Got also a quick question. Is there anyway how I could identify exactly what kind of Bartolini pick-ups these are? I took a few pic's to help out: - bridge pick-up - neck pick-up Here's also a photobucket folder dedicated for the bass only, I've mainly taken pictures of the electronics, as I really want to find out what they are exactly, and about possibly upgrading/replacing them.
The control plate doesn't look original but not an issue at that price.
Are you sure? There's one at ebay with an identical plate. Take a peek: http://cgi.ebay.de/Bogart-Blackstone-Headl...n-/170554439040 Anyways, I'm seriously considering swapping the pre-amp. What would you people recommend for me? I'm looking for Vol/Pan, Bass/Treble, Low Mid/High Mid. Should I just contact John East, or any other manufacturers anyone might recommend? If anyone is familiar with the material of the body the bass has, I would like to know if it's possible to drill a hole to the side of the bass for the jack? This way I could have a J-Retro 01 Deluxe fitted, which has four knobs; Tone, Mid/Mid, Bass/Treble, Vol/Blend. This is exactly what I'm looking for spec-wise.
-
Bartolinis, yes. The pre-amp is 2-band.

Hello, I recently won this off ebay.de. Price was 500€ including shipping. Otherwise working perfectly, but the volume knob doesn't work. Seems like it's stuck at full volume, so I gotta get that fixed. Would it be more of a monster if I were to add in some Status J PU's and a John East pre? I'll definitely consider that, if I'm not satisfied with the current tone in the longer run. http://www.bogart-bass.de/
I used to have some .30's on my white Ex-Factor, that was a crazy time! Sounds best with .40's I reckon.
I currently have a set of Olympia strings on mine, .30 to .85. I'll definitely try .40 or .35 next time, as these feel a tad too floppy for my taste, but I dig the really light touch.
Sorry Larmer I have no experience of these, although I was wondering if you know any little peeps of the younger variety? Thoughts were for £100 you could try and if its not good enough to upgrade then you could pass it on as a present..... B.
That's a fine idea! I might just get one, and if I realize I've no use for it, I could pass it on to someone younger who is being curious about basses or guitars. Especially as I'm always encouraging parents with young children to suggest their children to try out any sort or form of music. I always had the urge to play guitar since I was eight years old or so, however it wasn't before I was thirteen until I got my first acoustic and shortly moved to bass..

Hey, Has anyone had any experiences with these: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Brand-New-Mini-CHILD...s-/390166840340 http://www.1to1music.co.uk/sunburst-mini-b...tras-p-627.html They seem very fascinating for the price. I'm mainly wondering can fifty quid purchase something that's actually playable? If I were to purchase one and it'd feel good enough, then just think if I were to slap in some Nordstrand pick-ups and an East pre-amp 300£ worth of electronics on a 50£ bass Anyways, I've always wanted to try a bass with a guitar scale, but I'm afraid it might be a total waste of a hundred quid (the shipping costs are around 40£ to Finland). Any opinions are appreciated, and welcome! Cheers!
He's only doing this part time. The website hasn't been updated in a while.
That's what I thought. Mainly presuming as they offer a lot of other products as well. I'm mainly wondering how would it compare, for example, against a Status? The one for sale here is priced at 990€, seems like a bargain if it's over two grands for a new one. The weight attracts me a lot too. I recently started my studies as a musician, so I need a light bass I can carry all day. 2.5kg? For real? Bro? That'd be dreamy. Why am I still babbling here and not telling you how it felt and sounded? Well I'm the guy without a drivers license & a car, so I need to arrange a ride there (the store is 90mins away from here) and I can't make it happen this week.

http://www.miller-instruments.com/basses-english.html Alright, so has anyone ever tried or heard of these? There's a 'FabFive' for sale locally, and I'm planning to check it out. Any opinions would be appreciated! Thanks.
You should also check out the Status Streamline for an extreme headless 'singlecut'. I am not 100% sure why the design is singlecut like, but I imagine is largely for ergonomics (gives you a strap connection further away from the tiny body without the crazy boomerang rig like the Steinberger).
It's definitely for ergonomics. With the 'Single Cut' design it balances on your body like any other bass. It doesn't suffer from the usual Steinberger problems, especially reaching for the first frets.

Cheers. The string spacing is enough for me, I only play five-strings with 16-17mm spacing. I'll have to cross this one off the gas-list.
-
I've always wondered about the string spacing on the five-stringers. 19mm? Any idea of the width of the neck at the nut and last fret? And the thickness at the 1st and 12th fret?
-
I wonder how would that thing sound with some Norstrand pick-ups and a John East pre-amp :brow: I'll most likely pass, though I would love one with a short scale.

Oh dear, I just found out Moses is now offering graphite fanned fret necks! http://www.mosesgraphite.com/slant.html Unfortunately these are 35" to 34", however I just emailed them and asked if they're able to build one with a 34" - 32" scale. If so, it's exactly what I've been dreaming of for a long time now! :brow:
Drop Martin an email and explain your budget constraint, maybe he could do you a deal, after all in the current economic climate I doubt he has orders coming out of his ears. Worth a go, he can only say no and he might say yes
Thanks for the tip. I just sent him an email, we'll see soon!
Martin Peterson's Sei basses are available with fanned frets for an extra £150 http://www.seibass.com/
Of course! Unfortunately their prices are out of my range at the moment. I'm looking for a simple Jazz, in the veins of the Dingwall Super J, but for a budget of 1000-1500 pounds.

SORTED! Where's a good place to get a custom body in the UK?
Larmer replied to xilddx's topic in Bass Guitars
I've got a similar question as well. I'm thinking of putting together a short scale jazz bass, and I would only need the body. I would use a 30" Moses Graphite neck and provide the hardware & electronics by myself. I've looked into Warmoth and it seems to be the easiest way to go, however before making any decisions I would prefer to look into other options as well. Anyone got any builder recommendations? Can be located anywhere within Europe. I would prefer websites/emailing rather than calling to another country. -
Aside from Dingwall and Novax, what are some other builders that offer the fanned fret option? I'm especially looking for manufacturers in Europe, to avoid the import taxes, etc. I know Shuker does, but I haven't got a quote yet. Cheers.
String spacing is from the centre of one string to the centre of the next at the bridge.... 16.5 seems a lil narrow.... Status normally 18.mm or 18.5mm on 5 stringers
18mm is the regular spacing, though they do offer 16.5mm as a custom option.
