1. Four4lyfe! Seriously though, does anyone know the fundamental frequencies of the lowest notes on a 5 and 8 string bass? The F# on the latter must be pushing close to subsonic.
2. Rumour has it that the bodies of the Yamaha RBX series basses are made of balsa sandwiched between a maple top and bottom.
3. Is Marcus Miller Thomann's premium range?
4. What happens to the instruments that are already made and in the shops or in warehouses waiting to be sent out? I notice the Fende/Squier website is still showing many guitars and basses with rosewood fretboards. Including in their Affinity budget range. I imagine the same applies to Gibson/Epiphone and others.
5. Locally available Fender 7250Ms RW (£15.99) Ernie Ball Hybrid Slinkys (RW £20.99) D'Addario EXL165s NW (£23.99) D'Addario NYXL45105 ? (£31.99) Available by mail order The above and many more. I'd prefer to keep it to <£20 to ~£30 (+/- £2). Cheers
6. I'm not surprised rosewoods's been CITEd. It's so ubiquitous (especially on guitars from Far Eastern manufacturers) that I'm surprised it wasn't done years ago.
7. What do you mean the "usual snapped neck repair"? Why did people keep snapping their necks?
8.
Taken care of it Mark
Cheers
9. [sup]Yes, I would like a number over at the TB HB club. Thank you very much [sup] [/sup][/sup]
10. Yeah. Here, for example
11. What does it ship with? Also... Haven't I seen you somewhere else?
12. There she is on the right. A brand spanking new PJ-4 HTR in wine red. Could probably do with better strings but otherwise I'm happy with it
13. It's a Graham Noden bass. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Fretless-Bass-Graham-Noden-79-0-4-/172582019736?hash=item282eb0a298:g:MjQAAOSw4CFYuwpW Active and fretless by the looks of it.
14. Either this one, this one or this one. What's it like and what gives with the £20 difference in pricing across the range? Are white and sunburst more expensive finishes?
15. Other people who played bass on Doors albums Douglass Lubahn (Strange Days) Kerry Magness (Waiting for the Sun: Track 6) Harvey Brooks (The Soft Parade: Tracks 1 to 4, 7 and 9) Lonnie Mack (Morrison Hotel: Tracks 1 and 11) Ray Neopolitan (Morrison Hotel: Tracks 2 to 9) Jerry Scheff (L.A. Woman)
though praps not in The Cramps, The Black Keys and The Doors
And Van der Graaf Generator from Pawn Hearts to World Record (at least live. Hugh Banton took over bass duties in the studio after Nic Potter left and played the bass pedals in concerts). Which leads me to point out that there is bass on Doors records. Played by Ray Manzerak live and in the studio (keyboard bass) and Robby Krieger (bass guitar overdubs) in the studio,

Budget PJs

It's a medium to long term aim, Grangur. I have to save up for one first

Budget PJs

That depends on how much the extra bits (pickup, potentiometer, domed black barrel knob) and the labour costs. Is there a guide to PJing a P anywhere online?

Budget PJs

Just had a thought (several hours ago). Why not buy another P-bass like the one I have, a J-bass bridge pick up and some other bits, and turn that into a PJ?

Confession. I kind of want a PJ and a J with black pickguards on Olympic white to go with my Olympic white with black pickguard P. Which is why I'm disappointed that only Squier offers that colour combo and I can't find any for less than £200 PJs have the Jazz bass neck as well as a J pick up near the bridge, right?

How does a 5 year old even play an instrument that's as long as he is tall? Unless he's one of those freaky 5' 10" 5 year olds.

Though, now I look at them side by side (as it were), the design kind of works with tuners with appropriately sized heads.

Hmm. It seems it's not okay to rip off the Fender headstock, but other companies are fair game

I notice there's not a whole lot of choice out there in the sub £150 world when it comes to P-basses with a J pick-up in the bridge position. So far all I've been able to find are

The J&D YC-PBJ
The G4M LA II
The G4M Seattle
The Harley Benton PJ-4 HTR
I like the J&D headstock, but I'm not particularly enamoured of their decision to replace one of the volume knobs with a pick-up selector switch. The LA II gets points for having the output jack on the side of the body, but then loses them all for that headstock design. Likewise for the Seattle, which even gets bonus points for being black on Olympic white. But then also has that headstock So the Harley Benton is probably the best of a very small choice, at least as far as aesthetics go. Other than used Affinities, are there any others out there?
