  1. I'm now looking around my Music Room and... "Oh Gawd! He's right..." 🫣
  2. On the "Sterling by Music Man" range (often abbreviated to 'SBMM'), there's the 'Ray 2' passive Stingray and the active 'Ray 4' Stingray import models in the "Intro Series". These are the stripped back budget models like Squire Affinity, etc. (£300-400). Then there's the "SUB Series". Here, you have a bit better quality, options of 4/5 string and slightly nicer hardware. Think Squier Vintage Modified, but more expensive. (£450-) The main old Ray 34/35 standard models are now just called, "Stingray". These have the modern 3-band preamps, but are still Indonesian built. Further up the range you can buy these with exotic tops, or as a 'Vintage' 2-band model. Confused yet? (Think Mexican Fender Player II Series and above, from £1000-£1400.) Then you finally come to the 'real' Ernie Ball Music Man American range. Most Stingrays start at around £2800 for the 'Stingray Special' 18v model, depending on chosen finish and quantity of pickups etc, and the new "70's" model which is a downgraded version of the previous 2-band "Stingray Classic" for well over £3k. Finally, you come to the "Ball Family Reserve Models" with exotic wood tops, which retail from £4000 upwards. Any help at all? Thought not...
  3. That's your home, that is.
  4. Hey KWM, I know what you mean very well here. I have several Status basses and really nice ones at that. They rarely come out, but occasionally the right job comes in [like last night] where that agility, power, snap and howl is needed and desired. I've been playing these fantastic graphite instruments for 35 years, but nowadays the decent earnings come from a Live Tribute Show where a simple Jazz bass is the ideal tool. I always know my Status basses are there, and I've got guaranteed offers for a couple of them from other pro players whenever I eventually one day decide to sell them. (One in particular will only be wrenched from my cold, dead hands.) Sentimentality is a part of what we do. We sometimes, after all this manic trading and buying, find one instrument that just fits our hands, [backs], and ears. It's genuinely hard to let go of something that good and highly personal to you. I sympathise. Btw, did you sell that lovely Hybrid II MIJ Jazz in the end? HB.
  5. I can source a box from the local music shop by all means, yes. I can post, but it's at your own risk. Just about to go out and get some nice Ernie Ball strings to put on it. The OEM strings are horrible!
  6. Lovely bass and a total bargain these days! Yes, I think black hardware would suit it very well. The picture they did for you was very funny! 🤣
  7. I guess I have to be relatively tidy, as I'm working in a very small space. (There's a Skoda Superb Estate outside with a full boot, too!)
  8. **THIS BASS IS NOW SOLD** For Sale: Burns Marquee Long Scale (34") Bass *Brand New Out Of The Box*!! This instrument is from the same old client of mine as the red MIM Jazz I sold last week. This one didn't even make it into a Gig Bag until I put it into one after taking it out of the original packing box. (Apologies for the Polystyrene dust!) The Marquee has a variety of available sounds via the three Burns "TriSonic" chromed pickups. Controls are Volume/Volume/Tone with a five-way Blade Switch, giving it a sort of 'mudbucker' sound, a Gibson EB3 sort of sound, a Precision-esque sound, a Jazz-ish sound, and a back pickup sound. There's also a 'Vintage' control via pulling the Tone Control upwards, much like a modern Rickenbacker has. The Bass is totally unmarked and as you'll see from the pictures, still has the labels hanging from the tuning pegs and the polythene cover is still on the Scatch Guard. The transparent red burst finish is very nice too. Price is £375. Trades considered, buyer to collect from DE7, or will happily meet half way, max distance 100 miles (up to 200 miles in total to you from DE7.)
  9. Beautiful finish @Silky999. That's going to be a really nice bass...
  10. See what you think to this. I really liked it. Surprising control over the repeated harmonics at the beginning, too.
  11. Looking good for 71, Daryl! 🙄 I would also say it's the audience. When you have an audience, large or small, who are all up and dancing all night, you know you've cracked it. Their enthusiasm bleeds onto the band, which makes us play better and punchier.
  12. *THIS BASS IS NOW SOLD* Thanks for your interest. For Sale / Trade 2019 Fender Flea Signature Road Worn Jazz in faded Shell Pink. You already know how good these are - they have the same Pure Vintage 64 Pickups as the American Vintage & the American Original series Jazzes. This one has a couple of additions from a previous owner - a Leo Quan BadAss II Bridge and a micro switch for Parallel/Series switching. Series mode gives it more of a P-alike shove. It's a great sounding bass and I'll throw in one of the new Fender triangular padded Gig Bags. Oh, and it has brand new genuine Fender Road Worn Strap Buttons. The previous metallic red locking ones really had to go! Obviously this is a Road Worn bass, so a bunch of Mexicans at the Ensenada plant have more than likely kicked the body around a shale carpark during their lunch break, but condition is exactly as you'd expect - rather like a nicely worn in '61 Jazz, which is what it's apparently trying to be. No flaky bits of faded Shell Pink have fallen off while it's been in my tenure, anyway. Potential buyers are welcome to come and try the bass whether they end up buying it or not. There's always Tea/Coffee and maybe biscuits. Price is £900. Interesting trades considered. Buyer to collect, or I will happily meet up half way at a distance of up to 100 miles (200 miles total distance!) from DE7. Thank you for your attention.

  13. Welcome to God's clean Earth No, seriously I can see your thinking. I love the sound of flats for recording, but at the end of the day, 90% of my time is playing live and playing live with flats is like having all your sound sucked into a deep sonic chasm. It's really down to how you comfortably hear your sound. We did a little duo showreel at the weekend and I always think I play too bright, but out front it sounds perfect and audible. I often compare it to when I play in the live tribute show against a digital piano, two Epiphone Acoustics, a Fender Strat and a drum kit, complete with up to four of them singing! It doesn't matter how lovely my sound is. It's always going to get buried under that lot from my perspective, but it always sounds great out front, which is what matters at the end of the day.
  14. I moved in 2015 from Genz Benz to TC Electronic with an RH750 in a 2x10 enclosure and a pair of the oblong tubular 12" cabs. I have to say, it's never put a foot wrong and it's been toured all over Europe. It has an exceptionally clean sound and it continues to be my favorite amp ten years later. Nowadays I mainly use one of the MarkBass tilting 2x10 combos, due to the much lighter weight, but I have to admit the sound isn't a patch on the TC.
  15. I had one of the 'Midnight Wine' MIM fives in the late 2000s. It was a great bass. B string sounded great. Never had any worries over it, anyway. Might I ask, what kind of music are you playing?
  16. Congrats! Lovely looking Jazz. Your 'one of each' photo is great too! Can't have too many Jazzes
  17. Lovely looking bass. I was hanging my nose over the LPB one that was for sale on here for ages. Congrats
  18. I know what you mean. I have encountered a lot of players who play 18 billion notes, hoping that one might fit.
  19. Ah, thanks - I thought that was what it might be. I gave up watching broadcast TV in 2012, so popular culture generally passes me by!
  20. There you go All sorted. I periodically do the same. I have to make sure that the basses I have are all either earning money, or actually appreciating in value, otherwise they need to go out the door to be exchanged for pictures of the Queen. This plan usually works, although I recently got a '95 Stingray and having had some work done on it, it's rapidly become a firm favorite. My beautiful Am.Perf.Mustang is up for sale at the moment, too. It only did half a live tribute show, so it's a case of "Door"!
  21. I just listened to that track on headphones. The bass sound is actually very good and defined. The problem, as you say, is that it does get buried to an extent by that awful distorted rhythm guitar. This is why I like playing in trios. More space to play with.
  22. Yes, the TRBX basses are usually consistent. Much better than a Harley Benton, anyway.
