The on board pre amp is good and not bout metal - it’s in one of the sandberg models - Grand dark I’ve used it, it’s nice

Congrats on the new bass. Please correct me if I am wrong but are they not Jazz shaped pick ups? Unless you were getting the router out the EMG’s I think are soap bars and wouldn’t fit. Delano defo have a good range of pick ups to choose from, and even if you don’t rout the world is your oyster with jazz style/shaped pick ups. Glock pre’s are good, if you like that style but want to be a bit more aggressive look at Noll pre amps. The Aguilar OBP range is also great as are their pick ups. Could go on for ever about different types and combinations but you’ll know what you want.

I have to say my fave reason in this list is avoiding a drop D tuner - having something easy to install without drilling extra holes, useful, reliable and about 10 times less in price than a 5 string bass is something to be avoided.........

I endorse that and generally run the volume on about 80% as your max. On the L1500 you had to mod the capacitors to make it useable, on pretty much every setting before this it’s like fingernails on a blackboard

The 82-83 Squiers are rightly held good regard, but mainly because they were better than the rubbish coming out of USA - prices nearer the £7-800 mark is a better reflection depending on condition, mods etc. Yep - newer basses are likely to be more consistent than some of the ancient ones. The Rick I would have would be the Al Cisneros - it looks and sounds Amazing

That was brilliant - thanks for that. I don’t know if they do or they missed it out, but if you add A Plek machine to the step, that’s more time and man hours on that process. Do you know do Cort only do Cort, or does the factory also do other makes as happens elsewhere

I can only speak for Sandberg, but it’s likely to be a lot of CNC unless they state otherwise. All guitars are then hand finished to the same raw level, but you are correct it then comes down to man hours on the finish - a masterpiece involves the thermal and vibration treatment and then the time taken to create the finish which only a couple guys do - Sandberg is a small operation with a critical mass of approx 26 employees I think - big enough to churn out stuff, small enough to ensure a family feel and QC The most bang for buck finish unless they upcharge is high gloss compared to matt as that takes so much more time to achieve

Bass making at Rickenbacker, Sandberg, Custom shop etc levels is skilled Labour. How much would you pay for a plumber for a week for example? If it’s a weeks work, subtract that cost, then subtract materials, then built in wear and tear to tools, consumables, electricity bills, property rent/mortgage - then a wage for admin non luthier staff - then we should allow profit. Its not that bad in a lot of ways....

I know it’s only an opinion, knickers won’t get twisted, but you did also say that they who play a relic’d bass want to give the impression they are seasoned pro’s or something they are not, when they don’t.
