  1. Great guy, came down and delivered the bass himself and gave me a chance to try it out. Would recommend without hesitation
  2. I'd much more happily play with the 59 year old than any showy 20-something. I've had enough of trying to communicate to the flashy ones I'm a bit south for that (Portsmouth) but if I'm ever in London I might just take you up on your offer!
  3. These days yeah, I made the leap a few months back and I've basically only played 6 strings since. Not at the moment, I keep trying to start a band but people my age have a habit of being flakey! Maybe I should find a nice "old fart band" The BBs look cool but I've not had a chance to try one yet
  4. Thanks! Its a TRB1006J. It does, I'd happily have another bass from Japan, the quality is always there it seems
  5. Just had a nice meet up and chat with @alinbassplayer and walked away with this beauty! BTB1206 in natural, such a nice bass to play. A bit more deep and growly than my Yamaha (which snuck into the second pic) and also a tad lighter. Haven't changed the strings yet but already loving the sound
  6. I've not owned a neck through bass yet, can't say I've heard/felt the difference on basses I've tried. Might notice something after I've played it for a while, though I can get that with newer BTBs, the older ones had slightly wider horns which is just right for me. Yeah, Bart pickups. I really like the look/sound of Nordstrands, might look into swapping pickups at some point if it takes my fancy
  7. The scale length definitely helped, I'm a big fan of 35" for the low B. And something about the shape of SRs just doesn't resonate with me, I always think they look better in picture than person. But that of course is completely subjective
  8. I'm buying an old (2007/2008) BTB1206 from a bass-chatter this Sunday, will post pics when I have it I've always liked the looks of the BTB, but hadn't tried one until recently (just assumed I'd be more of a SR guy - tried plenty of those, but never liked one enough to buy one) but boy did the one I try feel amazing. So I just had to have one
  9. My fairly small but punchy rig! I'm a pretty heavy pedal user, so all I need from an amp is clean power, and my little Carvin BX700 more than delivers. My neighbours will attest to the fact that it is plenty loud Don't really use the graphic EQ, but it's nice to have incase a particular venue needs it. And the TC 212 cab is just a nice solid cabinet. The matching colour scheme between bass, amp, and cab was a happy accident (You can also see my custom built Student™ microphone stand. My prices are reasonable, send me a message by carrier pigeon if you'd like me to make you one)
  10. I'm also interested in the Super, those pickup options seem super useful. Very similar setup to the Sire M7 you've already expressed interest in
  11. I would also place my vote here! Love my 6 string TRB, also a 35" scale and the low B is probably the best I've played. Very usable EQ at basically all positions. Plus beyond the EQ there are a couple of options under the hood, like splitting the pickups into single coils by way of internal trim pots. All round quality bass
  12. 18 year old bassist and kinda-songwriter looking to start a heavy sort of band, with lots of dirty riffs, overlapping rhythms, and deep lyrics. Tool's my main influence, followed by Muse, Karnivool, Leprous, Neurosis, Gojira, Toska. I like some of the more classic stuff too, Sabbath, Metallica, Maiden, the works. But I'm not interested in sounding particularly like any band, I wanna forge something new. Based in Fratton, so Portsmouth/Southampton/surrounding areas preferred. I've got gear for gigging and several ideas for songs. Not really fussed when it comes to age or bodily makeup or any of that jazz. Cheers, Kieron
  13. Wow, that colour and finish looks stunning! Sounds really nice in the video, good bit of growl. Honestly if I had the money it'd be mine in an flash
  14. Oohh, now that's playing with fire I don't much like his tone in isolation, but really like it most of the time when it's in the mix in the band. Different strokes eh?
  15. Yeah, I like a pinch of grit for my basic sound. There are lots of preamp pedals out there, off the top of my head MXR do good stuff in a fairly compact size, as do Ampeg, and of course there's Sansamp stuff. There's a real market for that sort of thing. Took ages before I settled on Le Bass Focusrite 6i6, into Reaper
  16. There, much better I think! I even added my Mooer envelope filter And here are some sound samples of various pedal combinations. The Le Bass is always on, even for the 'clean' sample (it's a pretty clean tone) It's all my own music, played on my Yamaha TRB1006J into a Carvin BX700 (flat EQ) and TC Electronic 212, mic'd with an AKG P2. No post-recording wizardry
  17. I know I know, it's awful. I'll sort it out, and I'll try and get some sound clips together as well, as repentance or something
  18. I like this idea, so I'll start with my pretty much stable for now (and currently horrendously messy) board: My signal path is: Bass ----> Donner tuner -> ART passive DI box (only when I'm recording) -> Digitech Bass Whammy -> TC Electronic Vortex Mini flanger -> Boss LS-2 line selector Line A out -> Darkglass B3K -> Line A in Line B out -> SA Aftershock -> Line B in LS-2 -> Belcat tremolo -> TC Electronic Flashback delay -> Donner Verb Square reverb -> Two Notes Audio Le Bass preamp ----> amp (Carvin BX700) I'd say the only time I go against ""conventional"" pedal order is that I like my flanger before my overdrives. It makes the flange more subtle and a part of the overdriven sound, rather than overwriting it. Other than that, everything's pretty much what it says on the tin. I run the B3K and Aftershock in parallel for really wide, meaty distortion. Oh, and I often use the chorus settings on the Whammy, which again I like before overdrive. Something about modulation before overdrive just clicks with me. I tend to write progy rock/metal stuff, and this board has a nice large palette of tones that I can use. I run the Le Bass in cold fusion, with a bit of grit and a nice bump in the high mids. The B3K on top of that makes for a really trebly, grindy overdrive with lots of harmonics. At the moment the Aftershock is set to a filthy octave-fuzz kinda sound, and sounds mega alongside the B3K. For atmospheric parts, I like to use the flanger (set slow and fairly deep) and reverb, and sometimes delay. Very spacey-sounding. And for melancholic lead bass stuff, I'll use a Whammy upper octave harmony, flanger, and maybe reverb. The tremolo I have set very choppy and don't use very much, but I'm sure I will!
  19. I doubt EHX sell many Deluxe Big Muffs to funk disco / jazz guys I spot the Vortex Mini you have tucked away in the corner there, are you running that standard or with any particular toneprint(s)?
  20. Well, last night I finally got round to plugging the whole board into the CS-12, and it works a treat! Everything sounds as it should, and nothing caught fire, so I'll consider it a total success. I'm glad I don't have to replace the 1 Spot yet, overall it's a cracking (not crackling!) power supply
  21. It sounds silly, but no!! I was worried about running too low a current into the pedal, I wasn't aware that you could just ignore the output labels. Cheers guys, you might have just saved me a pretty penny!
