1. I have to agree on that. I'm not really good at slapping, but my fretting hand pretty much gets everything done!
2. hi and welcome! got any links or pics to band/gear?
3. that'be dutchies rock then
4. I try to make as little movement with my arm as possible and keep it relaxed. Might not look as cool but works really well! Good luck with learning
5.
WTF is a 'desert rock' player???!!
answered in
They play in ice cream shops,Millies cookies,Ben And Jerrys....... or is that dessert Rock? I think it's like Queens of the Stone Age you know cool but wierd.
Yup, think Nick Oliveri, Liam O'Mally. Bands like QOTSA, Kyuss, Masters of Reality, Triggerfinger, Eagles of Death Metal, and The Desert Sessions (which kinda initiated the term. It's also called stonerock, mostly due to QOTSA
6. but you have always been different
7. yup he does, it's mostly a sound thing for the triplets afaik. after that he needs a milder sound and ditches it
8. they are fine, however.. I found for this song it's better to play with a pick to get close to the sound
9. I had the same problem just a few months back. Using a pick is definately a key to this song (Chris does it live). You have to learn how to alternate pick, and to this song the way you stroke the string first is most important. On your E-string start with an upstroke, A string start with downstroke. Relax your fingers around the pick, but make sure it doesn't tip over. A smaller pick could also work (I've used a tiny red Jazz pick myself) You might also want to experiment where you play best (near the bridge or near the neck). I tend to play best near the bridge. I hope this helps!
10. I'm checking out another bass in 2 weeks, don't hestitate to sell meanwhile. have a bump btw
11. afaik.. you don't really play BETWEEN frets on a fretted bass but you lay your finger on or very close near the edge of the fret. A fretless bass would therefore just be shifting your fingers a fret's lenght?
12. agreed on that, a reason not to develop it is because playing with a choir or badly tuned instruments just hurt your ear... also choirs or orchestra's singing on 445hz = a instead of 440hz = a are kinda crap. A big plus to it is when you're doing a jamsession u just get a pitch by hearing it, and you can look up things by ear. I myself use it just to determine the first note or chord and then I start working with relative pitch. I would recommend anyone to practise on relative pitch and hearing chords (first major minor, then augmented chords etc...)
13. For me as a desert rock player I tend to play dropped D (just because I hate playing 5string) so a lot of open D is played. However I think you should just make sure you don't get any peaks at all so pick the lowest string and just peak on that, just to be safe
14. Why hit the A string? I usually get the E string peaking more than the A...
15. or we're socially disturbed people looking for self confirmation on forums like these i hope your explanation is better
16. lefty playing righty! Probably because I play the piano it didn't matter too much for me... also practical use when buying basses
17. a note on perfect pitch: mostly perfect pitch is something you have or don't have.. so you can't achieve it by practise... however if you have it there's ways of being able to work it.
18. there's someone selling an aerodyne so you might want to check that out and ask him for some info! edit: Linky linky
19. what they're saying is that you migh really hurt yourself while learning the wrong technique, which is more important than being unique imho
20. WOoo! I can come try that tobaccoburst van der End! Won't be for another two weeks though
21. That's not a 5string It's a cool bass though, do you like those 2 Musicmanstyle pickups?
22. Gimme a word when you're posting. I'm studying to become a teacher of English
23. Darn.. 74kg for a cab is just SICK! that's about 1 1/3rd of my weight!
24. Try setting the EQ balance to Low and add some high in your EQ. Try shape 1/2 and see what comes out best. Even so, you could try more gain and less master. That did the trick for me, and I use the same gear!
