  1. Yes, I also bought the cheaper (then around £500) passive Starstream, wasn't really happy with it and returned it when I discovered I could get an Artist for £799 reduced from its original RRP of around £1,350!! Here's my take on the Starstreams: My active Artist is exquisite, at least as good as any other bass priced around £1350, and was therefore a massive bargain for me at £799; unfortunately, I can't say the same for the passive because quality-wise it falls well short of its original £500 RRP. BUT at £200 I wouldn't be hesitating now if I didn't have my Artist. FOOTNOTES: The Artist is upgraded in every key respect compared with the passive Starstream. A nice-looking white Artist with the single humbie pickup hung around on flea-bay for a while priced at a very reasonable £400 without selling. The Edinburgh-based seller PM'd me an invitation to make my best offer but I decided not to - only because white was my least-favourite colour.
  2. Thanks for that. I need to move something on and was considering putting my 2A active Artist up FS. Now is clearly not the right time for that. As you say, the passive is an absolute steal reduced from £500 to £199 and they obviously haven't been selling. Truth is that bass players are mostly a fairly conservative bunch and I'm definitely in the minority with my love for quirky stuff like the Starstream.
  3. I stand corrected - and not for the first time 🤣. I really do hope this wonderful bass finds a good, new home. Not mine unfortunately ☹️
  4. Tom Petty appears in at least one Traveling Wilburys video (The End Of The Line) laying down a wonderful thumping bass line on one - not sure which.
  5. Kate just bought and collected from me an Andy Rogers custom-built short-scale bass. She is a fairly new member but I am pleased to report that all went smoothly thanks to good comm's, enthusiasm and goodwill on both sides of the transaction. What could possibly go wrong? 🙂 Hope to see you at the S-W Bash Kate!
  6. I'm up for that too. Suggest we use Stevie's LFSys Monaco, for which I am now an unashamed, totally biased advocate 😊
  7. No you haven't! Here it is: Sunday, October 8th, 2023 - usual time and place So please put that date in your diaries NOW! Just started new event topic so no more posts on here please
  8. OK, so this is me starting a new topic for This year's Bash ☺️ The hall is booked from 10am to 4pm on Sunday, October 8th, 2023 so get that date in your diaries NOW! The Memorial Hall, Cheddon Fitzpaine, Rowford, TAUNTON, TA2 8JY https://www.cheddonfitzpainevillagehall.co.uk/ (The picture below shows the entrance to the hall driveway but the old lodge pictured is a private house)
  9. Default is 12 o'clock for bass & treble and contour all the way off then add contour as and when needed. BUT, the whole point about these amps is that you'd struggle to get bad sound out of them. My gig basses are Andy Rogers s-s 3-pickup passive custom builds with flats so that won't help you much I guess.
  10. I'll throw in a pair of sunglasses for free 🙂
  11. Just echoing all the positive comments about these. I love mine, especially the bass/treble/contour arrangement. GLWTS
  12. Just to let you all know that I have sent all your messages from both threads on the forum over to Sue, and she was very touched by them all. As she replied "These are such beautiful messages. Thank you xxxx" "Simon was a true gent. He loved the Bass Bash. Even last year when we were both caring for his dad I made a point that Simon had to go along to the Bass Bash. The Bass Bash was proper Soul food for Simon .- and he was never one to neglect a buffet. xx" Take care everyone Mrs Scrumpy
  13. Thanks for the heads up on the RIP Norm thread, I'll send all those over to Sue as well. Mrs Scrumpy.
  14. We are sending all your messages and condolences on to Sue, if however though, you would prefer to send a personal message please PM me, and as agreed with Sue, I can let you have her contact details.
  15. I've just sent Sue a photo of the Bash. Lovely picture of Norm smiling. Mrs Scrumpy.
  16. It grieves me to share the following sad PM received from Norm's wife this morning: Hello Scrumpy Mike. This is Sue, Norms wife. I am devestated to say that Norm passed away suddenly yesterday morning. 25/02/23 He loved the bass bash event. Would you be able to let people know of my husbands passing. Thank you so much. xx I've already replied as follows and asked Sue to confirm whether - and how - she would wish to receive any other individual messages from us. Hello Sue, this is deeply saddening news for me, as I know it will be for all the other SW Bass Bash regulars. Over the years we have become a real family within the wider Basschat community and we shall all miss him terribly. I shall of course spread the sad news on Norm's and your behalf. In the meantime, please accept my sincere condolences. On behalf of the Bashers, I wish you and yours the strength you need at this sad time. Perhaps someone with the necessary skills could set up a virtual condolences card on here that we can sign. Any alternative/better suggestions also welcome. Thanks, Mike
  17. Good choice! The nice thing about these is the they've got 19 easily-accessible accessible frets, which also makes the body look better proportioned than the Mustang IMHO. I got the Burgundy Mist with tort, which was the only option in the Deluxe range at the time. Thomann now seem to be offering the full range of colours and, much as I love mine, I would probably have gone for the black/tort too. I'd love to hear how you get on with the new pot as it's on my to-do list. Are you fitting it yourself?
  18. Just had the pleasure of dealing with Don, who bought my BF SC3 cab. He's a truly exemplary member of our Basschat community, deal with confidence.
  19. One big difference is that the Elwood has 22 frets with good access to all of them.
  20. Better than being a paying customer in either ☺️
