1.
I've got a transcription, standard notation though. Is that any use ?
Oh yes please. I'm trying to learn to read whilst stuck indoors. And thanks to all the posters for the rest of the ideas too.
2. I have an Ashdown 5=15 mini rig. It's a 2 x 10 cab with a seperate amp. This amp will drive a second cab. Now, my question is can I buy 2 more 10 inch spearkers and put them in a home made cab and increase my volume? I really like the Ashdown, but finding a matching cab is difficult. I'm thinking 2 x 8 ohm, 100 watt speakers in paralell will provide me with the 4 ohms needed. but will they need a crossover? And will they remain at 100 watts output or as the impedance drops will the power increase. Or would finding a 4 ohm 12 or 15 inch speaker and installing that compliment the sound better? Finding a 4ohm 100 watt speaker is not proving particularly easy...
3. Well, she still won't come on BC. Can't think of a suitable name, she says. But she did get up and play 34 scale bass on a proper outdoor stage, up steps, all made of scafolding and tarpaulins, with a sound tent wayyyy behind the audience, and seperate off stage speaker stacks. At a rugby ground. They were very small speaker stacks, in special speaker tents. But seperate off stage speaker tents they were. They opened our local Ukulele festial. First act of the festival in the lunchtime graveyard slot, so nothing earth shattering. But I'm pleased. Thought maybe you folks would be too.
4. thanks Dad.
5. So, erm, anything on the Bass cleff is going to be on the top 5 frets? and the low e on the bass is written as -O-? as in the crude drawing below? ------------- ------------- ------------- ------------- ------------- -O-
6. Right, Spent out, feel stupid. I've got a Focurite Scarlet 2i2 kit. I cannot get a grip on Ableton Live Lite. Are there any tutorials that assume you haven't a f****ing clue. It remembers how it it was last set, and I've probably clicked a teeny tiny button. And shouting at it doesn't seem to help...
7. This is brilliant. Thank you all.
8. Sorry, I know it's probably been done to death, but which fret is eqivalent to middle C. AND What is meant by the bass is a transposing instrument, please? I want to learn to change dots to tab and to play from the dots eventually. So I could really do with knowing where the anchor is. Many thanks, The Lump
9. This board seems to be out in the desert and I'm obvoiusly asking wrong questions, but... Can anyone suggests buildng blocks towards 'Wont get fooled again' please. It's probably my stage in bass playing, but I can't get through the tab, nor realte the sections to the tune. So are there any songs that contain the building blocks, phrases, etc. that would build up the foundation please? Many thanks. (The) Biglump

Banjo Roll

In case anyone searches for the same thing, ever... This was quite helpful. /http://geargods.net/video/felix-martins-bassist-shows-you-how-to-play-bass-like-a-banjo-player/

Banjo Roll

As the title suggests, I want to squeeze in a Banjo Roll for few bars to liven up a pretty dull country song. Has anyone whos done this before got any tab, please?
12. Well folks, to bring you up to date on the 'Newbieshe' 1. No Wheelchair yet. (I can't be going discussing someone's private issues, other than saying things seem realatively stable at the moment). 2. TWO bases. To start with a B stock Fretless Uke bass. This got the fingers moving. Now added to by an Ibanez full length but really light. One song played on full scale so far as solo accompniment to the local ukes practice night. And I'll bore you with how. Uke orchestras are different and strange so having one loud bass and one muted bass tagging along is fine. (Especially considering the ad libs and elastic beat lengths we get when a hard chord comes, a GSOH, as they say, is essential). So, I managed to swap volumes, me down, she up for Bad Moon Rising without being spotted. It's one we just play really simply in C. The face was a picture when she thought she was keeing up with me AND the beat AND the Ukes. Anyway, after that, confidence is high, prior knowlege of being a drummer is being applied to bass playing and I think its going to go well.
13. Thank you all for the excellent assistance. The newbieshe is learning really quick and more importantly with less bad habbit blind alleys than If you'd not all helped out. Take a pat on the back. Just need to stop myself showboating and keep my fingers low too....
14. Expanding on the find a band part of the thread, can I reccomend the humble Ukukele scene for getting gigs and stage time? Half the people can't play, the other half are class musicians and it all seems to work. Each and every Uke band usually needs a bass player and they welcome anyone and everyone, to go by my experince. I play a full size bass for one local Uke band and dep for another. Maybe turn up to your local Uke band with a uke then talk bass? I'll often take my bass and sit at the back (if not up front) and play through headphones and use the session to sharpen up. To get as much stage time as I've had in the last 3 years Uke-gig-ing I'd have had to do about 25 years worth of open mic nights. Oh, and taking of hand issues, I saw these guys in a local pub last year. 15. Hi All, Any tips and hints for those with tiny hands, please. I've got massive hands, so working out how to teach someone with tiny hands is not natrual to me. Any drills, musclo skeletal warm ups, exersises, slides for scales, and whatever most welcome. We'll probably be on root fifths for most of the songs we do. it's 34 inch scale, moneys tight so it's staying 34 inch. Playing seated too. Thanks, Ade
16. I often use hadphones with a Roland Basscube. It being battery powered I can just about sit anywere and practice. I find the Amplivox a bit quiet with a passive Bass.
17. So, has Macca influeced me as a 50 year old newbie bassist born in the same ward as Lennon? Well, 8 days a week is a seriously good test for playing live. Sometimes I can even look up and smile... And yes, the Beatles as a whole are still a huge influence round here. (Liverpool and Wirral) Sure there was a period where they dipped in popularity, but every time the pendulum swings one way it swings the other, thy had to go 'out' until they could come back 'in'. I think we are lucky to have Blue and his US perpective. The UK would fit into a single state, teritory wise. The physical distance between The Mersey beat and Madchester would be microscopic by US standards. And thus the differences between the UK centres uninteligibley small. The US is sooooooooo big and everywhere soooooooo far away along roads that are sooooooooo similar that personalities take on much greater importance than here in the UK. I can, if I want go sit in the same seat in the same pub they drank in on Mathew Street today. I can go see people play tonight who knew Macca and the rest first hand. I'll probably be jamming with some this afternoon without knowing. Hell, I can even book the Quarrymen to play in my lounge if want to. I'm saying perspective depends on distance from the object being viewed.
18. Purchased a U bass. Arrived well packaged and as described. Am happy with a good deal.
19. Whereabouts in Scotshire are you?
20. I'd certainly like to come along. On the organisational side, as a noob, I think it would be best to look at how a bash works before I start to try and hold one. That said, I can potentially provide 3 seats and boot space for a multitude of basses on a merry ride from Wirral to wherever. Or two seats and a lot of gear if I bring the van.....
21. Oldham isn't that far from Wirral. So I'd be happy to travel. I sort of got stuck on the financial side of things for a Wirral Bassbash. Its easy to book a local studio for the day, but how are Bass Bashes usually financed?
22. Admiral, Thanks, for the links. Think I'd better keep out of places like those....
23. So, if one happened to be in NY in September anyway, where would one go to scratch the GAS itch. Sadly I'm already booked for flying...
24. Thank for the replies thus far. The gear is usually either a Rowland bass micro cube or a cheapo practice were amp. So I would definitely agree with gear shortcomings. So instead of 7th, what would work as passing notes in a basic run whilst peddling on the 7th and minors, please.
