You could achieve 6ohms with a little rewiring (Assuming the 410 is comprised of 4*8ohm speakers) Rewire them all in parallel and then run the cabs in series. 1/(1/8ohms*4)+4ohms = 6 It could also be done to bring it to around 3.5, though that is still a bit risky for the amp.

I think the question is why do you not want the Status preamp!

Provided the battery can provide the current needed to run both I can't see there being a drop in performance

No doubt there will be a problem with this solution, but surely just running the circuits in parallel of one 9V would work - though cutting the battery life.

+1 for dowel - going to be much more secure than matches or cocktail sticks, I'd say.
