1.
Oh good.....i can't remember if i was an Aye or a No but well done the Aye's.....i think
Yeah I think overall there were more Aye's. Lots of suggestions and links to stuff I'll be checking out soon!
 2.
I think Blue was trying to say that an educated opinion is more valid than a dumb opinion expressed in a seemingly provocative manner. Regardless of the op's intentions I have to say I still agree with Blue. I just thought it was worth pointing out because some of you are ganging up on him in a weird 'Internet lynch mob' kind of way. If everyone is entitled to an opinion, why throw personal insults at him for his opinion? Goes against everything you're arguing for, doesn't it?
I'm not sure how my opinion on a bass player can be dumb just because you don't agree with it. Juvenile logic. My opinion would be dumb had I tried to judge Jaco without hearing anything he played, alas I have and therefore I'm entitled to form an opinion on what I've heard. By your thinking, a lot of here have stupid opinions. Why is it weird that people are standing up against someone? He does this on almost EVERY thread he gets involved in, I think it's spot on that people who are sick of it tell him. There's another thread about Paul McCartney and guess what, he's in an argument almost identical to this where he's accused people of being trolls and he's told people they should stop playing bass just as he has here. And like this thread, he has a whole host of people mocking him for his personal attacks. A mod even got involved and told him to stop, he takes things too far. For a man of his age he's acting like a total child on here
 3. So as I've mentioned elsewhere, I really want to get playing again. I'd be really keen to get involved with a jazzy/hip-hop enthusiastic keyboard player (or pianist)... However I'm just not sure how to find any! Anyone know good forums for keyboard players? Or better yet, know anyone who might fit this bill?? EDIT: think stuff like Submotion Orchestra or BadBadNotGood
 4. I think I probably got frustrated when I first started playing, but now I'm pretty patient because I know that I'll get it eventually if I keep going.
 5.
Because open strings & fingering patterns would remain the same as he plays them now relative to the capo. It's certainly the way I would do it but that's because I use open strings whenever possible.
Ah ok, perhaps it's because I play a Ray but I tend to avoid open strings if possible, so in my mind capo or no capo his fingering would be exactly the same. Would personally take a 5th fret over an open string 9 times out of 10, more warmth! EDIT: Depends what I'm playing actually, with distortion/fuzz on then perhaps I would maybe go for open A over 5th fret E. All depends on the part I suppose
 6.
Tune your bass down a full step & use a capo for the half step & standard tuning stuff.
Just wondering but why would he need a capo unless he was playing open-string chords?...
 7.
Ah.. My issue is with a bass that has a Maple neck - A Roscoe its currently retro fitted with gaffa tape fret markers at position 3, 5, 7 etc.. its effective just not elegant.
Oh really? Fair enough, perhaps I've never played on a stage that was THAT dark then haha I've always found my maple neck Ray really visible.
 8. Thanks for the advice everyone! Sent some enquiries out and will be looking into learning to do it myself for in the future Will ring Coda now.. Fingers crossed it'll ready soon and I won't have to bother taking it elsewhere
 9.
Oops I didn't know it had closed down, I used to work almost opposite Coda but I left that job over 5 years ago. There used to be a Luthier in Luton that made high end custom basses http://www.luthierdi...m-custom-basses but I'm not sure if he does set-ups, could be worth giving him a call.
Thanks, I'll give him a shout!
 10.
Have you tried Coda? I can't vouch for them as I've not used them, just remember the shop from my days working in Luton.
Coda is the shop that it's in haha! The Luton store closed down, so I was forced to drive to the Stevenage store as it's the closest shop that I know of.
 11.
I'd say learn to do it yourself - you know what you like your bass to feel like better than anyone else and there are heaps of guides out there. Save time and money, get satisfaction from being all self-sufficient. A fortnight for a setup - ridiculous.
Others have said this to me but a lot of guides give very varied advice. I'd assume all you need to adjust the neck and bridge would be an allen key and a screwdriver but most guides I've looked at say you need a load of tools.. I've also been warned that doing it wrong and messing up the truss rod can cost £££ to fix... Any truth to this?
 12. My bass is currently in a certain guitar shop in Stevenage.. On the phone I was told it would take 1 week to get it set-up, it's now been 2 and I'm getting a bit lost without it in my life. I called at the weekend expressing that it's not a big job and that I'm hoping it won't be much longer, but it has. I'm considering just taking it elsewhere if I don't hear from them today... Anyone have any suggestions of good places to take it? Preferably outside of London for convenience but any suggestions welcome.
 13.
Help, please. I get McCartney, but not Pastorius. Do I continue to play bass or not?
Nope you must immediately put down your electric bass guitar or be deemed a troll and an unworthy bass player for all eternity!
 14. I've always used a TU-3, night bright display and as others have mentioned has the silent switch which is great. Looking at most pro boards, Boss tuners seem the most popular.
 15. Looks like you've already found some luck but I think you posted in the wrong thread, ''Bassists Available" is probably what you were looking for
 16.
Saying you don't recognize one of the world's top bass player as a bass player is either trolling or straight up ignorance . If you can't feel Paul or recognize him as a bass player, you really should consider dropping bass and trying another instrument.
Hahahaha he said almost the exact same comment word for word to me because I said I wasn't a fan of Jaco. This guy is like a broken record, trawling the forums accusing people of trolling and telling them to stop playing bass. What a joker.
 17.
It's trolling, no back pedaling. Blue
How is clarifying my point 'backpedaling'? I haven't gone back on a single thing I've said...
I've read all the replies Maybe not as blatant as mine, but my sentiment is shared by others here on this topic. Blue
And the same goes for me, plenty of people who agree. It works both ways. I'm not sure why you've gotten so uptight about the fact that I heard 'aimless noodling' in his music. That's my opinion and I have every right in the world to express that. And (as I've already reiterated) I asked for people to give me examples of his music that might change my mind!! What more do you want?! I'm openly admitting I want my mind to be changed!!! If you disagree with me then that's absolutely fine, that's actually what I wanted! It'd be boring if everyone agreed with this post, I wanted people to challenge what I said and to prove me wrong in the name of musical exploration! But show me why, give me examples like I asked for, don't just sit there repeating yourself over and over again calling me a troll for voicing my opinion. Check my other topics, I ask a lot of questions, I haven't set out to get anyone riled up. I had no idea that a simple post like this would cause such a 'crap'storm to be honest, it's quite baffling to me why you'd get so upset about a difference in musical opinion. But for the sake of being mature about this, I apologise if my honest current opinion of Jaco's music has upset you or hurt your feelings. As someone who is about 40 years my senior I hope you can do the same now and just respect my opinion. Thanks again to everyone who has debated/discussed this topic maturely and constructively! I have a lot of musical research to do this weekend
 18.
Ok, I'm happy to argue this out. If you post a deliberately troll-ishly worded post (labeling someone universally renowned for being one of the most important musicians of the last century as "not all that") and then saying he sounds like someone noodling in a guitar shop, don't be surprised if you get called ignorant. It's the same as walking into the Tate and telling everyone about how you think Picasso just looks like a bunch of random crap done by a 2 year old. Or going into a theatre and telling everyone about how Shakespeare is just a load of weird words. It comes across as deeply naive and provocative. That's how you normally choose to start a 'mature discussion', is it? You are entitled to your opinion, but it just comes across as trolling. For the record I am not a big Jaco fan either, but it doesn't take too many brain cells to figure out that there was a lot of talent and ability there.
Well firstly, I didn't say 'he's NOT all that', I asked 'IS he all that', which is a question rather than a statement like you're suggesting. It was intended as a means for people to either come and say 'yes, he is *insert explanation*' or 'no, he isn't *insert explanation*'. The best headlines/first sentences are meant to spark debate, for those who are capable of articulating their opinions without the use of insults. Yes, my opinion is that the tracks I've heard reminded me noodling you hear in a guitar shop. I've not listened to every track of his, nor am I saying that everything he's done sounds this way. If you read through this thread, there are others who agree with this opinion of mine, would you go as far as to call us all ignorant trolls or simply people with opinions? I often go to galleries and I almost always hear people criticise classics or pieces I like*/appreciate, and that's perfectly normal in my mind because I'm capable of processing opposing opinions without employing insults or put downs. Finally, at no point did I claim he didn't have talent or ability. Overall I think you're over-exaggerating what I said massively whilst you've misinterpreted a question and an opinion for statements... Which simply is not the case.
 19. Thanks to everyone who gave genuine helpful responses/suggestions, I plan to check all of it out at some stage! As to project_c and blue it's a shame you feel the need to respond in the aggressive and self-righteous manner that you have, it's people like you that tarnish forums for others. Before I even said anything I stated that music is subjective, ergo, this is purely my opinion. I've been completely honest about my opinion and then as you can see, I've asked for suggestions that might change my mind because I'm always open to a fresh perspective. I figured this was the best platform to express my current point of view in the hopes that it might be changed, not for people like you to say I shouldn't be playing bass or that I'm deeply ignorant because I'm not currently a fan of one specific player. This is a place for friendly discussion and exploration, not for people like you to climb onto your pedestal in an attempt to put others down. Perhaps you both need to learn how to maturely disagree with others.
 20. Of course all music is totally subjective but what I've heard of Jaco Pastorius has been a total let down compared to what I've heard other people say about him* Granted, I've only heard some of the most well known tracks and to me it was just disjointed... It sounded like I'd just walked into any guitar shop in the world... Aimless noodling... Anyone got any suggestions that may change my mind?
 21. I do at home and when jamming with people, but in bands I've generally just used one or two drives/distortion for a bit of growl. Except my first band where I used a delay on one section and a wah on another.
 22. " I plan one the bad creating a youtube channel so we can create cover video untill we have a fan base, and then the next step is getting signed!" Bish bash bosh, simple as that !
 23. Hi! Looking to get back into playing live, last time I was in a regular gigging band playing weekly around London/South England was early 2013 but I probably practice more now than I did then! Current gear is in my sig. I enjoy playing music ranging across rock, electronic, hip-hop but I'm flexible and enjoy playing and listening to most styles and like experimentation. People around my age (22) would be good but this isn't a requirement. Feel free to PM me for more information (or email if you're not a member: "][email protected]) Cheers!
 24. Ok so since being on here I've seen 'gas' used a lot when talking about wanting new gear etc, I get what it means and what context it makes sense it, but where does the word come from? Is it an acronym haha? Cheers
