    I have the same logo as yours on my 1979 Stingray (with the encircled R)... The bridge is, of course, an excellent indicator of authenticity, because of its unique features, but the stamps and pot date codes are way more precise, especially the stamps. 😉 At this price tag, it should be a good idea to have these details photographed as I'm sure a connoisseur buyer will ask for these, so being proactive doesn't harm. 😉😉😉

    Wow, lovely 😍! There are other ways to attest the year than the serial number: pot date codes and stamps in the neck pocket and at the heel of the neck. According to George Fullerton, the stamps can be missing and it happened more than thought... And according to him again, it's a polyester finish as they were the only one prone to cracking. CLF who was making the instruments for Music Man up to late 1979 (when Leo left) were using nitro, polyester or polyurethane finish quite randomly, but polyurethane was the least problematic.

    Richter in Germany also have a twin buffer preamp in their range. https://www.richter-ee.de/mixer.html EBS had a terrific buffered preamp too, but it's not made anymore.

    All the above is the reason why I stopped attending "rock" concert something like 2 decades ago: deaf "sound engineers" are a real pain in the āss. And the funny thing is that I was always standing near the mixing desk, because this is were the sound was the least bad... 🤮 We go mainly to jazz (where the sound engineers know what the mediums are for) or classical concerts where the sound is ALWAYS good. Ok, classical concerts are (most of the time) unamplified, but the musicians placement is a science too and is sound engineering in itself.

    I would say simply dead strings coupled to a heavy attack with the bridge pickup full on and a tad bit of neck pickup, tone full on, through the all flat KRK speakers, recorded with a phone.

    There was no fretless version way back in 1989 when it was first released, even if Hans-Peter Wilfer is also pretending that the body shape is reminiscent of a dolphin (that he certainly never saw and had to put dolphin inlays for clarification). ☝🏻🤓

    Because on the first edition something like 30~35 years ago, the fingerboard inlays were dolphins. 😉

    Same for me, I listened to the album when it was released and found it really meh with overuse of autotune, but this Tiny Desk concert is just so good!

    In fact Bill Wyman is supposed to be the first ever fretless bass player way back to 1961 (according to himself) on a defretted instrument.

    It reminds me of an anecdote: We were once asked to play in a folk-rock one day festival when we were playing fusion jazz music... We accepted the offer as it was well paid and when we opened the indoor festival, everyone went out and we literally played for the chairs and tables as even the sound engineer ran away... They said the sound was better outside because we were playing so loud... and that my fretless tone was amazing, ... certainly through the opened windows and doors.

    1971... A very very early fretless player as IIRC the first ever fretless bass player was Rick Danko in 1968/69 with his Ampeg Scroll Bass. Nice sound too, and I listened to the entire tune even if I'm absolutely not into folk-rock music.

    Got ours last Friday, but today's rehearsal was only talking and not playing, so didn't try it in situation so far. These things happen...
