1. So I've done some more research, the SYB5 isn't quite what I'm after.. I'm after something a bit less in your face which can create a rounder type thing I'm after, IE: the track below. The 'wubs' created in the bassline are done with an expression pedal. He has a Moogerfooger Bass MuRF but he also had a Pod HD500X so I'm not sure which is being controlled. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ueI9c_egcZQ
 2. My friends needed a bass player to jam with. I already played guitar a bit so just hopped on and picked up some basics. Over the years I've practised both fairly equally but I'm definitely a bass player at heart.
 3.
You could look at the Boss SYB5 which does this. As it happens I have one to flog
Ah yes I'd forgotten about that one. I'm not looking to buy immediately but when the time comes I'll give you a shout and see if it's still for sale ! Cheers
 4. I've been looking into getting a synth pedal of some sort that has an expression input, the Moogerfooger MuRF looks brilliant but quite expensive.. Anyone have any suggestions of others that might suit what I'm looking for? Open to all kinds of sounds at the moment.
 5.
I've actually played with Taz from Submotion for a hot minute, he stood in on a gig I was doing when our regular guy couldn't make it. Monster jazz player; at one point we just let him and the upright player go for it for about 20 minutes and I stopped playing to sit in the audience and listen. Real nice dude and I didn't realise who he was until we were tearing down and he mentioned his day job. Keys forums are a bit sparse on the ground, you tend to get either the forums like gearslutz where they're coming from a hardware perspective or the Keyboard Player Magazine forums where it's mostly heavy theory guys shitting on modern keys. I drift around the KPM forums but it's hard work sometimes. I posted a thread about advice for second-wave Ska keys/organ because I double for a band doing Specials and such, but ended up on the receiving end of a rant about whether it could be legitimately called 'Ska' from some guy heavy into the roots scene. There's some useful stuff on there but a lot of chaff...
Ah that's awesome! Really looking forward to their new album. Ok cool, I'll check that out and hopefully might have some luck! Cheers for the info!
 6.
You posted the quotes below and then put up videos to show how to do a complete set up. I think they suggest a set up should be done each time you change the strings?? Even with the same gauges and same make and model of string you will likely need to do a setup. If they are a different make of string and still the same gauge then you are extremely likely to need to do a full setup. I rarely change strings but if I do I would do a setup.
He was posting the videos in response to what I said, which was that I didn't know how to set my bass up on my own. And his comments about setting up each time was just what he does, I've never done that for example.
 7.
What?? I need all those tools just to change a set of strings?
No those are to set-up the bass, to change strings all you'll need is string cutters, and an optional would be a winder for the tuning pegs to save time.
 8.
The principles are the same for any common fretted bass guitar - by which I mean to exclude 13-stringers and the like, etc. but even there the principles would be the same. If Carl Pedigo's video doesn't appeal, there are many more on Youtube.
Yeah, I've checked a few, but they seemed overly complicated needing tons of tools and such... But thanks I will check these out tonight
 9.

Thanks for the links! I have a stingray, I know what needs to be done in theory, just never applied it through fear of messing the thing up haha.. Will these videos apply to a ray? (Can't check videos at the moment!)
 10.
I rarely change strings but if I do I would do a setup. I'd also redo or check the setup every now and then anyway without new strings. How would you know it didn't need doing if you hadn't checked it?
I guess through my lack of knowledge of how to actually do a set-up on my own I've never thought it was necessary to do that often!
 11.
You can buy an electronic micrometer for less than a fiver. Even with the same gauges and same make and model of string you will likely need to do a setup. New strings even of same model and gauge are different, they are new. If they are a different make of string and still the same gauge then you are extremely likely to need to do a full setup.
Wait, does this mean you do a full set-up every time you change your strings?!
 12. I could be wrong but I'm pretty sure those different gauges shouldn't impact on your intonation. They're all round about what a standard 4 string pack would be.
 13. Selling my Guyatone VT2 Vintage Tremolo In basically mint condition with original box. Capable of sounds ranging from soft in-out volume wash to quick choppy tremolo Price: [s]£60[/s] £50 Feel free to post/PM me with offers.
 14.
Ah if the pedal is used I see no reason why the seller should not offer you an exchange as they wont lose anything may be worth having a look what they have in stock and sending them a message? Good luck whatever happens
I can't as their website is under construction and doesn't have their stock listed but thanks!
 15.
Oops, I've just re-read your first post, and I hadn't noticed that you're inside the 14 days. If you contact the seller directly you might be OK.
I did that stating that it was my wish to exchange it for something else and pay the extra, but they said they can't due to their 14 day policy... So i went back stating it was less than 14 days since I received it.. They haven't replied yet so thought I'd get some advice before I try calling them on my lunch break.
 16. The thing is, if they accept my offer to return it and have another pedal in stock that I'd rather have, the odds are I'd actually be paying them more money! So you'd think they'd co-operate...
 17.
Hi Mate I am not sure how the rules apply with returns and I really do not want to sound harsh but I am not sure why the shop/seller would take it back because you dont think you will use it much as they will have to sell it on as B stock or used I hope you sort it out though if it was me I would sell it on here and take a small loss
No that's fine you don't sound rude, but through eBay I'm certain you're able to return something on the grounds that you're simply not happy with the item. But yes I might do that... I'd ideally be looking for a trade but I'll look into starting a FS topic later if I have no joy. Cheers NOTE: It wouldn't be B-stock I don't think, as this is quite an old pedal anyway so not brand new.
 18. So I bought a Guyatone VT2 Tremolo off eBay, cool little pedal but don't think I'll use it much so pursuing a refund/exchange with the shop. The pedal arrived 1st Dec, so we're within the shop's 14 day returns period. However I've accidentally closed the Return Case, and eBay say that it's now not possible to reopen.. I'm not sure if the seller is going to co-operate, what should I do? I'm going to try calling the shop to negotiate but if that fails, shall I call PayPal? Cheers!
 19. Good interview, I don't know much about recording at all so some of the ideas like recording behind the headstock and in front of the strings were interesting to read
 20.
Oh good.....i can't remember if i was an Aye or a No but well done the Aye's.....i think
Yeah I think overall there were more Aye's. Lots of suggestions and links to stuff I'll be checking out soon!
 21.
I think Blue was trying to say that an educated opinion is more valid than a dumb opinion expressed in a seemingly provocative manner. Regardless of the op's intentions I have to say I still agree with Blue. I just thought it was worth pointing out because some of you are ganging up on him in a weird 'Internet lynch mob' kind of way. If everyone is entitled to an opinion, why throw personal insults at him for his opinion? Goes against everything you're arguing for, doesn't it?
I'm not sure how my opinion on a bass player can be dumb just because you don't agree with it. Juvenile logic. My opinion would be dumb had I tried to judge Jaco without hearing anything he played, alas I have and therefore I'm entitled to form an opinion on what I've heard. By your thinking, a lot of here have stupid opinions. Why is it weird that people are standing up against someone? He does this on almost EVERY thread he gets involved in, I think it's spot on that people who are sick of it tell him. There's another thread about Paul McCartney and guess what, he's in an argument almost identical to this where he's accused people of being trolls and he's told people they should stop playing bass just as he has here. And like this thread, he has a whole host of people mocking him for his personal attacks. A mod even got involved and told him to stop, he takes things too far. For a man of his age he's acting like a total child on here
 22. So as I've mentioned elsewhere, I really want to get playing again. I'd be really keen to get involved with a jazzy/hip-hop enthusiastic keyboard player (or pianist)... However I'm just not sure how to find any! Anyone know good forums for keyboard players? Or better yet, know anyone who might fit this bill?? EDIT: think stuff like Submotion Orchestra or BadBadNotGood
 23. I think I probably got frustrated when I first started playing, but now I'm pretty patient because I know that I'll get it eventually if I keep going.
 24.
Because open strings & fingering patterns would remain the same as he plays them now relative to the capo. It's certainly the way I would do it but that's because I use open strings whenever possible.
Ah ok, perhaps it's because I play a Ray but I tend to avoid open strings if possible, so in my mind capo or no capo his fingering would be exactly the same. Would personally take a 5th fret over an open string 9 times out of 10, more warmth! EDIT: Depends what I'm playing actually, with distortion/fuzz on then perhaps I would maybe go for open A over 5th fret E. All depends on the part I suppose
