearance has nothing to do with their professional standing is inappropriate in todays world, yes. You think otherwise?
Yes, when I describe someone as "cute", "attractive, "pretty"...... It's a COMPLIMENT! I'm not coming-on to them or harassing them, I'm complimenting them on their appearance!
Again, assuming that just because you're talking to another male, one-to-one, allows you to refer to women in a particular way, however harmless you think it is, is again part of the problem.
I don't see describing someones physical appearance as "cute", "attractive" or "pretty"as being a problem to start with. So, I don't think we are ever going to find any common ground......
  21.
How would they know what 'cute' meant.
The person who asked me to describe her was male! He would have known exactly who I had spoken to if I had only used the word "cute" to describe the receptionist.
A product of their time simply means that years ago, well up until relatively recently, someone would have been much less likely to be challenged for referring to someones looks in an irrelevant or inappropriate way, especially in professional settings.
So you are saying that describing someone as "cute" is irrelevant and inappropriate in the world we live in today, even when asked by another male, (in private), to describe the physical appearance of a female? Would it be OK to describe a female as "attractive" or "pretty" when asked to comment on a females physical appearance? ie. is it just the word, "cute", that has some connotation I'm not aware of?
  22.
It's demeaning because you did so in a context that has nothing to do whatsoever with her looks or her gender, it demeans her musical output to refer to how she looks first and foremost even if you effetely caveat it with her musical skill.
Eh??????? I have no idea whether the "cute" dental receptionist even plays a musical instrument......
  23.
I'd be chuffed if somebody referred to me as 'cute' (which isn't likely to happen!). Is it beyond the realms of possibility that the receptionist in question might be equally pleased if she knew? Or would she consider it a coded message for something sexual, sinister and diminishing?
Yep, I don't get it...... In my mind describing someone as "cute", when asked to describe their appearance, is a COMPLIMENT. Only in the fracked-up world we live in today, could it be considered to be sexually demeaning!!!!!!!!!!!!
  24.
..... make it relevant or appropriate to refer to someone in their professional capacity as 'cute'.
I wasn't randomly referring to someone in their professional capacity as cute! I was specifically asked to describe her physical appearance! I don't have a photographic memory! It was the best I could do to describe her 4 weeks later, from what I did remember. I remembered the blonde hair, soft voice, couldn't remember specific facial features, just that her overall appearance was pleasing to me, and suspect would also be considered by most other males to be attractive, so I used the word "cute". PS. I'd still like to try and understand what you meant by, "a product of their time".
  25.
The fact they didn't deem it necessary to enquire as to her name when dealing with her is one thing (regardless go them being male or female), but when they asked who they dealt with, presumably in a professional situation, didn't think it more appropriate to simply say "I'm afraid I didn't ask, but she had blonde hair", a tangible fact, not a comment on her 'cuteness'. Being so acutely unaware of what the issue is there is not that persons fault necessarily, they're not a bad person, but just them being a product of their time.
A product of their time? WTF, does that mean? Is that some kind of insult? And just out of interest, how many other people upon being instructed by the dentist, to book another appointment with the receptionist on their way out, walk up to the reception desk, and immediately ask for the receptionists name? Really? The receptionist doesn't do her job, hasn't correctly made the new appointment, for the date/time she wrote on the card she gave me..... and when I'm asked to describe the receptionist that has screwed-up so they can investigate, I say, "cute, softly spoken, blonde" and I'm the bad guy.... right, OK. Got it!!!!!
