10. Ok..... 80's Fretless Jazz. SVTCL with 2 SVT15E's Gain 67% / Ultra Lo engaged / Bass 72% / Mid 88% / Freq' 3 / Treble 43% / Master - Venue dependant. Run thru' a couple scales to check for that warm, fluid, seductive sound. Realize I still can't play for sh*t - throw a paddy and whack all controls up to the stops! Works every time for me!

16. Not everybodys' tone - but my SVT CL & 2 X 15" Classic cabs leave that little tell tale stain in the front of my pants every time!
17. Ok – Up for grabs is my immaculate Traynor YBA200-2, purchased new and imported from Uncle Sam in October last year. Reason for selling is that the American built SVT CL I’ve been looking for finally came up a few weeks after buying the Traynor (figures… ) so the Traynor’s got to go. If you’re not already familiar with it, the specs can be found here – http://www.traynoramps.com/products.asp?ty...t=40&id=399 I’ve replaced the Sovtek 12AX7’s & EH 12AU7 originally supplied with the amp with NOS Phillips Cryo 12AX7 & 12AU7 from Watford Valves (about £100 worth). Like many other people, I found the Sovteks broke up a little too early. The new valves really improved the clean headroom and give a warm, warm bass. I’ll include the originals so you can mess about and find what suits you best. On this later model Traynor did away with the self bias circuitry, which I believe caused a few problems and now relies on the more standard ‘probe with a DMM and twiddle screwdriver in appropriate place’ type biasing method. Also, the later model comes laden with four KT88’s to loosen the plaster on the walls of your chosen venue. I’ll throw in a UK to US mains transformer and the flightcase shown in the photos – it’s not a custom fit jobby (s’what the SVT came over in..) but it’s good protection nevertheless. Altogether the amp, freight, duty, VAT and new valves came to about £690. Yours for £460. If you can get over to me near Milton Keynes (during office hours - sorry ), you’re more than welcome to have a cuppa and try it with your own cabs or my two SVT 15” thumpers. Cheers
18.
my fifty pence worth.. ive had an all valve ampeg svt classic for nine years now, and have learnt a couple of lessons i will gladly pass on based on my own experience. 1) buy something with a good established rep, do whatever you have to do to find the money..(i had to sell a bleeding motorbike!! for a bloody bass amp!!) 2) find a really, really good valve tech who will do your servicing and repairs, someone who genuinly knows what they are doing, and only ever let him touch it, and whatever he suggests let him do. 3) buy a good quality well padded flight case, made slightly higher internally so you keep a spare amp base shaped square of foam on top of it inside the cab, and take that out and put it on your cab before sitting the amp down onnit at gigs, to stop the cab vibes transmuting to your valves(dunno if thats a word or not but i like it ) err, thats about it i think. my amp is trouble free, gets as hot as hell at some of the venues we play and gets used every weekend, hard. it always provokes comment on how good it sounds, though the ev loaded 4x10 mesa cab is a big part of that too. i'd like to think it will be the only amp i ever play for the rest of my life, though the weight, especially flight cased, is immense. and the last time i saw colin hodgkinson, even he had given in and was using a markbass... one last thing, ive only had to have a total revalve twice now, but both times using decent matched valves it required a second mortgage.. enjoy..
IMO absolutely spot on! Nothing like the common sense approach! Well done that man!
19. Just bought Annemaries' MIM Jazz Top lady! Even delivered the bass personally (sadly I was unable to receive it in person.. Entirely my fault ) All went really smoothly. Many thanks AM Grahame
