Yeah, if in doubt, stay away.

    Si

I bought them, got better info and pics from the seller. They are dated ‘64 and came from a bass he had with some 70’s parts added too like the bridge which I am waiting for pics of too. I’ll let you know when they arrive if they are as he said 🤞

  2. Fender Jazz Bass in Fiesta Red.

The neck is from a genuine 1972 Jazz and is in excellent condition. Frets are spot on, no uneven wear and the rosewood board is lush. All block inlays are fully intact, the white binding is too. Truss rod is fine and works as it should.

The body is from roadworn Fender Jazz, it has nice checking to the nitro paint and plays and sounds killer.

Pick ups are Lindy Fralins with CTS pots, switch craft Jack and paper in oil capacitor.

    Weight is 9.3 lbs

Comes with a Fender Hard Case too

I honestly want to love a jazz bass, and this is a beauty, but it’s not for me. I have a similar deal/problem with Stingrays too!

No trades thanks and courier within the U.K. is included.

A good DI is a must to me. The ability to connect two 8 ohm cabs (without daisy chaining) via Speakons would be great. (I know you can get 1 to 2 adaptors but it’s another thing to lose!) There’s probably some physics reason that means most valve amps have only one output each for 4 and 8 ohms.

The ability to use the DI without a speaker load would be useful, but not a deal breaker.

PS: I’d look to come down from Edinburgh for a NE bass bash!

Yeah DI is a must I agree. The NE Bass Bash is a great day, about 60 P basses and a Ray last time 😂

It really is incredible that some instruments such as this are in pristine condition after 51 years.

Leo made these to be played and gigged regularly, not stuck in its case and pushed under the bed....

Yeah previous owner from early 80’s must’ve have used it much and been super precious. It’s not mark free by any means but crikey it’s super clean for a 50 year old bass. I have a ‘73 Sunburst too, it is not as clean as this 😂

  5. Now sold, thanks guys!!

Thanks to everyone for your input, enthusiasm and support on this!  I'll be starting work with the transformers, as they dictate size and weight constraints and of course performance!  The YI200 used a toroidal output transformer, but this had to be rated at over 300 watts to maintain 200w at 40Hz.  I've learnt a lot out transformers and will be switching to traditional EI designs for output, and keep toroid for mains to reduce weight.  It's still gonna be heavy but nowhere near SVT levels.

I made a 100W valve bass amp for the bassist in my old pub band, had volume to spare and solid as a rock, which was the inspiration for the YI-200, should have just started with that but I wanted more power 😁

Awesome that Martin, reckon it could be killer. Deffo a NE Bass Bash prototype trial run 🤞😉

    Hi,

Sadly my 69 jazz bass was in a car accident and the headstock got snapped clean off (luckily the occupants of the vehicle fared much better).  It got repaired by a guitar tech some years ago in Leeds and I believe epoxy was used to fix it but now the join is opening up.

So I'm looking for a luthier recommendation who would be able to sort.  It's a real players bass (as you can see from state of wear) and I'm keen to keep it playing/looking as authentic/seamless as possible. I'm based near Leeds but prepared to travel to get the right person to work on it.

    Thanks
