  1. SOLD

    £390

The few I've seen online are going for double this price; price lowered as I'd like to make space for something else while it is still available; I think this is a very fair price for a US Fender rival.

I'd consider trades with cash your way for something like a Non-reverse Thunderbird or P Bass. Try me.

Here's my 1983ish Tokai Jazz Sound JB45 with details as follows:

    - Custom bone nut (39mm) provided by Edge Guitar Services in Bristol
    - 4.1kg
    - Tone pot: Emerson Pro CTS 250k blender
    - Fender gig bag (unpadded) included

Some of the pics show Seymour Duncan QP pickups; these have now been sold, so the original pickups are included (which are rather good I must say).

This has the dings and imperfections you'd expect from a bass this age, which I have photographed as best as I can.  The frets are showing a tiny bit of wear lower down, but not greatly so. I'm happy to provide more detailed images with strings off.
Those who know about this era and brand don't need to be told this is a top quality 60's jazz bass copy that holds its own with Fenders.

Obviously collection and tryout in Bristol would be preferred but I can post at buyer's expense. I've done a video walkthrough (no playing, just closeups): https://drive.google.com/file/d/1n0e-TWyc8aGrwuYSrdBFNoidVRwPlt3l/view

    Thanks for looking!

  2. Off to the USA soon; thinking I should make the most of the price difference for a wireless kit (already got in-ears).  For $250-300 or so it seems to be the Sennheiser range that come up as winners.  I'm not a pro but just want something half decent to mix the PA and my own signal. Advice / previous relevant post URLs I may have missed  are welcome.

  3. 3.5mm with 0.6mm pitch have done the job! Thanks for the advice. They're shorter than the existing screws but that means they don't protrude above the saddles, which is no bad thing for palm muting.

I bought 100 so I now have quite a few spares going!

  4. Hi all,

I'm trying to source a saddle screw for my 1983ish Tokai JB45.  My go-to chap in Bristol is unable to help. It's not one of the modern 3mm diameter ones widely available: 3.39 x 11mm according to the callipers.

There must be someone who has such bits and bobs; I'd rather not have to get a new saddle....

  5. Hi all,

Following some good reviews on here, I recently acquired a JHS Vintage V4 as a spare / something bit different to my 80s Fender Jazz Special (PJ) - original P and Hot Stack J as per Duff M 🙂
It's quite a bass by any standards, let alone in its price range. It is actually a PJ; there are none on the JHS website so I've asked them if this is a) a model they did or b) an owner retro-fitting, and am awaiting response.

So.... I did only get the V4 for a the 'P' function, which sounds decent. The 'J' pickup isn't particularly strong / to my taste (and yes, I've adjusted pickup heights to compensate for output differences).  I'm contemplating an upgrade for one or both pickups.
I generally play rock / 80s pop, indie stuff etc and wouldn't mind something a bit different to the Jazz Special (Which has a less-than-traditional sound on the 'P' pickup, IMO).

The EMG Geezer Butler set seems pretty good, as does the 60 J and 58 P combo from Bareknuckle. Naively, I assume the Bareknuckle '58 P would be fairly similar to the Fender Custom Shop 59 found in the Dirnt sig models, which I'm most impressed by.

Opinions welcome one or both options!

    Thanks

    Interesting.  Thanks for posting.

I've seen this only once before, on a USA Musicman SUB bass that I own.  It was easily fixed by a few taps with a mallet, so hopefully it won't cost you too much to fix yours.

    Frank.

It was several frets, so I paid him what the guitar tech quoted. Yeah it could have been a simple bit of malleting but I for the sake of a few quid, the issue has been resolved.
