Would you play a style thats not to your taste ?
farmer61 replied to thunderbird13's topic in General Discussion
Have done so (acoustic stylie) but found myself gravitating back towards my personal taste in music. IMV playing any type of music has to be better than not playing at all. Bon Jovi and "Jump" by Van Halen being the absolute exceptions of course -
Its not the actual cut im having problems with, its the pressure of the string pushing back making the finger hurt
Wimp , I'm gigging tonight and I've got a glass splinter in my thumb and it bloody hurts. Also gigged 2 years ago with stitches after I knifed my own left hand, which was 1 second after this conversation Mrs F61 "don't be stupid you'll cut yourself" Me "I'm being exremely careful"

Put all your accessories in a wheeled tool box, I have a v large Stanley one. When you've got all you need out, put the cab on top of the tool box. A bit like this
Guys, I've been on the lookout for a new covers band. My previous one is on hold due to guitarist now living in Poland, but we did mainly classic rock, and modern indie type stuff. I had a mail last night inviting me to an audition/practice with a new band tonight. They've thrown me a list of 5 songs they're working on. 20th Century Boy Lets Stick Together Sweet Child Of Mine Walking on Sunshine Mercy The issue is, i've only ever played one of them before. 20th Century boy. The others I know, but not to play. I'm going to grab some tab, listen to some MP3's and have a go. Anyone play any of those? any advice? I'm confident in my ability to learn, but not at this short notice!
Only issue I can see is Sweet Child as I believe it's downtuned on the E?
Something like a LM2 or LM3 (both 500 watts) paired up with front ported 4x10 & 1x15 STDhf cabs would be equivalent BUT will sound different. Markbass has less of a 'signature' sound than your Trace gear, a lot more 'transparent' sounding but in a musical way. You can still get that Trace pre-shape sound with the MB VPF filter control, pretty much maxed out. I found when i changed to MB gear that all my basses sounded different. Not in a weired way, just they sounded almost DI'd, very natural (if that makes sense?) but then again i had been using an Eden rig for 8 years & had probably got used to that sound. You'll certainly notice the difference in weight, I love my stack & don't groan at the prospect of stairs at gigs, these days!
Thanks... What about the price of this stuff?
-
I have a whole raft of Trace gear that I think is superb apart from the weight of the stuff. I am seriously considering looking at the lighter weight Mark Bass gear. I currently gig an AH500 into a 4 x 10 for smaller gigs and 4 x 10 with a 1 x 15 for larger gigs. In terms of Mark Bass what would the equivalent gear in their range be and are there any thoughts on price comparison and tone. I would need to sell to buy or exchange upwards. Thx

Selling my first bass to fund an engagement ring - 34 years ago Should have kept the bass and found the cash elsewhere as it led to a 26 year bass playing hiatus.
Okay. I want to go on a world tour, all over the world. Never you mind. Bass, amp , speaker and leads. I think this is a question you should ask your teacher. I refer you to the answer I gave to the first question.
I think what Dream Thief is suggesting is that if you put some more details on what it is you want to do originals/covers/pubs/weddings you are more likely to get some feedback. Still, it's your call!
Ok Guys I have been reading the pages in this forum with interest and from time to time I've gathered that some of you have experience of creating recording spaces. So I'm looking for general advice for soundproofing my garage for recording and for the kids to practise in. It's going to be a one room thing with no control room and I'll be using mac and logic (pretty mobile) I want a corner of the room with a desk, the rest some shelving for storage and a live area. I have a garage about 25'x12' I intend to dry line it and build a stud wall 5 foot into it with a door through to the space, the 5 foot bit being storage for my wifes business equipment. I have a load of rockwool that I got cheap in a focus sale so that will be my main material for gap filling. I'm looking for advice about what materials to make the dry walls with. Any suggestions are welcome I'm open to anything and cheap and cheerful is the order of the day... I will be using some baffles and the like to create a bit of isolation when recording...
HEATING
Glad you managed to save her, she's a nice looker!
It's nice and on Jakes recommendations I put some Silver Slap strings on which are really easy to play, at the end of the day it's a £1000 odd DB, so not in the league of a lot of gear on here, but because of it's history there's already some sentimental value to it. I found it in a music room battered and bruised and ready for the skip, the room was actually one of my old class rooms of my secondary school from nearly 30 years ago....long story but it's a great starting point for me. Btw your gear looks really cool!!!!

Rescued from scrapping and £360 later - It's Romanian, it's solid wood and it's from the 70's (possibly) and I can't play it very well, but with practice and help from Jake, I'll get there. My 2010 musical goal, is to gig this thing....!

Join a 3 piece band, you'll get noticed all right - mistakes and all!
It has to be said, I'm generally a guy who is fairly lacking in confidence in his own abilities as a bass player. The fact that I held my own at the audition has been a bit of a booster for me. Not as much as if I'd actually got the gig, of course, but more than if they'd said "uh, dude, you suck."
Then that is a real positive and it will help at the next audition where you may well be succesful and then your confidence will really grow. I'm convinced that being a bassist is 90% attitude and 10% actual ability (well I hope so anyway!!!!)

Perhaps they wanted a bassist who could dress themselves properly?
PS, what has the guitarist spotted on the ceiling?
He's spotted some of my missed notes probably, either that or he's trying to avoid looking at the old bloke on bass!

My MM Stingray is suffering from rusty screws on the pick guard and also there is a hint of it (I think) on the bridge, I guess the screws can be replaced, but any great tips on how to clean it up? I think it may have come from the string cleaning spray I use???
