1.
Whereabouts are you ? http://basschat.co.uk/topic/249004-bassmusic-tuition-in-birmingham-4-5-and-6-string-bass/
I'm down near Dover in Kent. You're based in Birmingham right? Shame we're not closer!
2.
A book on what - technical exercises, material or both? I just bought a 6 and went for it - Lol
Both, although '6 string bassics' covers a range of technical exercises, it's the only book I've managed to find suited to 6 string bass, against the overwhelming material for 4 string. I Just went for it too!
3.
No problem. You can also play anything you can play on a 4 string bass as well, anything higher than 5th fret on the G string can just be played on your C instead. One of the things I did when moving to 6 string was to experiment playing things an octave or 2 higher or lower than usual. Really helped to get a feel for what works well with the extended range.
Thanks... again! Great idea, simple, but effective, will definitely spend some time on this! Thanks.
4. Definitely a gap in the market for a book! 😉
5.
I have a lot of stuff, I was gonna do a book, but haven't had time. What specifically do you want ?
I'm very open minded, I think it will assist me to learn as varied a range as possible, so absolutely anything would help. I've got the '6 string basics' book, but there is not a lot of material in there. I would be happy to pay if you are willing to send anything, CD, DVD etc...?
6.
Bach Cello Suites!
Thank you, I'm not that great at stave reading, has anyone transcribed these to tab, or should I just get studying stave and crack on?!
7. Thanks Burg, I've had a look the through the list and tracked down some tablature from songster, so helpful, thank you!
8.
This wikipedia page has a list of notable musicians who use an extended range bass. Although the majority on the list don;t exclusively play 6 string. Might be a good starting point though. 9. Hi, I'm fairly new to 6 string bass and am finding it difficult to source decent materials for practicing. Any ideas?...
10. Quite right, the fun factor shouldnt be underestimated with these. Such rich bass from such a small unit!
11. I've only played a Kala, well built and lots of fun, but the piezo was well off centre so was not picking up the e string. Seems this may be a fairly common issue with them after a little Internet research. Sent back and now u-bass-less!
12. Sold a Flea Modulus 4 in pristine condition, never been able to get a neck and tone to match what that produced.
13. PJB amps have to be heard to be believed. Unbelievable sound from such small drivers. Just a bit too big for my needs. Glwts.
14. Nice bass, I've had one of these myself, they play surprisingly well, a lot of bass for the money! Glwts.
15. This custom six string bass was hand built in England 2013 and is in superb ‘as new’ condition, with no wear, marks, dents or damage anywhere. I bought this from BassDirect a few months ago and have been very pleased with it, and it has cemented my move from 4 to 6 strings. I am reluctantly selling to raise some funds (The photos with pure black background were taken by BassDirect). The bass has custom Ebony pickup covers and a stunning Bokote finish to the top, back and matching headstock. This bass has been recently set up with new Skjold taperwound strings. This a fantastic looking and sounding bass, I guarantee you will be impressed with the amount of bass you get for this money, from this custom British bass. List price is £3570, so you have a rare opportunity to grab a great bargain here! The link below has a YouTube clip near bottom of page of this bass in action. My wife and I have been selling with 100% feedback for years through eBay under username 62sarahb I have sold on a Flea Modulus, Fender Deluxe Jazz, Court A6, Vester and Warwick Thumb NT basses with excellent feedback. I am now looking to move this wonderful bass on.
16. This is a beautiful Bolt On 6 string Warwick Thumb bass in good condition. This is an original hand made in Germany 2001. This was during what many regard as Warwick’s golden era. This bass plays beautifully and has the distinctive Warwick growl. It is in great condition and has been well looked after, but does have a number of slight marks and scratches from the fair usage it’s accumulated. I've tried to capture some of them in the photo's, but they are minor. It's an active bass with 2 band EQ with a stacked bass/treble pot, pick up balance control and volume with push/pull to by-pass the active on board pre-amp deactivating the tone controls and making it effectively passive.
