  1. Hi folks,

Some advice Having sold a guitar on Reverb to what appears to be a guitar shop (as opposed to a private buyer), they have asked for a refund, telling me several frets are slightly unseated (0.2 - 0.3mm).  I never noticed this, and wonder if this is a "I don't want this anymore and I need an excuse" or if it is a genuine issue. I'd have thought such an issue is easily remedied with gentle hammer work (especially for a dealer).  I stated the frets and electronics were in very good condition, seeing as there was no wear and the pots etc all worked fine.
I set a 'No returns' policy for the sale.
This is why I don't like dealing outside the realms of the good people of BC!

    Advice welcome.

  2. Hello all,

After a couple of successful gigs with my new band, our guitarist (rather knowledgeable with all matters technical) has pointed out that PA upgrade would be advisable at some point. We sounded decent, but the rig the main band after we played had a slightly clearer sound.

So, advice is welcome on a rig suitable for  4 piece band in which I would consider DIing my amp to, then using my Barefaced SM as a monitor for larger gigs. For reference, we have an old Yamaha EMX 630 with matching speakers. It's plenty powerful enough but more than 6 channels and a clearer sound would be great.
2nd hand would be fine, and I'm aware that (much) more than £500 would be a realistic figure.

Sort of related: I have a Barefaced BB2 which I'm thinking would always be better to keep as a second cab for volume and improved dispersion, as opposed to selling and relying solely on the PA.

    Thanks

I put my vote on the Shift Line Olympic Tube Preamp.

It’s a great unit and sounds really awesome. It does the pushed tube amp unbelievably good but it doesn’t do overdriven sounds. It’s the best “clean” preamp I’ve ever tried, and I own a bunch. Le Bass, Tonehammer, SCR-DI, Vintage Ultra & A/O, Hartke Bass Attack I &II,  MXR M-80, 3Leaf the Enabler, Verellen Meatsmoke, Noble, Rusty box and probably a couple more.

It takes dirt really good and the cab sim, especially the 8x10, is fantastic. And the headphones is dead silent, perfect for silent practice. And the whole unit breathes quality. I wouldn’t hesitate buying another if something happened to this.

Good to know. The Mk 3 certainly ticks the boxes for me: headphones, cab sim and good 'cleanish' tone.

I got in touch to ask about the Mk3 and they're back in stock next month....

  4. My penny's worth from what I've seen:

Having low and hi mid EQ is rather useful, especially when you've got used to it with GK stuff.
That distortion sound in the video is really nothing to write home about but I'd be very surprised if there weren't other more usable Toneprints. As per the comment about the SA Aftershock, digital OD can be very good - I only sold mine prior to getting a Kemper.

I think the usable compression, headphone option and "sheen" on a sound (much like the BDDI provides) when engaged makes this a good deal; kind of tempted to use it as a travelling practice box and also for volume and EQ boost. I look forward to more videos!

  5. I rather like mine. I use the Fender Super Bassman profile and a few effects.

That said, I've yet to use it live so I can offer my tuppence worth in two weeks' time.

I still flirt with the dark side (guitar) so the Kemper offers a great deal of flexibility.

Do I miss a normal amp and the associated tweaking with effects pedals? Yes, but the convenience for a hobbyist and occasional gigger is important.

I'm still regularly tempted by the amps and effects on BC though!!
