1. I think I remember looking for a Jazz sometime near 2007 and going in there, but have no idea how long they were around before then..... Last time I went in I was chatting to them and found out that there's a few buildings that are now listed and have to remain as music shops. Great to hear that considering all the redevelopment and central location. Just a shame the 12 bar wasn't included on that list!
2. There are UK specific groups on Facebook for bass gear too. Bass players market uk Bass players sell - buy - swap-UK only Are 2 that spring to mind but there's at least 5 or so more
3. By the sounds of things 2020 is going to be a GAS free year and the classifieds forums will be dead soon! Just to follow suit I think my current line up is my favourite to date..... Rickenbacker 4003 Epiphone Thunderbird Classic Pro Fender MIJ 70s RI Precision Squier VM Jaguar Ovation B768 elite Harley Benton PB50 (although I bought this to have a go at modding and its in bits at the mo) However.......if an Ovation Magnum, Peavey T40 or G&L L2000 came up at a reasonable price I'd be very tempted and GAS would be back in full force!!
4. I used to work around the corner from them and the lads in Wunjo's are great, always friendly, happy to let you try out whatever you want and open to negotitate on price.
5. I bought an absolutely lovely Japanese p bass from Nik that has rekindled my love for p basses. Really great guy to deal with and he even dropped it over to me. Cheers Nik!!
6. What curtains? 😋 The lean to is essentially an 8ft wooden shack that has been attached to the back of the house that you get to through the back door. It's where the fridge/washing machine etc live so there's no curtains up.
7. Thanks for all of the help! The green house tent is a good shout to help stop it getting knocked, but I'm not sure i can get away with whacking it in the lean to! How important is keeping in in/out of direct sunlight? I think I can find a place to hang it on a wall out of direct sunlight, but there are a lot of windows so my placement options will be limited!
8. Ahh, hadn't even thought about the bugs - cheers for the heads up on that. If I did chance leaving it in the shed do you have a rough idea of what that'd do to the drying time? I was planning on 3-4 coats of nitrocellulose colour then 6-8 clear gloss and had 2 weeks in mind as a rough drying time. My other options are...... A cupboard that used to house an immersion tank and is now empty. It's just outside the bedroom though so I have no idea if that's too close on the fumes front? I have a wooden lean to attached to the house that I would say is marginally warmer than a shed. The only downside is that the guitar is more likely to get a knock if left in here and it joins to our kitchen, so fumes may be an issue? Also, how consistent does the temperature have to be? Would whacking a fan heater on for half an hour or so in the evening be a good idea?
9. Hey everyone, Sorry if this has been asked before, I had a quick search but couldn't find anything. I have an empty house of the weekend so am going to have a go at refinishing a Harley Benton PB50 that i have kicking around, it'll be my first time doing this so i'm not holding my breath for it to turn out great! I have an idea of the general process for refinishing the body, but was just wondering what everyone's opinion was on where to leave the body after I've sprayed on the colour coat? How warm and dry does a warm dry place have to be? I was thinking of leaving it in my shed for a couple of weeks - it's dry and will be as warm as the British weather permits, but was wondering if this will be OK? Thanks!
10. Quick and easy transaction with no messing around, top Basschatter!
11.
Could you post this mate? Got cash waiting
Sorry mate, just sold it. I still have a PJ available though
12. Sold pending the usual, will update on Monday.
13. Cheers Gary. This is sold pending the usual and I'll update for deffo on Monday.
14. Hmm, I seem to have double posted some how. I only have one HB Jazz for sale, can one of the mods do me a favour and delete a double please? Ta!
15. Hey hey, I bought this in Dec 2015 with the intention of having a play around and modding it, but never got around to it, so it's time to go. It's been sat in a Thomannn gig bag (included) all this time still with the labels and protective covers over the pick ups and pick guard so it's in exactly the condition it came to me in. I've just noticed that I didn't mention in the title that this is a DEKO. As far as I can see it just needs a proper setup and you're good to go. At the minute I'd rather collection from Central or North London, but will post if it's still here in a week or so. The bass and bag was about £50 all in so grab yourself a bargain! 18. I was thinking that too, it's ridiculous that they go in a matter of minutes!! And even more annoying when you see them for sale 2nd hand at only a tenner or so less than you can buy the proper stock for new. Either we're all getting too quick with the auto alerts, there's only low levels of stock for each model, or someone is bulk buying loads (which could be the case if eBay is anything to go by!). Either way it's annoying and they should do something to limit the amount of instruments sold per transaction/customer. In other news, my 4 string PJ arrived the other day and I can't spot anything wrong with it that a little bit of setting up won't fix. Unfortunately, I have no idea how to set a bass up, but that's kind of the reason why I bought the bass, so all is good! The Jazz is on it's way too so I'll do photo's and that when it turns up!
19. New stock up! https://m.thomann.de/gb/decorative_guitars_and_basses.html
20. Because I'm stingy and don't want to spend £200-£300 on pups that will prob end up going in an epi t-bird with some sort of HB jazz neck =) I may end up doing it next year, but I have a couple of HB decko's on the way that need playing with first!!
21.
Try it out! I owned one for a few months, it went out of the house maybe five times, two of those occasions someone tried to nick it. While subjective, it sounded just lovely...and I mean really lovely. Man if I could afford to take the guts out of a 4000 series and drop them into a Thunderbird I'd be in happyville.
I was thinking exactly the same the other day!! If only someone made after market pups that sound like a Ric then I feel a project coming along!
