1. Well i haven't played the P so can't comment other than to quote the official specs. There is a huge CV thread on TB so I'm sure the answer is there. I do like the idea of the P having the vintage frets though. That's a plus in my book and the big reason I was going to buy Neils P ;-)
 2.
Classic Vibe Jazz and Precision necks are identical btw!
Really? Not according to the Squier website they aren't. I checked a while ago and the nut width is different.
 3. I cant see why a PJ cant nail the P tone 100%. As long as it has the neck pup in the correct position of course. After all, how many P basses sound the same anyway? I too love PJs (and BJ's ;-) but i do prefer a Jazz body and neck. And normally the neck pup is in the wrong position on these basses, although there are exceptions of course.
 4.
Why exactly? The slimmer neck? Thanks
Yeah, for me a slimmer neck and string spacing makes all the difference. Saying that, some people find them cramped and/or just prefer wider so its really down to preference.
 5. Another vote for the CV Jazz. Really nice looking basses. They also have vintage style frets which mean they are smaller than average and i find this helps get a nice fast, low action. The CV's also have a high mass (ie, sturdier) bridge that a lot of people, myself included, prefer. The VM series have Duncan Designed pickups. Never tried one so cant comment but i quite like the standard pups on my CV Jazz although i think a lot of people do change them. You really cant go wrong with any of these basses, i would say the biggest issue would be choosing a Jazz or a P. I really want a CV P but dont like the colour options. A P will get you closer to Adams tone but a Jazz will also do the job IME and is easier to play (again IME).
 6. There is also large thread on TB about the take over.
 7.
I thought they mostly missed the point.
So did i, thats why i just posted over there.
 8.
+1 The angle the photograph was taken at is off or the B & E strings are out of kilter!
Maybe im missing something but i dont think we are talking about the string just being out, i thought we were discussing the fact that its out by different amounts over each pup. If the pups are lined up precisely this wont happen but as shown on the Teal one, both are lined up at the bottom rather than centrally.
 9. To my eyes the B and A string look in on the Teal one but the other three are out. I guess at the end of the day its not so much the tone, but how much are we willing to pay for bad workmanship.
 10. This is how it should look. I know this is a DJ5 and the OP posted to the updated JO5 but still, a jazz is a jazz.
 11. wow, what an open minded thread. Why do people have to belittle others for liking something different?
 12.
Dave Bass had a DJ5 and the pups lined up great. AFAIK, the other Lakland Jazz type basses they have in stock all have a similar issue, whereas earlier Laklands did not. Possibly they havent spec'd the new Hanson pickups correctly?! The thing is, the new CV Squiers rarely have this problem, so why should this? It looks 'ok' in the picture, but in the flesh the G string is actually towards the bottom of the last pole piece on the bridge pup...off by about 4-5 mm.
Yep, no issues with that bass at all. And then it all went down hill. The DJ5 had Hansons in it, the bridge pup was slightly longer and both lined up perfectly. I even played a JO5 just before i got the DJ5 and that too was spot on. Its really weird isnt it. It seems like a lot of the mid/higher end basses are having this problem, yet the cheaper ones are fine. My Squier CV J is spot on, as is my HW-one Jazz. My old HW-1 Jazz was fine. Even the MIM 70s' classic i had a few months ago was spot on, yet all 3 of the MIA's were out. And now Laklands. To be honest i dont think it makes any difference to the tone. And i would happily live with it (now) if the bass was good in all other respects.
 13.
Oh boo-hoo. signed Angry of Aberdeen
Doesn't stop me spending way more than i earn though ;-)
 14. In your case i would do exactly the same. My problem was just finding a plain black one. If i was going for a tort or pattern then i think i would steer clear of the cheaper ones. Its great you can just pop round too them. Looking at finishes etc on line doesn't really give a good indication of how things will look in the flesh. Its funny but living in the centre of london you would think i would have everything on my door step but its not like that and quite frustrating.
 15. Sims are great but as you say, not the cheapest. I got them to make me a blank PG for my old DJ5. On top of the cost they charged, i also had the cost of sending my original one to them. I would use them again for a custom PG if i had to, but considering they wanted £45 + postage for a B/W/B MIA one i went to WD music and got one for £15. I really didnt see any big difference (or any IIR) between the DJ5 PG and the WD music MIA one.
 16. Have a look at WD music. They seem to have a lot of PG's and prices are pretty reasonable IMO.
 17. Although ive never had to fly with a bass its always worried me that i would get to the gate with my bass in a gig bag, intending to take it on board and told i would have to put it in the hold. It all sounds a bit hit or miss to me.
 18.
Funny...I met her at one of my shows. She likes bass players and speaks russian..
Yeah. i only dumped her when i found out "she" used to be called Ivan ;-)
 19.
gone..binned her.
...its my ex
 20.
She is so dumped.....
Nah mate, you have her, she cant even iron my gig shirt properly.
 21.
Did you want me to bring a bass down for you to try Dave? I dont mind...as long as she is in the house.
Well ill be out but im sure she will make you welcome.
 22.
Failing that, I can't see what else it could be..!!
Its probably because your using a picture of my girlfriend :-)
 23.
Thanks Dave, I have one at home which I think should fit. If not, will be in touch mate
No problem. I also have one that will take a standard sized one for double boxing if you need it. I guess taking it on board in a soft gig bag is an option but ive never flown with a bass so cant really advise.
 24. Dont forget ive got some shipping boxes if you need them Clarky (yeah, still tying to get rid of them).
 25.
Do you act and dress the part or just play the songs? The full monty. If it's just playing the songs it's a COVERS band NOT a tribute...
which could actually mean any old street clothes, depending on who the tribute is. I dont see many acts these days that make an effort to get dressed up. I guess that makes it easier for Tribute acts.
